We have been hearing a lot of rumors since the release of iOS 4.2 about the next update, some claiming that it will be 2 weeks after 4.2. Well 2 weeks is up today so we are hoping that the release comes.

We asked you what you would like to see included in the iOS 4.3 update and got some interesting responses, some want a dormant FM receiver, some want to be able to do more customization and others are simply calling for more printer models to be added to the AirPrint.

Whilst the 4.2 brought significant changes like AirPrint and AirPlay we hear that 4.3 will be bringing only 1 big change, that change is subscription billing. Once the update goes through companies will be able to charge weekly, monthly or annual subscriptions.

So how is this different to the current iOS? At the moment the only time you pay anything is when you want a newly released magazine although the Economist app works in a slightly different way, you download their magazine every Thursday night however, the difference is it requires you to be a member directly with the company.

I still believe that iOS 4.3 is possible to come today I mean, what sort of testing would they need to do on an update like that, it wouldn’t really require a Beta especially as it will be dealing with people’s money. Obviously Apple would be taking a cut from the content writers but how much has not been said. If it is going to come for iPad users click here, for iPhone users click here, Apple usually add a learn more button and announce the most up to date version for each device.

Today is the rumored release date so let’s see what materializes. We will inform you upon the release. What do you think? Will it be released today or are we looking at next year? Let us know in the comments below.

We have some good news for those of you who are becoming increasingly frustrated over the fact that the new AirPrint features on iOS 4.2 only work with selected printers. We have found a few tricks which will let you use AirPrint with any printer.

As reported from BGR, iOS hackers have once again worked their magic, and we can now confirm that there are solutions to get AirPrint working on any printer, for both Mac and Windows users.

BGR has provided the steps needed to get the AirPrint hack working on a Mac computer, as users will need to download some software appropriately named ‘AirPrint Hacktivator’. They have also updated their article which provides details on how Windows users can join in on the fun as well.

Head to BGR for full instructions for Mac and Windows. There is also a video guide if you get stuck too. Let us know if it works for you.

Last Monday Apple made iOS 4.2 available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad; the next day that OS was jailbreaked. The redsn0w 0.9.6b4 was that jailbreak, which we offered you download instructions for. Then on Friday we offered you a Redsn0w Video Guide, which you can see here.

I wonder how many of you decided to jailbreak their iPad or iPhone, and what issues you had? I have never tried it myself, but with it now being legal in the U.S. more people are unlocking the true power of these iOS devices. However, those in the UK still do it in secret, as it is still illegal here.

The recent iOS 4.2.1 has now given the iPad a new lease of life, but we still cannot help but think that it will soon have a successor, then iPad 2. We assume that this new device will launch in April 2011, but we have reason to believe that it could be January; we will discuss this in detail in a later post.

We have some good news for those of you looking to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on your iOS device, as we have a useful video guide to share with you now, which will help you to install the new software without any problems.

The guide comes to you courtesy of RedmondPie, who have felt the need to provide a video, as well as a written guide for those who find it easier following a video.

As you know, iOS 4.2 is now out, but many iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users are looking for a jailbreak option for iOS 4.2.1. Earlier on this week we informed you about the new version of Redsn0w which had just been released (0.9.6b4), and we also gave you a reminder not to install this if you were looking to unlock your device using ultrasn0w.

However, if you know what you are doing and wish to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w, check out the video guide below. Let us know if you have any problems whilst jailbreaking.

Monday was a great day if you had an iOS device, as the latest 4.2 firmware update was made available. I feel like I have been talking about AirPrint (one of the feature updates) too much, but there are things that need explaining. The first was how to use the new feature; the second was what were the compatible printers. Now I have something that I know you will want to know, Printopia for the Mac will make every printer compatible.

My HP printer is over a year old, and it is for that reason that it will not support the new AirPrint feature; this either meant purchasing yet another new printer or not worrying about printing from my iPhone 4 or iPad. So you can imagine how happy I am about Printopia?

If you have a Mac and an iOS device, then Printopia could be the best piece of software you have ever installed – ok I am making more of this than what it is. 9 to 5 Mac tells us not to worry about installing the software, as it will not make any changes to your file system.

The only downside I can see is having to pay $9.95 to be able to use AirPrint with all printers – some might say that is a small price to pay. I will not try and tell you that you should download this software, but I will say that spending $10 is better than spending 10 to 20 times that on a new printer – would you not agree?

iOS 4.2 is now live, which you may have guessed by the range of subjects covered on this update. The main features were AirPlay, AirPrint and finally multitasking for the iPad. However, one thing that did go unnoticed was the new text tones, but iPhone 3G / 3GS users have been left disappointed.

