AT&T is slowly expanding their U-Verse service to more parts of the country, and gives consumers a nice choice when deciding who to use for their broadband and IPTV provider. Today we have an article for you comparing Comcast vs AT&T U-Verse with analysis on video.

The AT&T U-Verse service provides customers with internet, phone and TV which is sent down a fiber connection. It is this connection which will provide customers with a faster more stable service. You also get a PVR for your TV viewing at no extra cost. Below you can see a video by 2alivenews which is comparing the AT&T service to what’s on offer at Comcast.

The news channel uses a service from Comcast which works out pretty expensive if you need broadband and lots of TV channels. They were also the only company offering all the services in one package. The news channel currently pay around $140 per month for their package, but unfortunately their internet speed is very slow.

They experience frequent outages and just normal internet surfing is a slow process; with even chatting to friends on Facebook can be a problem. They have tried to remedy the problems by contacting Comcast but nothing the company suggests makes any difference.

The video then cuts to one of the 2alive teams houses where they just had the AT&T U-Verse service installed. Not only are they getting quicker broadband, but also a much better TV signal and phone call quality. AT&T also offers a variety of bundle deals to save the consumer more money.

Have a watch of the video and tell us what you think of AT&T U-Verse and Comcast.

We recently gave you the news that Netflix had signed a new contract with Miramax to give users access to the company’s catalog of movies. Now recent studies show the US is hooked on Netflix, as the service accounts for almost 30% of internet traffic.

Eric Mack of Cnet is reporting that Netflix only accounted for twenty percent of downstream traffic during peak periods seven months ago. Currently the company has a 28% subscriber coverage in the US, so there is room for much more growth.

Most of the Netflix usage comes from games consoles such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii making up around two-thirds of all downstream traffic. Meanwhile PCs account for less than 20% of Netflix usage.

In off peak periods Netflix still manages to take up around a quarter of total US internet traffic. The second largest internet usage was with Bit Torrent with 17%. Upstream usage is a different matter with Netflix only accounting for 3.5%.

The service will continue to grow as more people turn to downloading movies instead of going to the rental store, which is what Blockbuster has recently found out. The service is also arriving on more platforms as well; following the recent news of some Android handsets can now receive the service.

Do you use Netflix?

A few days ago we announced that the Netflix streaming service had become available for select Android handsets, including the HTC Incredible and the EVO 4G. Now we have some more exciting news, as we’ve just heard that both Netflix and Miramax have recently signed a multi-year agreement.

As Vlad Savov over on the engadget.com website recently noted, the agreement enables Netflix to stream movies from Miramax’s extensive library. As from June, movies such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, The English Patient and hundreds more will be added to Netflix’s Watch Instantly catalog on a rotating basis.

This will in fact be the very first time that Miramax movies have been available via a digital subscription service. The Netflix / Miramax agreement was last rumored back in March, with reports suggesting a $100 million price tag and a five-year term as the likely parameters to close the deal.

All the movies available will be able to be watched on multiple platforms, including mobile phones, tablets, computers and TV. The new partnership means that Netflix will gain a variety of movies that collectively have a total of 284 Academy Award nominations across 83 films, with a total of 68 wins.

Other Miramax films on their way include Bad Santa, Shakespeare in Love, Chasing Amy, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Piano and Cold Mountain. Are you an existing Netflix customer?

While many new flat screen TVs recently going down the 3D route, companies are also adding features which allow users to make use of the Internet direct from the TV. This is making connected smart TVs the future for Samsung, LG, Intel and more manufacturers.

Charis Palmer from Business Spectator is reporting that 22 out of the last 25 TVs released by Samsung and LG fell into the smart TV sector. Analysts from Gartner have said that current demand for smart TVs is “a collection of technologies in search of consumer demand”.

Manufactures of chips and other components that have an interest in desktop PCs, will be hoping the new market will fill a gap created with the loss of sales to mobile devices.

Intel is one manufacturer whose fortunes could be helped following its recent quarterly results, and some people voicing their concerns for the future of the company. Even though Intel managed to raise profits by 29%, some are worried how they will compete with the likes of ARM, Nvidia and Qualcomm.

The company does have a deal with Google TV which is now available in Sony’s internet TVs and set top boxes. But other manufacturers including Samsung, refused to use Intel chips to offer Google TV. As more consumers get round to their next upgrade TV wise, connected sets are likely to feature when deciding which product to choose.

Do you already have a smart TV?
