We recently brought you news of Intel’s intentions to have success in the tablet market, and the use of their Oak Trail chips in those devices. Today we have news of the company’s latest series of processors, codenamed Ivy Bridge.

These next-generation chipsets will bring users more efficiency and power as well as 22-nanometer 3D tri-gate transistor technology on an even smaller processor. They were first announced last month and were expected to be released within the first six months of next year.

According to an article at 9To5Mac who have obtained some leaked information of an Intel roadmap it seems the company intend on releasing these processors nearer the first quarter of next year, probably March or April time in 2012. The later timeframe means computers like MacBooks and iMacs will miss out on the technology.

Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors use 50% less power and promise a 37% increase in performance compared to the current Sandy Bridge processors, despite being similar in design. Check out the full article for more details and to see the roadmap by clicking the link above.

Are you looking forward to the Ivy Bridge processors from Intel?

Latest MacBook Air rumors suggest that Apple’s slim laptop could be about to take on a whole new shape – and we do not mean in design. You may remember that we reported that Apple might be considering using their A5 chip in the Air instead of the Intel Sandy Bridge, which is considered to be the consumer’s choice.

If we were to put the two into a benchmark shootout, then chances are Intel’s processor would win, so what other benefits could there be for Apple to even consider it? The first could be battery, as the A5 in theory should be able to offer a much longer battery life. However, those of you with a MacBook Air already enjoy a decent battery life, and would rather have performance.

Maybe Apple has been able to make changes to their operating system (which we will talk about in detail in another post) to greatly reduce the power needed, along with improving overall performance? Whatever they have up their sleeves we will be the last to know.

Maybe Apple is thinking long-term and will be going into more cloud and app integration with the next MBA? We know what we would prefer; if Apple were to go down the A5 route, then they will have to reconsider how they define the MacBook Air.

There are reports that Dell are preparing to launch a new range of laptops in the next few weeks, and the new ultrathin laptop will take on the MacBook Air.

Brooke Crothers over at Cnet is reporting that sources who claim to be close to the company, have said the new line will be designed similar to the now extinct Adamo range of laptops. The new model which is yet to have a confirmed name will debut with a 15.6 inch model, and be the slimmest laptop in the class.

It is also claimed that the new line of laptops will be powered by Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, and also have a HD display. They will also be made from special materials, and the best bit is they will be available for under $1,000.

The new line will be designed to look the part but also deliver on performance, unlike the previous effort from Dell the Adamo. The source is claiming that the new line “is not a one-time product”, and Dell is going to be fully committed to the range.

The first model will come in above the current MacBook Air range, but further models in various sizes are planned. This is not the first time the company has brought out a slim laptop with a large screen; the Dell Latitude Z600 was introduced back in 2009.

Can Dell compete with Apple’s range of MacBook Airs?

Last month we told you of a rumor that the latest version of Apple’s iMac was on route to the US. Today we have news that current iMac stock is low ahead of a possible refresh. This is similar to what happened recently before the release of the iPad 2 and MacBook Pro update.

Mark Gurman from 9 to 5 Mac is reporting that they have been told by three sources in different countries, that iMac supplies are running low. These include an Asian country and the US. They have been supplied with a screen shot that shows all four iMac models are “constrained”, and there is no date for any new shipments.

Sources in the US have also stated that iMac deliveries are also very tight, and it isn’t restricted to just iMacs, as components are also constrained. The hardest to get hold of at the moment are hard drives and graphics chips. This could also point to an iMac refresh shortly.

We have spoken before that the next iMacs could have Sandy Bridge processors, and the new Thunderbolt technology as part of the refresh. Some of our readers have commented on a wider choice of screen sizes would also be a nice option to have with the next iMac.

Are you waiting for any refresh before buying an iMac?

If you like you’re gaming on the go and need a powerful laptop, Asus have just updated their Lamborghini VX7 gaming laptop.

