We told you that it was only going to be a matter of a time before a jailbreak was finalized for A5 devices, and now it looks like we are just days away from a public release. A video has now been revealed showing the process in action and it confirms that the jailbreak method is an untethered one as well.

Those of you with an iPhone 4 or 4th generation iPod Touch are probably enjoying a jailbroken handset now since a release was made public just before the end of the year. However, those of you with A5 devices such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S had to wait until developers found a way to crack Apple’s tighter security.

It was just a while ago that we told you that hackers were ‘uniting’ and forming a collective alliance to get the A5 jailbreak released quicker and it looks like their efforts paid off. The video has been published by pod2g who was responsible for the iPhone 4 untethered jailbreak on iOS 5, but from what we gather this untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S has been credited to Dustin Howett who is a Chronic Dev Team member – the group responsible for the GreenPois0n software.

The video confirms that this is an untethered jailbreak working as stable as you like, on iOS 5.0.1. It means that users can reboot their device and still remain in a jailbroken state, without having the need to connect the iPhone 4S up to a computer. As we mentioned above there is no public download yet, but considering that this video shows clear evidence of success, we expect it won’t be long until you can all try this out yourselves.

Is there nothing that these hackers cannot bypass? We have a feeling that a lot of you cannot wait to get access to the Cydia store on your iPhone 4S. There’s no word on a jailbreak for the iPad 2 yet, but we’re guessing that Apple’s latest tablet will be their next project.

If you own an iPhone 4S, you may have been surprised this week to notice that Apple has pushed a new software update that is available to download now. The iOS 5.0.1 firmware is still the same version, but the update is different in the fact that is has a new build number.

At the moment, a lot of users are scratching their heads as to what this update actually does, since Apple has not offered any sort of official patch notes on what has changed since the last iPhone 5.0.1 build. It’s also important to point out that this update is only available for the iPhone 4S and not for any other iOS device such as the iPhone 4.

Has the company secretly improved on those well-documented battery life woes that have plagued the handset since launch, or is it just a very minor maintenance or security update that Apple feel the need not to tell anyone about? For your reference, the new build number is identified as 9A406 and can be download now on the iPhone 4S via iTunes or on your handset directly via OTA.

You may recall that when Apple released iOS 5.0.1 last month, they clearly stated in their update notes that improvements to battery life have been made. There is no sign of this in this new iPhone 4S update though, so it continues to be a mystery on what has been fixed. If you have already installed the update on the iPhone 4S, let us know of any changes you have noticed, such as an increase in battery life.

Update: Information posted by iPhone hacker MuscleNerd appears to suggest that one of the changes Apple has made in their new iOS 5.0.1 build is to make porting Siri to the iPhone 4 ‘legally possible’ by allowing system files to be accessed, as detailed by CultofMac. More information on this coming soon.

Recently we told you how the release of iOS 5.0.2 had been delayed, today we thought we would gain some insight from our readers regarding what changes they would like to see the most when it finally arrives.

Currently we aren’t too sure exactly what this update will bring, however it seems likely that Apple’s developers will have been concentrating heavily on squeezing every last minute of battery life out of the iPhone 4S. Since the smartphone’s release lots of people have complained about its battery life, however we have no complaints with this aspect of the 4S following extensive hands-on time with it (that said certain software configurations can heavily affect things).

What we would like to see is more improvements made to Siri, it’s still in its beta stages and certain features only work in the United States we think it is about time that this changed. A recent Siri hack showed the true potential of the iPhone 4S’ built-in personal assistant, therefore it would be nice to see Apple unleash Siri’s more advanced capabilities and perhaps further integrate within iOS and the many applications available from the App Store.

Asides from battery life and Siri we think that most people are pretty happy with the iPhone 4S, some suggest that the Facebook integration is miles behind that of Android and even Windows Phone 7, but in terms of the smartphone’s most important features and functionality it has to be said that iOS 5.0.1 combined with the iPhone 4S delivers an extremely rich smartphone experience for the user.

Below we have set up a simple poll to gain some feedback from our readers, however we would love to see your other iOS 5.0.2 wishes in the comments section at the bottom of this page, please mention what changes you would like to see no-matter how minor they are.

[poll id="411"]

Apple has only just released iOS 5.0.1 to consumers, but we’re already hearing information about Apple’s forthcoming iOS 5.0.2 update. According to the latest reports though, it may be delayed from its initial release, due a problem related to memory leakage.

This hasn’t been confirmed by Apple yet, but it is being widely reported at the moment, with the origin of the source coming from German website Macerkopf, as reported from CNET. This is the same site that first dropped details on Apple’s next ‘major’ iOS update, iOS 5.1 which apparently will bring new functionality to Siri.

As for the delay though, the website claims that Apple are having problems with memory leaks within the code of iOS 5.0.2 and will now not be released to public at the end of this week, as previous rumors suggest. For those of you who are not familiar with the term memory leak, it is the issue where an app continues to consume memory from your iOS device, even when the user has closed the app down.

This could be the latest in a series of iOS 5-related issues for Apple. Consumers have complained for weeks about poor battery life on the new iPhone 4S, while just recently there have also been reports about loss of WiFi signal on iOS 5 as well.

Apple has yet to come out and officially confirm or deny the claims, but they have acknowledged the battery life issues at least, since the patch notes in iOS 5.0.1 specifically noted battery life improvement as a fix. The official Apple support boards are continuing to experience high volumes of traffic as frustrated consumers state their woes, so hopefully Apple will sort out the problems for good with their next update to iOS 5.0.2.

If you are still having any problems on iOS 5 related to the issues mentioned above, let us know your thoughts on this potential delay for iOS 5.0.2. We’ll let you know once we hear of an official release.