The reason for this is because they do not have these extra tones, which Phones Review helped point out. I should have noticed this when I updated my dad’s iPhone 3G last night, but did not even think to check if these new message tones were missing.

The heads-up to this issue was found by TiPb, and they can already see that iPhone 3G and 3GS users are not happy with Apple. It seems that this is another kick in the teeth for those who do not have the most up-to-date iPhone.

However, there are those who would argue that the new text tones are rubbish, and I would have to agree. How many times do we need to say that cheaper and older phones have better message and ringtone alerts?

iPhone 3G and 3Gs owners, do you feel as if Apple has <s>screwed you over</s> let you down once again?

iOS 4.2 was released on Monday, 22nd November, and there were two main features that we had been waiting on, AirPlay and AirPrint. Some of you may have struggled to understand how to use these new features, so we have a how to guide for you to read here. The next question on our mind is which printers support Apple’s new feature?

We thought we would take a look at the HP printers, as this is the brand that offers the most support for AirPrint. Hewlett Packard has a PDF that offers details on all supported printers, and you can see that it has been broken down into three sections, “Already compatible with Apple iOS 4.2”, “May require a firmware upgrade”, and “Will require a firmware upgrade on December 27”. A complete list of all these printers can be found here.

As you can imagine, there have been a lot of questions regarding ePrint, and HP has the answers to those. These questions range from wanting to know about Apple’s AirPrint and HP printers, to how to get it. The answers are simple and straightforward. Let us know how you got on if you have a compatible printer?

There has been a lot of confusion over Apple’s AirPrint and HP’s ePrint, but the two are different things. The former allows iOS devices access to supported AirPrint printers, while the latter allows you to print from anywhere in the world. For more details on this visit the HP support page.

For those of you who have encountered a worrying music-related bug on your iPhone or iPod Touch after updating to the recently released iOS 4.2, we have a few steps which may help you to solve your problem.

As reported from Apple Insider, a select number of iPhone and iPod Touch users have been complaining that their entire iTunes music library had been whiped after installing the iOS 4.2 update on their device.

If this has happened to you, you’ll be pleased to know that there is a quick fix which should correct the problem for you. Firstly, you’ll need to connect your device to iTunes via USB. Afterwards, play a song on the iPhone itself from iTunes and then Click the “Sync” button to re-sync the iPhone. Finally, opening the iPod application on the iPhone to rebuild the music library should fix up the problem for you.

If it works for you, then you should thank Apple forum member “slouchsock8″ for the tips. If you have any other problems on iOS 4.2 after updating, you can visit our problem thread here.

Despite the fact that iOS 4.2 has only just been released, we are already hearing somewhat surprising rumors, that Apple are planning to release another significant update to iOS 4.3 in a matter of weeks.

As reported from RedmondPie, the news has come from MacStories, who have obtained their information from anonymous sources – no surprises there then.

However, the update could have a little truth to it, as further information we’ve read coincides with other rumors that are meant to be happening, all of which will take place mid-December.

Remember a few days ago we told you about Apple’s plans for a digital newspaper for the iPad? Well, that is apparently going to serve as one of the main features of iOS 4.3, and we’ve also heard plans for another Apple event on December 9th, in which Steve Jobs will be discussing this in further detail.

It does seem a bit strange though, that Apple would push out iOS 4.3 so soon after releasing iOS 4.2. Usually we get the beta and GM releases first, so a iOS 4.3 release in two weeks time seems way off the mark. However, we love surprises, and it would be great if it turns out to be true. Let us know your thoughts on this.

We have some information for those of you seeking a jailbreak for the recently released iOS 4.2.1 GM that Apple put out. An updated version of Redsn0w will jailbreak your iOS devices, but those of you who wish to unlock should pay attention.

If you are not interested in unlocking your iPhone 4 and just want to find a jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, you’ll find a useful article over at RedmondPie, which provides detailed instructions as well as download links in order to get everything working.

However, unlocking iPhone handsets remain as popular as ever, so we should point out that you should ‘avoid’ downloading Redsn0w 0.9.6b3 if you want to unlock your device. Instead you should wait for further instructions from the iPhone Dev Team, as they are currently in the midst of working on a new untethered jailbreak which will allow you to unlock iOS 4.2.1 with ultrasn0w.

It sounds a bit confusing, but really it’s not. If you need a jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, hit the link to RedmondPie above, for an unlock, stay tuned for further news from us. If you do decide to jailbreak, let us know how you get on and if it worked for you or not.
