We have some good news for mobile gamers out there, as we can now confirm that Draw Something 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular first game, is now live on iOS devices. Unfortunately, there is no sign of an Android app just yet, as developers OMGPOP have said that an Android version will come at a later date.

It means that you’ll just have to sit back and wait as iOS users get the chance to sample the new game first. The app has been improved significantly, featuring a core emphasis on social aspects as you get to work on sketching pictures with a friend or random internet chum.

If you head to the US iOS App Store now, you should be able to download Draw Something 2 right this second. Hopefully, the app will also be available in UK and other parts of the world before the end of the week – otherwise, that’s a bit unfair really isn’t it? Above, you’ll see a screenshot of the app in action, confirming 5,000 new words to use and also words that now go up to nine letters in length.

Players can now set up their own profiles, with picture galleries for other players to enjoy, while it also looks like you’ll be able to chat to another player whilst you are drawing this time – the previous version only allowed you to chat in between matches. Does that mean that some potential Draw Something romances are going to happen now?

The app is available as a $2.99 premium download, or free-to-play which is supported by in-game ads. We recommend you to try out the free version first and if you absolutely love it, then drop the $2.99 if you feel that it is necessary. It’s a shame that the Android version is again second best on this occasion, as it would be nice to see some simultaneous launches for a change.

Are you waiting for this to arrive on Android? Let us know if you have tried out Draw Something 2 already.

Angry Birds Star Wars gameplay shows lightsabers http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/10/30/angry-birds-star-wars-gameplay-shows-lightsabers/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/10/30/angry-birds-star-wars-gameplay-shows-lightsabers/#comments Tue, 30 Oct 2012 02:09:53 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=154204 Most of you may be growing tired of even more Angry Bird games releasing every so often, but there is slightly more interest in the next one, as none other than the Star Wars universe will be invading the Angry Birds in November.

We have the very first gameplay to show you from the upcoming crossover and it’s the first time we’ve seen actual footage of gameplay in action, rather than just cutscenes and various teasers that Rovio put out in the past. As expected, lightsabers are going to be involved and you’ll be able to use Luke Skywalker’s trusty lightsaber to cut through objects as you approach them.

Joining young Skywalker will be princess Leia and we see her trusty blaster gun being used to great affect to take out a stationary AT-AT that has managed to take up residence with the pigs on one of the many Star Wars themed maps. From what we can see, the Tatooine and Hoth environments are two of the confirmed maps in the game and you can see what they look like in the very short clip below.

Hopefully Rovio will give us another teaser before November 8 as we’re sure that a lot of you need to see more gameplay before downloading first, a confirmation of how many levels will be included would be useful too. The one pleasing aspect about Angry Birds Star Wars, is that it is going to be available for download on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac at the same time – so no sign of any platform exclusivity which is great.

We fully expect there to be some unlockable Star Wars birds thrown in there too, as you just know, no Star Wars game is complete without the likes of Yoda and Chewbacca. We would like to think that Roxio has included them as hidden extras in the game, but we’ll just have to find out when the game goes live in just over a weeks time.

Will you be downloading Angry Birds Star Wars or not? Visit the official website here for some very cool artwork.

Ready for iOS 6 jailbreak say iOS 5.1.1 hackers http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/28/ready-for-ios-6-jailbreak-say-ios-5-1-1-hackers/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/28/ready-for-ios-6-jailbreak-say-ios-5-1-1-hackers/#comments Mon, 28 May 2012 08:13:18 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=150619 We know there are iPhone and iPad users that are really thankful for the work done by those behind the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, and of course there are also a massive group of users that couldn’t care less. The need is most certainly there and while this is the case the hackers will always want to help, and during a recent interview at Hack in the Box 2012 one blogger had the chance to ask directly about future jailbreaks and particularly iOS 6.

You can read the article here, the complete interview with @pod2g is yet to be published, and this article also includes a minor update clarifying the “part of iOS 6” claimed to be ready for jailbreak. In a nutshell it looks like a jailbreak for iOS 6 is not being worked on, but the jailbreak “Dream Team” has a few ideas for exploits they believe could work when the software is released to public at some point this year.

