This jailbreak is essentially the same as the PwnageTool jailbreak which was released for Mac users a few weeks ago, as sn0wbreeze 2.1 will jailbreak all iOS 4.1 devices without updating baseband 05.13.04, meaning that iPhone users will be able to unlock their handset afterwards using the current version of ultrasn0w.

If you want to try this out, you’ll be pleased to know that the guys over at RedmondPie have put together a very useful tutorial guide, including all the relevant download links which you’ll need.

The latest version of sn0wbreeze will jailbreak the iPhone 4, 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch 2G, 3G, 4G, Apple iPad and also the 2G Apple TV. Let us know if you decide to try this, and if it worked ok for you.

As reported from RedmondPie, the Chronic Dev-Team confirmed the news in a recent status update on Twitter, adding that the open source tools for GreenPois0n will be available once the main release moves out of beta.

What will an open source release of GreenPois0n mean though? Well, it will essentially allow developers and other members of the public access to all the tools within GreenPois0n, allowing them to modify it with extra features and tweaks to their liking.

In case you didn’t know by now, this new version of PwnageTool will jailbreak all iOS 4.1 devices. That includes the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G and 4G, Apple iPad and also Apple TV.

This jailbreak is important to those of you who haven’t already used the GreenPois0n or Limera1n jailbreaks, as PwnageTool will allow you to jailbreak iOS 4.1 without updating your baseband, i.e – allowing you to unlock your handset for use with other carriers.

According to this report from RedmondPie, Geohot has a new bootrom exploit which he is saving for future devices such as the iPhone 5 or upcoming CDMA iPhone.

It is now thought that this is the main reason why Geohot made use of a userland exploit from iPhone Dev-Team member Comex for his recent Limera1n jailbreak which was untethered. By implementing Comex’s exploit, it means that he could then save his new tool for future devices – so basically it’s a win win situation for everyone.

Whether or not Geohot was right to release Limera1n when he did is another matter, but theres no doubt that the guy is dedicated in bringing what the community wants.

We wonder what Apple are thinking of this, knowing that they are due to release their CDMA iPhone and iPhone 5 device after that. Give us your reaction to the news.

PwnageTool is expected to release this Sunday, Musclenerd has provided a quick video teaser, which shows him using PwnageTool to restore his iPad to a pre-iOS 3.2.2 custom firmware.

However, some of you appear to be having problems with Limera1n after installing, as confirmed on the official Limera1n website.

If you haven’t tried installing the Limera1n jailbreak for your iOS 4.1 device yet, you can do so by obtaining the download over at Geohot’s website here.

While the download notes says that this will jailbreak all devices on iOS 4.1, it looks as if there is a known problem when trying to install Limera1n on the iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1. This has been confirmed by Geohot himself with the following message:

”3GS new bootrom is broken, fix pending”

For those of you who are having problems, hold on as we’re sure Geohot is working on a quick fix for you. The good news however, is that Limera1n appears to be working flawlessly on the iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1.

GreenPois0n will not only jailbreak the iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1, but also the new iPod Touch too. It will also be able to jailbreak previous generation iPhones and iPod Touches, along with the Apple iPad running iOS 3.2.2.

Below is a list of supported devices which we found over at GreenPois0n.biz –

They include

- iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 and older
- iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 2G on iOS 4.1 and older
- iPad on iOS 3.2.2 and older

Don’t confuse this website with the official GreenPois0n site though, it appears to just be a clone but with more information for users, since the real site continues to show just a GreenPois0n logo.

We’ll give you a few reasons why both are entirely different.

We previously asked you what you were waiting for more between a jailbreak and unlock, and the results were clearly divided. We’ve been listening to what you have been saying about the imminent release of GreenPois0n, and it looks like most of you are just waiting to jailbreak the device first, rather than pursue an unlocking method.

If you didnt know, jailbreaking the device will then allow you to run apps that are not available on the Apple App Store, using an App store created specifically for jailbroken devices – It’s called Cydia. A jailbroken device will also allow you to run various tweaks and mods, such as theme customization and enabling support for juicy features for free, like internet tethering – which definitely wouldn’t happen on the official iOS software.

The ability to run 3rd-party applications is a good enough reason to jailbreak for most, but others just like the freedom that the method brings, rather than use their iPhone under the strict control of Apple, and let’s face it – they do like to be in control these days.

If you really wanted to, you could just unlock your device straight away by paying to do so, but we’re guessing that most of you are waiting for the iPhone Dev-Team to come up with a free method of unlocking on iOS 4.1 for the iPhone 4. If you are one of these people, then you will have to wait for GreenPois0n to release first.
