We have some important news for those of you who are seeking to unlock iOS 4.3 for the iPhone 4 handset. It has been discovered that a SIM card known as the Gevey SIM apparently allows the user to unlock Apple’s latest software, without the need of jailbreaking it first.

The good news about this method, is that it can also unlock the latest baseband, 04.10.01, but the bad news is that there are question marks as to if this method of unlocking is deemed legal or not.

Basically, the Gevey SIM operates by tampering with the iPhone’s activation servers by using the emergency dialer. Another thing that you need to be aware of, is that this thing costs $70 to buy, as reported from Ubergizmo. Also, once you have acheived an unlock on your iPhone 4 using the Gevey SIM, you can’t turn your phone off or you’ll need to repeat the process again – which is obviously frustrating.

Still though, those of you with $70 to spare and who are desperate to unlock your iPhone 4 at any cost, this method may be worthwhile for you. For everyone else who is a bit concerned about this though, it may be worth holding off until the iPhone Dev Team come up with a better solution.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you considering buying the Gevey Sim card for $70 or do you think it is a risky move? We’ll let you know when the thing is out, it’s meant to be hitting retailers and places like Ebay and Amazon soon.

If you have installed iOS 4.3 on your fourth-generation iPod Touch chances are things went smoothly, however we are hearing reports suggesting that some iPod Touch owners have noticed graphical glitches since updating to the latest iOS version.

According to Engadget and a comment on our iOS 4.3 problems post the blue box which shows notifications shows weird graphical glitches, we have embedded a video at the end of this post showing the issue, apparently this only occurred after installing iOS 4.3.

Apple has not commented on this problem yet, however if you check out the YouTube comments you will see how widespread it is, Engadget ran a poll and at the time of this post over 1000 people claimed that their iPod Touch was experiencing similar issues post update.

It has to be said that most 4th-gen iPod Touch owners have experienced no problems with the update, hopefully a new update will be rolled out by Apple soon to correct the issue. A forum post on Apple Discussions suggests that some people resolved the issue by presssing the home button and off/on button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, however this did not permanently fix the problem for all users

Has your Apple device suffered a similar problem since installing iOS 4.3? If so, have you discovered a fix / workaround? Let us know in the comments section below.

The latest software update from Apple has only been available for a couple of days, after the company released it ahead of schedule. One of the new features of iOS 4.3 is the personal hotspot feature for the iPhone. But not everyone is able to use the service.

Gareth Beavis over at TechRadar is reporting that Tesco Mobile users with an iPhone 4 have been complaining the new feature was not on their device, despite updating to iOS 4.3. The feature will allow users to send their data allowance to another device via Wi-Fi.

Tesco Mobile have since confirmed it doesn’t currently support tethering or the portable Wi-Fi hotspot feature. A spokesperson did confirm they will introduce it sometime soon for its customers, but didn’t mention if it would cost any extra. The company offers the iPhone 4 on short twelve month contracts, but for those customers not having this feature must be really frustrating.

Do you have an iPhone 4 with Tesco Mobile?

There have been many stories in the media where iOS users have seen their children running up big bills by making in-app purchases, this normally happens after acquiring a new game. But now in a welcomed move, Apple have changed its app policy.

Daniel Eran Dilger over at AppleInsider is reporting that in-app purchases now require a password by Apple. Before this, once a password was entered there was a fifteen minute period of time where additional purchases could be made without reentering the password.

Many parents soon discovered after purchasing a new game, their children had run up bills into hundreds of dollars. There are many iOS games which are built around in-app purchases with the game play reliant on buying more items. Without these controls games which start off cheap or even free, end up being very expensive.

The Washington State Attorney General’s office started to look into the situation last December, and then the US Federal Trade Commission started to get involved soon after. Trudy Muller an Apple spokesperson said in a statement that the company was “proud to have industry-leading parental controls with iOS”.

It was mentioned that users could already restrict in-app purchases to prevent accidental charges on their iTunes accounts. With the new settings parents can stop their children from purchasing new apps, deleting existing apps, downloading iTunes content by rating. Certain apps which download content or interact with strangers can be blocked.

Users can also restrict the use of Location Services, blocking multiplayer games, changing account settings, and the ability to add strangers as friends using the Game Center platform. Once these settings are made they are protected by a PIN code. Users of Android have no control on app purchases or in-app purchases, and the Android Market has many apps with nudity and other adult content.

Have your children ever made purchases without your knowledge?

Apple’s Airplay was a great feature for being able to push content to your TV via the iPad; iPhone and iPod but many families did not need that feature. The release of iOS 4.3 improved things, now the above portable devices can benefit from a feature that Mac and Windows computers had for some time with iTunes.

Home Sharing is a major improvement to iOS and streaming video, music, and more around the home. You can now pull movies from your iTunes Library to the iPad, iPhone and IPod although this is met with problems when it comes to kids.

Your iTunes Library could include 18+ content, which is not good if a child starts to watch a movie like this, so how do you go about setting a restriction for children?

Could you imagine an 8-year old watching ‘Chainsaw Massacre’ via their iPad, this could easily happen if restrictions are not put in place for kids. One quick answer is to build up another library for the younger audience, but this may not be the answer for some, especially if space is limited.