It’s interesting to see a new iOS launch and then those behind jailbreaking take so little time to unlock the software, and while this helps Apple improve security it seems like a constant cat and mouse game. Are you part of the iPhone community that love the work done by jailbreakers? The demand for unlocking iOS devices had been seen recently when Twitter was flooded with users tweeting about an untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, which came in the form of Absinthe 2.0.

What features do you want to see in iOS 6, and even the iOS 5.1.2 update if it comes first? We’d love to see better call blocking and Airplay enhanced natively, although we also know many features wanted by iPhone users is exactly the reason some people jailbreak their iOS devices.

iOS 5.1.2 update wished before iOS 6 http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/22/ios-5-1-2-update-wished-before-ios-6/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/22/ios-5-1-2-update-wished-before-ios-6/#comments Tue, 22 May 2012 15:11:05 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=150504 We’ve been hearing about a few rumors surrounding possible iOS 6 features over the last few weeks, which is not surprising considering WWDC 2012 is almost here, but there are plenty of users running iOS 5.1.1 that have problems and want a fix to these as soon as possible.

While our tests have found hardly any issues with the latest software update, the same cannot be said for other users with hundreds of posts on the official Apple forums. These users are wishing for the iOS 5.1.2 update to fix issue they have, and iOS 6 couldn’t be further from their mind. The focus for some people is if these issues should be expected with each update, and considering the amount of people owning iOS devices you’d expect problems from a certain amount of people.

It’s fair to say some of the problems being reported could be isolated cases that are related to specific installs, more weight is given to this after our tests with 3 different iPhone 4S models running the latest iOS. Intermittent problems we’ve heard about include crashing with Safari, App Store updates crashing certain apps, and the email client crashing. We first thought this is a small problem affecting a select number of users, especially considering our tests, but it’s clear there is some sort of pattern considering the amount of users reporting similar crashing and freezing. You can see for yourself via the Apple forums here.

Are you more concerned about an iOS 5.1.2 update releasing rather than iOS 6? The issues being reported are not tied to just the iPhone and we’ve heard about the iPad 3 also having intermittent problems as well since iOS 5.1.1, although a few users have managed to correct issues with a fresh install of the software. You can read more on iOS 6 in a recent article here.

iOS 5.1.1 update brings adverse reaction http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/12/ios-5-1-1-update-brings-adverse-reaction/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/12/ios-5-1-1-update-brings-adverse-reaction/#comments Sat, 12 May 2012 12:59:33 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=150359 Plenty of Apple device users installed the iOS 5.1.1 update on their iPhone, iPad and other devices without a single problem, which even included a few iPhone 4S models in our office that installed really easy. We came across one problem with the CallerID option disappearing from iMessage but later found out this had been a separate issue, which is not related to the iOS 5.1.1 update.

Some iOS owners are happy while thousands are not – we’ve heard plenty of people state before that problems are expected when millions of people own iDevices, but after looking at the official Apple discussion forums today it shows a very large number of people complaining about their iPad and iPhone software updates. This shows a real problem with the latest update that’s certainly causing hell for selected users, so we’d love to hear your issues in the comments, which some PR readers might be able to help you with.

Initial reaction to the iOS 5.1.1 update – Earlier this week we reported on the new iOS software that patched a number of bugs, although we quickly pointed out this update gave little in the way of new features. Most of the problems we’ve seen reported claim application crashes and freezing, which included apps like Twitter, Kayak, and more. It’s worth noting the majority of cases we saw installed the iOS 5.1.1 update over the air, although we cannot confirm if this is related in these situations.

Other issues are numerous but related to the latest iOS update – reports of sliding to spotlight search and the keyboard not disappearing when sliding back, Wi-Fi setting bugs, and a large number of people are reporting battery life decreasing faster after iOS 5.1.1 installed on iPhone 4/4S. The battery drainage saw some people experience a drop of around 10% an hour, and we hope this is not a step back to previous problems, which we’ve had ourselves in the past although we will be performing our own iOS 5.1.1 battery life tests through this weekend.

How did your iOS 5.1.1 update go, and if you have problems then leave a comment below and remember to state what iOS device you’re running? Is your battery dropping faster since iOS 5.1.1?

