In our latest guide for PR readers we’ve tracked down a couple of solutions to help those looking for a Dooors app walkthrough, and over the last few weeks we’ve seen this games popularity increase dramatically on iPhone and Android.

You’ll find a few “room escape” games on a number of platforms, which not only include mobile platforms but also handhelds like the PS Vita. The main purpose of the Dooors app for iPhone and Android can be seen in the walkthrough videos we’ve embedded below this article, although in simple terms you need to figure out how to break out of a room and this can be done by solving the mysteries.

It seems that some people find no need for a Dooors app walkthrough, and state the game is really simple to solve, but there are other Android and iPhone users that cannot work out certain rooms. There are currently 35 stages that you need to pass, and we’ve got some videos below to help you get past any you are stuck on. You can expect future updates to add new stages, which happened with v2.0 last month although we’ll be ready to add more Dooors app cheats to this page for those that need them, when more levels are added.

Pick either of the videos below for a visual look at how to complete all levels in the Dooors app, also let us know what you think of the game in the comments. Do you think it’s right to cheat, or should people figure it out on their own?

Over the last year we’ve seen a number of cell phones receive mind-blowing hardware, which leave some users wondering why they need this extra horsepower and if they’d ever really use it? With the new iPhone 5 expected to receive a release date some point this year, and normally a little behind on power, we wonder how Apple will create a unique offering and would we really need more power?

Creating an iPhone 5 for the developer to take advantage of extra power – we’ve spoken to a number of game and app developers that explain in simple terms why “more is always good“. They also point out that the two main things are “processing power and memory” when it comes to creating high detail in games and apps, and any extra power will always be “taken advantage of“, so could there really be a thing of too much power?

The right price and power balance – better parts always result in a higher price, although iPhone’s are known to cost more than many rivals and sometimes late to market with specs, but it’s fair to say Apple like to innovate with the way their package is put together. I personally know how good the iPhone has been for five generations, but this also means I can see the flaws very clearly as well, which include the signal issues on iPhone 4 and battery life problems seen on the 4S model (this did not affect everyone).

What does Apple need to bring to the table on the new iPhone 5? First up would be a better name than with the “New iPad“, would you really want a “New iPhone” name? Then if the developers can really take advantage of any extra power, it would be interesting to see what would be possible with mobile gaming and other apps with as much “bang for buck“. The display is one of the most important features on any mobile device thanks to it being the thing we look at the most, so it would certainly be a good idea to bring an edge-to-edge display with other enhancements for a bigger screen on a smaller form factor.

The upcoming iOS 6 and a new more powerful iPhone 5 could bring enhancements with iCloud, then we could have new modes of gameplay within apps that we can’t yet imagine. There has been a taste of what’s possible with playing a game on one iOS device and then picking up on another, but imagine a future where developers innovate with iCloud to bring mind-blowing features in both games and other apps?

Some phone users would wonder with such a small iPhone screen what is the point of enhancing the graphics and power more? We’d point to tasks needing much more power, which include streaming higher graphic games via Airplay to an Apple TV, or other devices for lag free gaming on the big screen while the iPhone becomes the controller.

Great graphics on our big screens via the iPhone as the console – We’d love to see some more innovation for accessories that add buttons to the iPhone, which then make it a better controller for when streaming to a big screen display. It’s well known that some traditional gamers cannot get along with touch screen games, and like to have dedicated controls, so while the iPhone 5 would be no PS Vita it could be enhanced with better graphics and a dedicated control accessory designed in partnership with Apple.

What could you see in the future for a new iPhone 5 with more power? This might be ideal for devs, but do you really care? The image above this article is the same one we reported from Ciccarese Design when we posted some concepts a few weeks ago.

Recent iPhone 5 news and rumors – We’ve heard an increasing amount of Apple iPhone rumors since the start of 2012, which is the same this time every year, but with so many rumors it’s hard to always see what leaks could be solid although some are obviously fake. In January we heard about the possibilities of a 3D interface for the new iPhone 5, not a feature I’d personally want, and how LTE/4G could help shipments this year, which is certainly going to happen now the new iPad has that feature. We’ve heard continuous reports of a bigger iPhone display, and some Apple patents point to reshaped batteries at some point in the future, which juice is something needed with more features being added each year although fuel cells might be the answer one day.

We’ve been using the new wireless charger for Apple’s wireless mouse for a while now, and it has made a massive difference to always being charged. The rumors about wireless charging for a new iPhone would be welcomed as a good step forward for convenience. Flash and NFC are also rumored features that have received mixed reactions, and one warning to those looking out for 6th generation iPhone news – watch out for the fake text messages.

Last week along with the announcement of the new iPad, Apple revealed the availability of the latest operating system, iOS 5.1. Despite the recent update it seems some iPhone users have been hit with the dreaded Daylight Savings bug again in 2012.

