Whenever we talk about Formula 1 we look at how the technology has been passed over from track to our roads, such as KERS. However, this time we have learned that there could be an Infiniti Sebastian Vettel RBR Edition. Red Bull Racing has a close relationship with the luxury Nissan brand, and the Japanese carmaker wants to have a much closer relationship.

This has got us thinking, as both RBR and Infiniti will be looking at this very carefully, as choosing the right model will be key to how popular the special edition version will be. Currently nothing is known about the deal, apart from the fact the 2010 F1 Champions will supply technical support. This will be a lot like the partnership that other F1 teams have had with carmakers in the past, such as Jordan with Mugen Honda and McLaren with Mercedes.

According to WorldCarFans the Vettel version is just a special edition version, and that there will be a completely new model. Going back a few years we would have laughed at this notion, but the energy drinks company who purchased the Jaguar Racing team has proven that you do not need to have a racing pedigree to make it in the sport.

Having said that, they do have some remarkable talent, and they will be using the likes of Adrian Newey to come up with some amazing design features to make this new model a success. Both companies will now be sitting down and deciding which is the best plan of action; do they go for a hatchback or saloon design.

The smart money would be on a hot-hatch with a few Red Bull logos here and there, as we all know how poplar the company is as a brand. I for one cannot wait until more news filters through, so watch this space.

We have heard cars described as many things before, but Sphinx-like for the 2011 Infiniti M56x is certainly a first for us. Although the car itself is a luxury sedan, beneath it hides a muscle car waiting to be unleashed, the only things that gives it away are those bulging front wings. The car reminds us a little of Dwane “The Rock” Johnson giving us the gun show.

Most cars like this are unable to pull it off, but the 2011 Infiniti M56x manages to keep both aspects apart from each other – that is until you put your right foot to the floor and nail it. The new sedan produces 420 horsepower from its 5.6-liter, V8 engine, and thanks to an all-wheel drive system, nasty surprises are kept at bay.

What is so great about the new Infiniti M56x is how the car is just as happy giving you and your family a smooth and quiet drive; the V8 engine plays a major part in that. Do not expect a great return in fuel, 16 mpg/city and 23 mpg/highway, but when you consider how much power is under that hood, things do not seem all that bad after all.

There are a few upgrades that you can go for, but the ultimate would be the electronic technology package, which will cost $3,000. However, you will never need anything else from the array of extras that you get. More of which is explained over at BostonHerald.

For those looking for even more, then you can opt for the deluxe touring package at a cost of $3,800. One of the main features of this is the 16-speaker Bose system. The only problem with this is, the sound will drown out the sweet sound from the monster that hides beneath the hood.

What are your first thoughts on the 2011 Infiniti M56x?

Things may be going well for the Nissan Leaf and its crash test scores, but it is a different story when it comes to Nissan’s recall list for April 2011....

Things may be going well for the Nissan Leaf and its crash test scores, but it is a different story when it comes to Nissan’s recall list for April 2011. It seems that the Japanese automaker has to recall 271,000 Infiniti QX4′s & Pathfinder models due to an issue with the steering.

According to a Reuters Report, the affected models were as follows: 225,650 Pathfinders that were built between 1996-2004 and 45,330 Infiniti QX4’s built from 1997-2003. The recall only affects those in North America and Canada, as it has been determined that road salt could cause these vehicles to lose their steering.

Nissan has reason to believe that both road salt and melted snow from these cold states could build up and lead to corrosion, and in some cases lead to the vehicle crashing. For those of you who have one of these affected models, Nissan will be in touch in May, and the issue will be fixed at no cost to you.

We have to wonder what else can go wrong for Japan and their automakers? First we had all the recalls from Toyota and Honda, and then we had the Earthquake and Tsunami and issues with supplies and production. Now we have this fresh load of recalls. However, it is not just the auto industry affected by the disaster, the video game and consumer electronics industry has also been hit hard.