What we would like to see is some “child control’ feature added to iOS 4.4, iOS 5.0 or the next version of Apple iTunes that makes setting controls unique to each Apple device. If you have any ideas we’ve missed, then please let us know in the comments.

If you are not already aware, Apple users can now download iOS 4.3 which has come 2 days earlier than the original projected date of March 11. With the new update, you are treated to a host of new features and improvements from 4.2. Let’s just hope that there is not a countless list of iOS 4.3 problems.

Engadget report that the update is readily available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users who should see the update upon plugging in their Apple device and loading up iTunes.

So what is included in the update you say? As we detailed previously, one of the heavy hitters of 4.3 will be the added Wi-Fi HotSpot functionality.

This is pleasing news for iPhone owners who did not get their iPhone with from Verizon, the Verizon iPhone launched with this feature, but up until now AT&T customers have been waiting. To use this feature though, you must be signed up to the corresponding data plan that supports it. You can view more information on a previous article here.

Alongside the addition of HotSpots, we also get a bundle of AirPlay updates and features, a new version of Safari web browser, and a selection of minor updates which include the ability to customize how the side switch on your iPad behaves.

The new version of Safari comes with new updates, which Apple say will make the browser run twice as quick as the previous version.

iTunes Home Sharing also received the update treatment with the ability to now connect to home Wi-Fi networks and stream countless content from iOS devices to other multimedia outlets such as televisions, speakers and other devices.

Have you installed iOS 4.3? If so, did it goe smoothly or are you experiencing problems?

Last week we got official news about Apple’s iOS 4.3 update, and at the time were given a date of March 11 for the release of the update. We are now getting rumors we may see it later today.

The report by Jonathan S.Geller over at BGR who are normally pretty accurate in getting scoops from inside the Cupertino Campus, is saying the update could go live at 10am Pacific time. This is 6pm UK time, and comes three days earlier then the launch date which was given by Steve Jobs at last week’s iPad 2 event.

They are also reporting another bit of news about the Apple’s new personal hotspot feature. All the talk before was the fact that this would only support three devices, unlike other platforms supporting five. BGR have been told that the default setting is indeed three devices, but if a carrier requests more it can be ramped up to support five devices.

This early update does make sense as it will give Apple a couple of days to deal with the extra network traffic, and support calls an update can bring before the iPad 2 is launched with the software already built in.

Do you think we will see the iOS 4.2 update today?

If you will be installing iOS 4.3 on your AT&T iPhone 4 next week you are probably wondering what changes to expect, well one exciting new feature allows your iPhone 4 to act as a personal WiFi Hotspot.

AT&T customers will be glad to hear that this functionality is being added as Verizon iPhone 4 owners have had access to this feature since it was released in February, to utilize this feature customers will have to subscribe to the DataPro 4GB/$45 tethering data plan.

According to AppleInsider the final iOS 4.3 build has been released to developers, therefore there is no reason why it won’t go public on March 11th, Verizon Wireless customers will have to wait as the Verizon iPhone 4 differs from the standard iPhone 4.

AT&T’s hotspot plan allows for the double amount of data that Verizon’s hotspot plan does, however AT&T’s 4GB plan costs $45 per month, whereas Verizon’s plan gives you 2GB of data for $20 per month.

The small print makes things a bit more equal as AT&T charge just $10 per 1GB when you go over your data allowance, whereas Verizon charge you $20 per 1GB of overage.

Will you be using the AT&T iPhone 4′s hotspot functionality?

Earlier on we wrote an article which asked the question who would be the first team to successfully jailbreak the iPad 2, but now it seems a breakthrough has been made. The jailbreak tool known as PwnageTool has successfully managed to jailbreak the GM version of iOS 4.3, meaning that a full jailbreak could be imminent.

For those of you who are familiar with PwnageTool, version 4.2 of the software is needed to jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM, but of course you’ll still require the iOS 4.3 download, which can only be obtained via a developer account with Apple.

Providing you have this and the newest version of iTunes 10.2 installed, you can then go ahead and start the PwnageTool 4.2 jailbreak for iOS 4.3. According to RedmondPie, Cydia has already been confirmed to be supported by this jailbreak, but you’ll want to note that this jailbreak is tethered, meaning that you’ll need to repeat the process each time you reboot your iPhone 4.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you surprised that it has been jailbroken in a matter of hours? Don’t be surprised if hackers manage to jailbreak the full version of iOS 4.3 on March 11th. You can view more details on how to get this jailbreak working over at RedmondPie – they have included pictures and videos for you.

Those of you that own an iPad know that one of the major problems has been streaming from your Mac Desktop, yes you can get apps that let you control your Mac, but these are not what the iPad owner really wants.

With Apple iPad 2, you will be able to stream wirelessly from the Mac, which will solve all those situations when you wanted to watch something via the iPad that was on your Mac. Movies, music videos and a lot more means that Apple are really moving ahead with making our streaming lives that much more simple.

This will really make things easier for owners who watch a lot of movies or music videos on their iPad at home. Having this new feature will mean you need a lot less storage when it comes to watching content on your iPad. iOS 4.3 will be available free of charge from March 11 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch 3G and 4G.

Are you pleased with this new feature?
