As the Atlanta Thrashers, the team played in Atlanta, Georgia until purchased by True North Sports and Entertainment in 2011. The 2009–10 Capitals won the franchise’s first-ever Presidents’ Trophy for the team with the most points at the end of the regular season. On May 5, 1990, the Gunds officially sold their share of the North Stars to Baldwin and were awarded a new team for the Bay Area, based in San Jose.