More and more automakers are now jumping on the green bandwagon, and are trying to make these fuel-efficient cars more affordable, which is why we were very interested with the price for 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid. The Japanese carmaker has announced that the price for this sedan will start at $53,700.

Infiniti has also made its EPA rating public, the M Hybrid is said to achieve 32mpg highway and 27mpg city. The combined EPA rating of 29mpg certainly seems a little low to us, but when you take into consideration that the car has a 3.5-liter V6 and can produce 350bhp, things do not seem that bad after all.

Autoblog, who has an image gallery of the new car makes a point about there not being too many cars on the road that offer this amount of luxury and power, as well as giving you a good return on fuel-economy. According to a press release the new 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid goes on sale on March 16th, 2011.

IBTimes has been looking at why the new sedan has been priced so high, and they say it is because the likes of Infiniti and other carmakers hope to make green vehicles such as hybrids more appealing to the “elite customer base.” It is said that the new Infiniti M Hybrid is able to not only compete with Rolls Royce but Porsche as well.

We cannot say how this new sedan compares with the luxury or performance brand of cars, only time will tell. However, looking at the performance figures from the official Infiniti website and that price tag, it’s not hard to understand the reasoning.

Do you think that the new 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid will be able to compete with the likes of Porsche and Rolls Royce?

We seem to be covering more and more auto recalls of late; so it comes as no surprise that there could be yet another planned. The NHTSA is reported to be looking into two cases involving the Infiniti QX4 and Nissan Pathfinder SUV – although they are technically to do with the same issue – as they have an issue with corrosion. The Ford Windstar Minivan has also recently suffered from a corrosion issue, which you can read more about in our recent article.

The models affected by this issue are the Infiniti QX4 1997 to 2003 models and the Nissan Pathfinder 1996 to 2004. The corrosion affects the front strut tower on the driver’s side, but we would like to stress that this is only in some cases. Autoblog learned from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that there have been 38 reports of this issue.

The report also states that 18 vehicles suffered from a problem with their steering because of the corrosion, which could be very worrying for those who currently have one of the suspected faulty vehicles. What we find more worrying though is how five of these affected cases lost their steering altogether due to the “shaft” or “column” breaking.

The Detroit News adds that Nissan is not aware of injuries that might have been a result of this problem, but we are certain that they are now keeping a watchful eye and carrying out tests of their own. The investigation that started yesterday first came to light last month – so we can expect to here a decision on a recall call sooner rather than later.

Infiniti have just officially announced an even more high performance version of its G Coupe. Named the IPL G Coupe the model is likely to be the start of many models of its kind across the Infinitis range.

Colum Wood of Autoguide.com is reporting in an article that the upgrades to the G include the 3.7-liter V6 engine which has been retuned and had a high-flow exhaust added which will push the power up to 348-hp. The torque also goes up to 276ft-lbs, the new figures are not massive with eighteen more horsepower and six more ft-lbs of torque.

Other modifications include nineteen inch wheels and sport brakes with a limited slip differential. A unique aero kit, as well as IPL badging for a time of 14.7:1. The suspension has been retuned; a special IPL engine cover and back-up camera have been added. The IPL initials stand for Intiniti Performance Line.

According to a report from AutoBlog the first attempt by Infiniti for its version of Nissan’s Leaf electric vehicle were rejected. It was said that the designs were too similar to the original standard Leaf.

The company are looking for a more upmarket electric vehicle with styling to match Infiniti’s current product range. It was also reported that the vice president of Infiniti in North America, Ben Poore said that the original design problems were behind them now, and the final three or four designs are to be a uniquely Infiniti product. Mr Poore did say that the new car must perform well with adequate acceleration to satisfy their customers.

It is not known yet how much the new Infiniti version of the Nissan Leaf is going to cost, but with upgraded interiors and more luxurious fittings the price will definitely exceed the Leaf’s $25,000 price tag. So now we just have to wait for the release date, we will keep you posted.
