Those of our readers that decided a traditional laptop computer was still needed after buying the new iPad 3 might want a case to protect both devices, and Thule has offered this possibility in their new rugged case, which protects both an iPad and 13 inch MacBook Pro.

Titled the “13-inch MacBook Pro + iPad Attaché” and with a clamshell design, so you can use the MacBook Pro while it’s still inside the Thule case. We’ve seen the brand add a few models to its laptop protection line in the past, and Thule has become known for good protection thanks to their experience in cargo carriers and automobile bike racks.

Some of the main selling points include a horizontal elastic band to keep everything in place within the case, a design for all-weather use, a wider base for holding bigger power adapters, and excellent protection for your iPad within compressible foam padding and nylex lining.

Most of your portable gear should fit inside this case, which includes room for multiple power adapters, an iPhone, iPad, and of course the laptop. While many Apple fans are looking for cases that are water and impact resistant, sadly the design that Thule offer is not for everyone, although we find the $79.99 price pretty reasonable.

Have you gone tablet only already? You can see all the main features and a collection of photos on the official product page here, although we’d love to know your thoughts on owning both an iPad and MacBook Pro? In our opinion both are still needed although it’s hoped we, and other users, can make the full jump to tablet only computing within a couple of years. We also included a video of another case/sleeve by Thule, which should give you an idea on the quality this brand offers.

Whenever a new game trailer shows its face, like the GTA 5 trailer, you can almost certainly expect fans to look for Easter eggs hidden to create hype about a launch, and the same can be said for the tech industry as well. One of the biggest products launching within the next month is the iPad 3, and the invitations send out by Apple give a lot more away than some people might think.

One big change for current and future Apple devices – You can see a close up on the iPad 3 event invitation above and as you can see there is no home button, which would be a massive change for any new Apple device and the lack of this button could hint towards a change for iPhone 5 as well. We’d like to point out that the iPad could’ve been in landscape mode but there are theories that contradict this, although Apple love to send fans in all directions to throw rumors off any sent of reality, which could include the invitation spending time in Photoshop to alter how the final 3rd generation iPad would look.

If we imagine that Apple hasn’t altered the image in anyway to mislead us, then it could be seen that there really is no home button. We’d expect that the iPad in the invitation is really in portrait mode considering the landscape mode cuts off 6 drops in the background, and also app icons are too close to each other for landscape mode.

There has also been so much speculation over the icons in the image, which have been thoroughly detailed by this blog and what they see as the real reason for these icons in the iPad 3 event invitations. Have a read and let us know if you agree with them, or are they looking into this way too much and is it likely that the icons represent the keynote itself just as Apple normally do with past invites

The most popular iPad 3 rumors include Siri, 4G LTE, a faster processor, and retina display. The message in the image explains that we should be able to “see” and “touch” something, and this has led some people to believing there could be an Apple TV 3 at the event.

How would you feel if the iPhone 5 had no home button? If you’d like to share what other Easter eggs you believe are in the photo then please do so below, although we’d stand by the obvious that the iPad 3 will have no home button and would be the start of other devices, like the iPhone 5, having no home button as well. Remember that the lack of a home button also offers more space for a bigger display on a device of the same size.

Apple doesn’t have the backing of every news reporter and this cannot be more evident than seen in an article by the Guardian, which can be read here and focuses on Apple’s overwhelming dominance. Another article by Geek has looked at the different ways Apple could give fans “one more thing“, which includes no home button as we suggested but also 3D gestures, Aperture, Siri, iCloud gaming and more.

You can see an image below that Jeremy Schwartz created showing how the iPad 3 has to have no home button, or at least what Apple want us to believe thanks to the invitations, and would obviously become a standard for Apple devices if they start with the next iPad.

Facebook didn’t invent social networking but they took that principle and did it their way, which created something better and more useful for the end user. This process happens continually in the tech world and Facebook has been used as a platform for many other innovative products and services, which is seen with games like Farmville that made Zynga a lot of money in the process.

Software can take a product and bring new life to it by expanding what is possible on computers and tablet PCs, and this is just what OnLive is aiming for with their new OnLive Desktop software. We loved what OnLive did with Cloud Gaming although some Internet connections produce lag that hurts the experience, and until hardcore gamers see lag free gaming it will not attract them wholeheartedly. You only need to play racing games and fighters like Street Fighter to see when quick reactions are needed; OnLive fails to compete with the home games console.

Doing things on an iPad that can only be done on the office desktop – The OnLive Desktop app is available for iPad and Android tablets, which sees the brand head in a new direction by providing instant access to Microsoft Office applications, an amazing desktop experience, and finally Flash web browsing on the iPad.

How much of a difference could OnLive Desktop make to your life? We’ve included a video below that details the main features of OnLive’s new app, but we’d love to find out your thoughts on their new service and if you think it’s something that could improve your tablet experience? OnLive state that the Desktop app comes with “PC Microsoft Office” and “2GB cloud storage” for free, and that the software will make its way to Mac, PC and TV’s soon.