A few hours ago in the US the clocks moved forward at 1:59 am to 3:00 am, and it seems that again some users have had issues with their iPhones. This problem rears its head every time there is a change with the clocks, and it also affects users in Europe as well, with residents in the UK due to move to British Summer Time later this month.

Now a number of readers have contacted Tuaw and reported that their iPhones went back an hour instead of leaping forward, which means the automatic adjustment of the time zone, went wrong again. One iPhone owner in Arizona that is an area that doesn’t really observe DST saw his device gain an hour.

To get around the problem many owners set a back up alarm just in case, and restarting the device can normally rectify the problem, or by turning the automatic time zone setting on and off. There is also the chance that many users that experienced the problem may still be running older versions of the iOS software.

This is an issue that has been affecting the handset for years now, and while many users have no trouble at all, it can be frustrating for the iPhone users that do have problems with the clocks changing each year. Did your iPhone re-adjust the time correctly?

Pretty much every iPhone model and baseband variant out there can now jailbroken and unlocked, however whilst carrying out a little research the other day we realised that the iPhone 3GS running baseband 5.16.05 was one exception – but there is a way around this!

People who have jailbroken and unlocked iPhone models in the past have probably come across redsn0w and ultrasn0w, well the good news is that these are the tools you need to carry out the jailbreak and unlock, but for some reason only a certain version of redsn0w worked for us while we tested out this method, the rest was pretty easy.

Before carrying out this method we connected the iPhone 3GS to the computer, updated it to iOS 5.0.1 and once that was installed we ran a factory reset to give the iPhone ‘a fresh start’, we’re not saying this is necessary, but this method worked for us.

Note: we carried out the following method using Windows not Mac OS X, also we can’t be held responsible if anything goes wrong, you are always taking a risk when jailbreaking a device, so don’t do it unless you are sure! Also some say that if your 3GS was built after the 45th week in 2009 you could brick your iPhone – so beware!

Now that your iPhone 3GS is running iOS 5.0.1 you should turn it off. Now download RedSn0w 0.9.10b4 via this link (Mac link here). Once downloaded extract the files and you should see a redsn0w.exe file, right click this and then select ‘Run as Administrator’ – redsn0w should now be open.

Click the ‘Jailbreak’ button, ensure your iPhone 3GS is off and plug it into your PC via the USB cable then click next, you may see a warning about your iDevice’s serial number, don’t ignore this and only continue if your iPhone doesn’t fall into the blacklisted serial numbers (you may have to briefly turn on your iPhone to check the serial number). redsn0w will now ask you to enter DFU mode, follow the on-screen instructions and then redsn0w will carry out the jailbreak. A few seconds later you should see some jailbreak options, ensure that ‘Install Cydia’ and ‘Install iPad baseband’ are both ticked, click next and then you will have to accept a warning to continue, the process will then finish and you will see your iPhone’s display showing the latter stages of the jailbreak – wait for this to finish and your iPhone should start-up running jailbroken iOS 5.0.1.

You now need to run a few checks, firstly swipe across to see if Cydia is installed, secondly go into Settings, General, About and scroll down to ‘Modem Firmware’ – here you should now be running baseband 6.15.00 – this means you have successfully installed the iPad baseband on your 3GS. Note: Some say that this baseband affects WiFi and GPS connectivity, but it worked just fine for us.

Finally load up Cydia, search for ultrasn0w, run it, reboot your iPhone and voila – you’re done. There are other methods out there which may work, but this is the only method which worked for us after 4 hours of trying different mehods. We didn’t have to install custom IPSW images or anything like that, just update to iOS 5.0.1, run a factory reset, jailbreak with redSnow 0.9.10b4 ensuring that you tick the iPad baseband (all other redsn0w versions failed for us) and then open up Cydia and run ultrasn0w – it’s simple when you know how.

In a recent article we brought you, we revealed that a large majority of iPhone users in the UK have a cracked screen on their device but continue to use it regardless. The significant percentage proves just how fragile these smartphones are, but hoping to rectify this problem is Nissan who have launched the Scratch Shield, an iPhone case with healing capabilities.

The motor vehicle manufacturer’s Scratch Shield paint technology is thought to be the world’s first self-healing paint which allows fine scratches to mend themselves. It is also the same paint that they use on a number of their vehicles all over the world. The case itself is designed to be more tighter-fitting, robust and rigid than any other, is made from ABS plastic and will fit the iPhone 4 or 4S.

The way the self-healing technology works is when the coating is damaged, it is able to fill the gap created and change back to how it was through a chemical reaction in the structure. This process can take up to a week depending on the severity of the blemish, with lesser damages taking as little as an hour to heal.

Although the product is still in its beta stage, we can expect the case to release as soon as this year if Nissan feel they are satisfied with the results. Europe seems to be the main market aim for now, although NTT DoCoMo, the Japan based carrier is contemplating the Scratch Shield technology for use on mobile phones and have the license to do so. As Expert Reviews explains, its use on these devices offer other benefits such as a better grip and an attractive gloss like finish as well as being more scratch resilient anyway.