100 Floors: Level simplification for iPhone game http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/09/100-floors-level-simplification-game-kills-spare-time/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/05/09/100-floors-level-simplification-game-kills-spare-time/#comments Wed, 09 May 2012 06:52:22 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=150318 When it comes to the top apps on iTunes they change frequently and while some stay a while, like Angry Birds, others come and go with quick success and short attention spans. Today another iOS app has caught the eye of iPhone and iPod users in the thousands, and that game is 100 floors although some people want to cheat certain levels.

Puzzle games love to kill spare time – one thing you can count on with harder puzzle apps is the fact that many will steal your spare time, and while some people breezed through 100 floors level 1 to 30, others need a walkthrough for this addicting iPhone game.

Those behind the 100 Floors app promise new floors over time, so you only need to check for updates if you’ve completed the game already and loved it. Those of our readers that need a little help can see the video below this article, which runs you through all the levels. We found the 100 Floors puzzle game simple and great fun, although level 18 caused us a few problems until we figured out you needed to press all the blue lights quickly until they turned off.

Have you had problems with any of 100 Floors levels? Level 9, 10, 28, and 6 were also tricky for us but very simple after we worked them out. It seems stupid really when you get stuck on some levels that are really simple in hindsight.

100 Floors is not the only new app that has caught the attention of iPod and iPhone owners, you might also want to try the Logos Quiz app via our earlier article here.

Not long for Instagram on Android, beta testing underway http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/03/12/not-long-for-instagram-on-android-beta-testing-underway/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/03/12/not-long-for-instagram-on-android-beta-testing-underway/#comments Mon, 12 Mar 2012 10:37:07 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=149539 Currently there are a couple of applications available on the iOS platform that many Android users have high on their wish lists. Recently we had the news that Temple Run will finally be landing on the Android platform later this month, and now we have news that it won’t be long before Instagram for Android is released as beta testing is underway.

The founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, was talking yesterday at the South by Southwest conference, and mentioned the iOS version has seen its users almost double since December last year. As it is being reported by the Huffington Post the application now has 27 million users that are registered to the service, which compares to Foursquare that has just shy of 20 million users, but has been going since March 2009. The iOS version of the app has recently been updated for users of the platform.

Currently the Instagram application is only available for iOS users, but Systrom said an Android version had been developed and private beta testing had already begun ahead of a release “very soon”. Kevin Systrom also went on to mention the Android application will be better than the iOS version in some ways, and the team had been looking to make it one of the best Android applications available.

One way the Instagram application is said to better is the speed of it, with Systrom stating it was “really fast”. The day the app first launched around 25 thousand people signed up for it according to Systrom, with Apple choosing Instagram as its app of the year in 2011.

The application has certainly proved successful since it hit the App Store back in the fall of 2010, and hopefully Android users will soon be able to find out what all the fuss is about once it is released for their platform.

Are you looking forward to get Instagram on your Android device?

Jailbreak for iOS 5.1 doesn’t exist yet http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/03/08/jailbreak-for-ios-5-1-doesnt-exist-yet/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/03/08/jailbreak-for-ios-5-1-doesnt-exist-yet/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 23:11:44 +0000 Jamie Pert http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=149471 Recently Apple launched iOS 5.1 and with it comes lots of new and improved features, however we must warn any of you who are looking to update to this new iOS and jailbreak / unlock it that you should steer well clear for the time being – this applies to you no-matter what iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch you’re using, even it’s the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

We’ve been traipsing through websites and forums to try and see if there’s a jailbreak for iOS 5.1, but to our knowledge this doesn’t exist yet, what we did spot was some Twitter activity from some well-known iOS hackers which confirms our suspicions.

A tweet from @digidude512 (an iOS hacker since iOS 2.21) was retweeted by a very well known iOS hacker who goes by the alias p0sixninja (Twitter feed here). We’ve embedded the tweet below and as you can see it’s safe to say that if these people warn against jailbreakers updating to iOS 5.1 it should not be done.

If you check out this tweet you can see that someone is claiming that a jailbreak for the official version of iOS 5.1 is coming very soon. Apparently a team called the DyLibHackers have successfully jailbroken iOS 5.1 beta 3 and it’s just a matter of time until they finalize a jailbreak for the public release version of the software – we’re not sure how genuine this is at present, so we’ll have to keep you posted. Also the phrase “a matter of time” is very vague, a matter of time could mean, second, minutes, hours, days, weeks or more – we want specifics!

