As reported from RedmondPie, it was previously thought that an untethered option wouldn’t be available on iOS 4.2, as Apple would of patched things up by then, but a recent tweet by iPhone Dev-Team member Musclenerd suggests otherwise.

”Think we’ve figured out a way to extend PwnageTool + limera1n + @comex hacks to untethered JBs for all future A4 firmwares :) ”

In simpler terms, it is great news for those of you who are yet to jailbreak. It means that even if Apple come up with a solution to block the likes of GreenPois0n and Limera1n on iOS 4.2, users can still use the upcoming PwnageTool jailbreak to remain untethered on iOS 4.2.

As for release, it is still planned for Sunday unless things change dramatically. For those that are still asking for an unlock method on iOS 4.1, once you jailbreak with PwnageTool you can then unlock using ultrasn0w.

Just like the Windows version, Limera1n for Mac supports a collection of iOS 4.1 devices. These include the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G / 3G and also the Apple iPad.

The tutorial comes to you courtesy of RedmondPie, who states that the process is actually the same as one would follow for installing onto Windows.

As reported from Redmond Pie, iPhone Dev-Team member Musclenerd has confirmed that a new version of Pwnage Tool will be available this Sunday for iOS 4.1 devices as well as the 2G Apple TV.

This jailbreak method is different to Geohot’s Limera1n and the GreenPois0n jailbreak by Chronic Dev-Team, as Pwnage Tool will allow you to jailbreak whilst keeping your iPhone baseband, which is crucial if you want to unlock it using ultrasn0w. This may sound confusing to the average iPhone user, but in simpler terms, download Pwnage Tool this Sunday if you want to unlock it afterwards.

We don’t have an exact release time for Pwnage Tool this Sunday, but we’ll be sure to let you know nearer the time. Let us know your thoughts on this, particularly from those who are yet to jailbreak on iOS 4.1.

If you head over to the Twitter account of Chronic Dev-Team member p0sixninja, you will see this tweet that confirms hacktivation. For those of you who are unaware, hacktivation is the process that bypasses Apple’s official procedure of activating before you can use it. Once a device is hacktivated, it will then allow you to use it without an official SIM card.

This little trick will come in very handy with the release of GreenPois0n, as previous methods were often a lot of hassle when using tools such as Spirit and JailbreakMe.

The only disappointing thing is that the tool is still not out, despite the members of the jailbreaking community suggesting it would be out in ‘days’.