Melanie Pinola over at PCWorld is reporting the already powerful laptops now have the benefit of the latest Sandy Bridge processor; this makes the VX7 the company’s most powerful laptop so far.

The VX7 has similar exotic styling of the Italian supercars, where you will find leather trim, rear taillights, classic Lamborghini roar on startup, are just some of the nice design touches on the laptop.

Other performance features of the VX7 include a massive 3GB of video memory with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 460M graphics card. There is also up to 16GB of DDR3 memory and the quick USB 3, and of course the new Intel Core i7 quad-core 2.0 GHz processor.

There are also some customization options for customers, which include the 15.6-inch display which can come in either 1366-by-768 HD 3D or 1920-by-1080 HD. Two drives can be added in different combinations for up to 1.5TB of storage. Blu-ray and DVD writers and readers are also available as an option.

If you like the look of the Asus Lamborghini X7 it can be pre-ordered for a cool $2,269. What do you think of the Lamborghini VX7?

The Intel Sandy Bridge flaw has lead to a recall and the cost is said to be around $1 billion. This has now led to a delay in shipments, and will surly have a knock-on effect throughout the market? The delay in new models is likely to last at least three months, and could falter PC growth, which as we know needs all the help it can get at the moment.

The Guardian reports that Sandy Bridge was launched in January and what was thought to be a great design has now turned into a disaster for Intel. Some of us would have not noticed the flaws right away, but the chipmaker said that they would have appeared over time, which would have affected how it connects to DVD and hard drives.

As mentioned above the PC industry has already seen a downturn in growth, and with 500 models now facing production issues we could see a few smaller companies having real hardships. We do not know what they will do about this, maybe that might even consider a shift to AMD? However, a move like this is not as easy as one would assume.

An issue like this does not come around very often, but when it does it is considered to be a complete embarrassment. We say this because you have to wonder how such a flaw can happen in the first place? However, this is not the first time that such a thing happens, and will not be the last time either. Here is a list of all affected models, we just hope that the issue is sorted so that Sandy Bridge can be included in the MacBook Air 2011 refresh.

Mark from AppleBitch is reporting that the next version of Apple’s iMac could be available around the end of April, or at the beginning of May. This follows a Tweet by Cnets Brian Tong in which he claims that reliable sources have revealed to him that new iMacs are “en route by ocean to U.S”. There are no major changes planned but it would include Sandy Bridge processors, and a Thunderbolt port.

The iMac last had an update about nine months ago so some changes are due at anytime. We have now seen the MacBook Pro range recently updated, so we now wait to see what happens with the iMac range. We recently asked our readers what they would like to have in the next iMacs, and we had some asking for more screen sizes and of course the Sandy Bridge processors.

There has also been talk of a bigger push for SSD storage in the iMac; while available as an option it is quite expensive. Stock levels of the current range of iMacs are also thought to be running low further fueling the idea a refresh is close.

Are you waiting for any update before buying a new iMac?

We have reported before that Apple may be installing Intel’s Sandy Bridge chip inside its MacBook Air’s sometime this year. Not to be out done Dell could be announcing the same technology in its laptops and desktops some time soon.

According to an article on The Inquirer by Asavin Wattanajantra, Lionel Menchaca Dells chief blogger has said the company plans to bring a range of new systems to the market in the next six weeks.

One which catches the eye is a really thin Inspiron laptop which will be available in April. There has been talk that this will be part of the XPS range, which could go up against the MacBook Air.

There will be other laptops in the Inspiron range which will be available from next week; these are amongst Dell’s most popular products ranging from netbooks to desktop replacements. The Inspiron Duo was the last big Inspiron release we saw, which was the company’s netbook and tablet hybrid.

The Sandy Bridge chip technology will find its way into a range of business systems, which include Optiplex desktops and Latitude laptops. Also getting the processors will be Precision workstation laptops and desktops. This shows that Dell still sees the PC market as its bread and butter, despite moving into smartphone and tablet markets.

Will you consider any of Dell’s new laptops?