We tried to find out more about the DyLibHackers but there’s not a lot showing up, apparently they’ve also been working on bring BBM to iOS via an application called iBBM – but that’s about it.

As and when we hear more about a tethered or untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 we will keep you posted, let us know if you hear anything.

Apple: iOS 5.1 for download today http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/03/07/apple-part-of-ios-5-1-for-download-today/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/03/07/apple-part-of-ios-5-1-for-download-today/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 18:21:30 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=149454 While the Apple keynote is underway today we’ve heard from Tim Cook, Apple CEO, about the launch of iOS 5.1 and he stated that the download would be available today. While we are yet to hear about all the features included in the next iOS update, we do know that Siri is getting support for the Japanese language.

Apple has also stated about their success over the last year, which they do at every event, and this has included stats on the App Store and that it has more than 585,000 apps for you download right now. Cook explained that the their system is a “hugely profitable cycle” with some great apps being created, which then lead to more apps and increased downloads. Apple reported they sold a total of 315m iOS devices last year, which is a lot of people looking to download the iOS 5.1 update, so if you hit a few connections problems in iTunes it’s to be expected.

Some other great news is that iTunes in the cloud now supports movies, which means you can re-download any movie you’ve bought in 1080p. Do you think you will take Apple up on this free offer? You’ll be able to download iOS 5.1 in the UK/US today, although Japan will be waiting a couple of weeks longer.

If you’re connected to a WiFi network and syncing with iTunes wirelessly on iOS 5+, then your iPad or iPhone is ready and it should be pretty simple to download iOS 5.1 when it’s available. We just clicked the update button and v5.1 is not live in iTunes yet.

Update: The update is now live and also suggests it fixes bugs with battery life, so we’ll have to test v5.1 on an iPhone 4S and see if that is true.

Apple allegiance with Messages beta http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/02/19/apple-allegiance-with-messages-beta/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/02/19/apple-allegiance-with-messages-beta/#comments Sun, 19 Feb 2012 11:19:21 +0000 Daniel Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=148866 We’ve mentioned before about brands rewarding for loyalty in the tech industry, and buyers of Apple products know how well many of their devices connect to each other. Texting between iPhone’s, iPad’s and the iPod touch has never been easier and it seems that Apple want to connect their mobile and desktop devices better in the coming year.

When we first tried iOS 5 and the new message system it seemed a step that was both obvious and extremely useful, which meant that you could text people without an iPhone and the messages would show in a green color but those with an iOS device showed in blue. If your friends or family had an iOS device then the messages with videos and photos could be sent via Wi-Fi, and this saves you money/text allowances because they’re free between Apple devices.

It’s hard to explain what a massive difference it makes to prioritize Wi-Fi for sending messages and using 3G as a secondary option, which not only gives faster delivery and instant display of the recipient typing but also benefits thousands of people that like to send text messages internationally.

The next step is Apple’s Messages beta – we wrote about a number of features for Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion a couple of days ago, and today we wanted to focus on the new Apple Messages beta. Some of our readers would rightly point out that other messaging services already have what Apple is building, although it’s how Apple are centralizing all messages under one service for many Apple products, which is likely to build more allegiance for the popular tech brand.

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion will change everything – We’ve heard about people trading Android phones in for iPhone’s just because they love the iPad, iPod touch or Mac OS X computers. Users want their gadgets to work better together and when it comes to messaging Apple are going to make iOS and OS X work in harmony, which means starting a conversation on one Apple device and then carrying on where you left off with another. Think about talking on your iMac via the future Messages app and then going mobile to carry on messaging.

Let’s take a closer look at Apple Messages beta – we’ve included some videos below this article to help you get a better understanding of the new Messages beta, although if you want to jump in and download the software right now head over to this page on Apple’s website. The first video below gives you a quick overview from the moment Messages is installed, which is great if you want to see how the setup guide works.

The second video takes a look at how Messages beta easily works with other iOS devices like the iPhone, and in this video they start typing on a Mac and then jump onto an iPhone to see the message already there ready to carry on with that device if the user wants to. In the third video we’ve included a just under 10-minute hands-on with Mountain Lion 10.8, although those of you that want to see the official preview should see the fourth video below.

Have you downloaded the Messages beta for Mac OS X, if so how did you find it? Let us know if you find any problems with the beta.