Initial reactions to OnLive Desktop have been varied and features included in the package are in the spotlight, with not everyone feeling the love. Some people don’t like the idea of being “restricted to use Office” and want to see alternatives for something they’d buy into.

Would you pay for the benefits offered in OnLive Desktop Plus? These start from $4.99 a month and give you a “Gigabit-accelerated full Flash browser“, improved access to “OnLive Desktop Standard“, and cloud storage with “Gigabit-speed“. That service plan is available right now via this page on OnLive, although there will be other plans coming called “OnLive Desktop Pro“, “OnLive Enterprise“, and “OnLive collaborative services“. The expected features for these plans are found in the above link and we’d love to hear your thoughts on these?

Have you made the jump to be tablet only, and what apps made this possible for you? It’s true that OnLive are making it easier to drop your laptop in favor of a tablet, but this service has a long way to go before it proves the iPad can replace laptops. Our iPad and Android tablet’s used in the PR office are certainly easier for many tasks done on a MacBook before, but there are plenty of jobs still done on traditional computers rather than a tablet and it will be some time before an iPad or Android tablet could fill the boots of our computers.

In Summary: Mobile workers are always looking for better solutions to help them travel a little lighter, and a browser supporting Flash paired with Office support takes them one step closer to leaving the notebook in the office although we have a way to go yet. Checkout the video below and share a comment. There are a few reasons why OnLive Desktop is more of a deal-breaker for potential iPad 3 buyers, and fast Flash web browsing is one of them if this is something you still want on an iPad, although it’s worth mentioning that not everyone wants this and there are other solutions.

It’s widely believed that the iPad 3 could be releasing in only a few weeks as stock seemingly runs low of the current model, and price reductions are also seen. Now there are reports that Apple may take on the Kindle Fire with a smaller iPad possible.

This is not the first time we have heard rumors of a smaller iPad, but new reports are suggesting that Apple may be currently testing an eight inch device. As Electronista are reporting Apple have often been known to test a variety of displays for its devices with many never seeing the light of day. Many consumers seem to prefer the bigger ten inch screen size, which Apple already dominates with the iPad.

But smaller devices such as the Amazon Kindle Fire have begun eating into Apple’s market share, with Samsung’s Galaxy Note also selling well. Only yesterday we told you about Samsungs new seven inch device the Galaxy Tab 2. According to Diana Wu of Capital Securities many consumers want a smaller tablet PC, and pricing of any new sized unit from Apple will be very important if it was too succeed.

Previously the late Steve Jobs championed the screen size of the iPad saying that it was ideal for such a device. Apple has over sixty percent of the tablet PC sector, and entering the lower end of the market could easily increase this further.

Rival companies have seen the most success with tablet PCs around seven inches, and a smaller device from Apple with most of the main features found in the standard iPad will tempt many consumers. It is thought a smaller iPad will offer a similar screen resolution to the current model otherwise not much else is known.

With regards to the iPad 3 there are rumors that the device could make its debut on March 7th. Apple would certainly be covering more bases by offering consumers a smaller iPad, and us consumers always like plenty of choice.

Yesterday we told you about the record sales that Apple has seen during its last fiscal quarter with the iPhone 4S leading the way. The results managed to even beat what many analysts were predicting for the company. Now we have news that Apple celebrates with big staff discounts on some of the company’s products.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has recently taken a Town Hall session with the company’s employees to discuss the successful holiday season sales, and talk about exciting things coming in the future. Cook also took the opportunity to reveal some new Apple employee benefits according to 9To5 Mac.

The company is now one of the wealthiest corporations in the world, and is giving some of that back to some of its employees. They will soon be giving $500 discounts on new purchases of Macs, and will also get a $250 discount when buying a new iPad.

It is thought that the new discount plan will begin sometime during June, which if latest rumors are anything to go by is when the next iPhone model will be coming. Employees of the company can make use of the plan every three years, and must have been working for Apple for at least ninety days.

The Mac part of the discount plan excludes the Mac mini because it is priced close to the $500 discount. Apple employees already enjoy a 25% discount on Macs, so for many cases $500 is a big discount. Do you work for Apple or know anyone who does?

It seems Microsoft is beginning to reestablish itself in all industries in order to prove to those who believe the company’s best days are behind them that they are still a dominant force, following the launch of it MSN app on the Xbox 360 and now the launch of its MSN iPad app.

For those you that are aware of the Xbox 360 MSN app, the iPad version offers the same exclusive content as that and the new look MSN UK. It allows simple and free access to the live site on the go. The content available is easily navigated and includes a selection of cars, entertainment, lifestyle, sports and news coverage. The experience is further enhanced with the addition of an Editor’s Pick section and video channel access.

Other features include access to Bing internet search and users’ Messenger and Hotmail accounts are just a click away within the app. MSN Executive Producer Peter Clifton revealed what the company’s aim is saying ‘We want to provide our audience with the content they want, whenever they want it and on whatever device they choose.’ As the app was already available on PC, mobiles and the Xbox, he added ‘creating an iPad app was the next natural step.’