What do you think of this Scratch Shield paint technology? Would you consider getting this case to protect your iPhone?

Since Apple released iOS 5 late last year the software has experienced some teething troubles with some users complaining of worsening battery life on their devices. Now it seems that iOS 5 features a bug that allows photos to be viewed on a locked device.

A clever tech consultant from Canada, Ade Barkah, has found an issue that allows photos to be seen via the lockscreen camera button on an iPhone running iOS 5. According to Cnet this happens even if the handset is locked via a pass code. Apple added an easily accessible button with the latest software so users wouldn’t miss those special shots.

To try it on your own device just double click the home button to access the camera, but then if you do try and access the photo gallery you get the message that tells you to unlock your handset to view photos and videos.

But if you go into the Phone’s settings and change the date to in the past, and try to access the photo gallery again you will be able to see all the photos taken since that date. Barkah said in his blog that if your iPhone clock goes back, “all images with time stamps newer than your iPhone’s clock will be viewable from your locked phone”.

You may be wondering why the iPhone clock would ever roll back as most users have the date and time automatically set. But if you travel across time zones the date could be accidentally set incorrectly, and Barkah wrote about the problem while traveling between Canada and Argentina by road.

There is always the chance an issue could reset the iPhone clock to epoch time, or if the device is ever synced from an external source like the cell phone carrier. Currently Apple hasn’t responded to the issue.

Just like gaming fans who mostly favor the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, consumers are mainly split into two groups with regards to smartphones. You have on one side people that are often unfairly called Apple fan boys, and those who favor the Android platform. There is obviously the Windows Phone platform that is growing in popularity, and the much maligned BlackBerry and Nokia Symbian platforms. Over the last few weeks the Android and iOS market share continues to surge ahead over the competition.

Consumers were certainly busy over the holiday season, and a report here is saying that according to analytics company Flurry both platforms saw a record level of activations during the period. Together iOS and Android saw a total of 6.8 million devices activated on Christmas day alone. This accounts for a 353 percent jump compared to the rest of the month, which averaged 1.5 million daily activations per day during the first twenty days of December.

When you look at Christmas day in 2010 it is a big leap up from the 2.8 million activations that were seen then, which was a new record at the time. Unfortunately the figures are not broken down into how much activation there was for each of the platforms. Recently Andy Rubin of Google had claimed that Android was enjoying over 700,000 activations each day, which could mean an equal split between Android and iOS for December.

Application downloads also saw a big jump on Christmas Day as owners started using their new devices, and saw a jump of 125 percent compared to the rest of the month. A total of 242 million applications were downloaded on both platforms, and is expected to reach a billion apps being downloaded between Christmas and the New Year.

Did you get a new Android or iOS device for Christmas?

With every new iPhone release consumers get faster internal hardware and a bunch of new features at their disposal, whilst this is great news for the consumer it is bad news for the guys whose task it is to ensure that the battery lasts plenty of hours – so what’s going to happen with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6?

The easy solution would be to just make the next-gen iPhone thicker than previous models and give it a larger battery than ever before – but that’s not Apple’s way. Instead we have come to expect each Apple device to be more slender than the ever-before, or at least just as skinny as last years model, this is despite just how much more advanced the new product is. So what’s Apple’s solution going to be for the distant iPhone 6, and the not-so distant iPhone 5?

Well the good news is that advances in microprocessor technology ensures that new high-performance cores will consume less power than you would have ever deemed possible, but that’s not all! If you head over to IBTimes there is some interesting information regarding a recent Apple patent application. To summarize it looks like bringing fuel cell systems to future products could be the answer – here’s an extract from the patent application:

“Fuel cells and associated fuels can potentially achieve high volumetric and gravimetric energy densities, which can potentially enable continued operation of portable electronic devices for days or even weeks without refuelling,” Apple said in a patent application.

As you can see the sentence is very well-worded, but no-matter how you look at it it’s hard to ignore the fact that Apple seem to believe that fuel cell technology could bring days or weeks of usage from a single charge – this would undoubtedly change the smartphone, tablet and laptop market forever.

A fuel cell works by sandwiching an electrolyte between two electrodes, when hydrogen passes over one of these electrodes and oxygen passed over the other electricity is produced – heat and water (often vapour) are the only emissions. Excuse our ignorance but would this mean that our pocket is likely to get warm and wet? (If you are an expert in regards to fuel cell technology please answer this in the comments section towards the bottom of this page).

Fuel cell technology certainly sounds promising, but we aren’t yet sure whether this is feasible for a smartphone launch in 2012, perhaps 2013 is more likely as this will give Apple plenty of time to ensure that this means of powering a smartphone will actually work in the real-world.

Do you think that fuel cell technology will come to smartphones within the next year?