One of the main attractions to an app like this is aimed at commuters who are unable to access internet all the time. As T3 explains with this app internet access is not necessarily needed as users can download all the content into an offline format before they leave allowing them to catch up with it at a later time when they are unable to get online.

Are you glad MSN is now available on the iPad?

Love them or loathe them Apple continue to dominate their sector as millions of consumers snap up their products. Sales of the iPhone 4S and iPad has led to record profits for the company during the final quarter of 2011.

The company has more than doubled its profits for the quarter with $13.06 billion, which compares to $6 billion for the same period in 2010. The latest results for the company smashed analyst’s forecasts, and comes after shares in the company dropped last October after iPhone sales missed their forecast according to The Guardian.

It has been revealed that the company managed to ship a record 37.04 million iPhones during the period, which is a 128 percent jump from a year ago. CEO Tim Cook stated the company could have sold even more if they had more stock, and comes as the iPhone 4S just launches in China.

The iPad saw record sales with 15.43 million being sold, which was more than HP managed to sell with its PC range. Mac sales also increased by 26 percent with 5.2 million units being sold, but it wasn’t good news for sales of the iPod though that saw a sales drop of 21 percent. This still meant the company sold 15.4 million units though, but the company did see higher average prices for the iPod Touch.

Cook revealed that the company has now sold 55 million iPads since it was first introduced less than two years ago. Even the company’s iTunes store saw massive revenues with $1.7 billion generated. Apple’s revenue climbed 73 percent to $46.3 billion, which again beat analysts’ forecasts.

Meanwhile Apple’s little hobby Apple TV also saw record sales during the quarter, selling over 1.4 million units. Cook praised the device and said the company continues to “add things to it”. The company has long been rumored to be entering the TV market, but the little black box continues to sell.

Are you surprised by Apple’s latest results?

The 2nd generation iPad released last year and you may remember the issues from display bleeding, we experienced this on two of our three test models, which saw light bleed from the edges and was most notable when the LCD showed dark images, like in movies.

While we own/test many Apple products, almost every major product Apple has launched over the last few years, it feels like the popular brand are rushing products more in recent years, which could be due to the pressure they’re under to meet demand. In the last year we’ve seen a bad signal issue with the iPhone 4, which led to free cases as a gesture by Apple, and we’ve also seen issues with iPad 2 displays. Other Apple fans/customers might have seen more problems, let us know in the comments.

We agree Apple has a habit of bringing technology together in a new product that people love, well most people, and the sales show this although we hope future product launches suffer less issues. The popularity of Apple products doesn’t seem to be slipping, if anything the global demand is increasing as Apple expands both its product base and reach, which means the demand would grow and could mean rushing to get products in consumer hands. Apple will likely succumb to Android tablet’s in time, although a cheaper iPad model would help fight this eventuality, thanks to the openness of Android and the amount of brands running hardware with a form of Android OS.

Apple’s iPad 3 is expected to have a release date within the next few months, and there could be some major changes in specs from previous models, which includes the type of display. Another issue is making enough Retina displays for the iPad 3, if the upcoming 3rd generation iPad features that spec, and it seems Apple may have recently tackled that “technical hurdle” to offer a release date soon, but the demand for so many Retina displays could worry those that suffered from iPad 2 display bleeding last year.

It’s worth noting that there is no evidence that Apple is rushing the iPad 3 release, although there has been evidence of iPad 2 issues due to the displays not being finished correctly, which has worried some iPad users thinking of upgrading to an iPad 3. With demand increasing for tablet’s and Apple the leader in this field, should we be worried?

Remember that it’s not the time between iPad releases that can be classed as hasty, but rather the time it takes to produce the product in the factory to meet demand. Apple would want to make sure quality control is up to scratch with the iPad 3, so they keep and gain more fans.

Are you thinking about investing in an iPad 3, and if so would you wait a couple of months after release incase of issues?

Now we are at that time of year where we like to indulge in lots of good food and drink, which can lead us to want to lose some weight and get fitter. Even at other times of the year people may be looking to get a little trimmer or start a weight loss program. These days there are many ways to get help in achieving your goals, and today we have a weight loss calculator and planner app for the iPad.

FitnessPlanner 1.0 has only recently been released but has got good reviews already from users who have downloaded it. The application is a standalone weight loss management system that provides users with all the general exercise information, nutritional guidelines, and weight loss planning techniques to get rid of those extra few pounds.

Some people may hire out an expensive personal trainer to get an effective fitness weight loss strategy, but the app can help with all this. There is a fully customizable fitness management system that is based on proven health science and strategies without undue hassle.

Based on the data that users enter into the app they are provided with how much weight they should lose. Users can also dictate how much weight they want to lose and how quickly, which creates fitness plans with users needs and schedules in mind. There is suggested daily food intake and physical activity choices that help users stay on track in achieving their personal goals.

Custom shopping lists are created to ensure users buy the correct foods, and a master schedule tracks overall progress on daily and weekly levels. The app will also be constantly updated and improved free of charge. FitnessPlanner 1.0 is available worldwide on the App Store for only $1.99/£1.49. iOS 4.3 or later required.
