PS3 In-game XMB demonstration

in-game-XMB-demo

A new video has been released over on the official PS3 blog which gives us all a detailed look at the long awaited in-game XMB that is due to be released in the upcoming 2.40 firmware.

Eric Lempel who is the director for the PSN, shows us how he is able to navigate the XMB whilst having GT5:P paused in the background. It all looks very slick as he browses through all of the menus in the XMB, while taking time to surf through his messages. It seems to be the update all PS3 fans have been waiting for, as a PS3 owner myself, I had often found it very frustrating to have to go out of game to read a message whilst playing COD4 online, this update looks to have solved that problem completely, which will please a lot of you I’m sure.

He also demonstrates the ability to play your own music from the hard-drive whilst in game, another feature that has been on the top of some of your wish-lists. He did not go into detail on ‘trophies’ which is another new feature due to be on the 2.40 firmware, but as you can see in the video, there is already an icon for it, and another video is due to be released with more information on this.

This new firmware is looking very impressive indeed, check out the full video below.. hopefully it isn’t too long before we get our hands on the new firmware ourselves, stay tuned to hear more information.

Sony PS3 Update 2.36: Playstation 3 getting ready for in-game XMB

Earlier this week, the guys over at PS3 daily informed us that rumours were surfacing that a new Playstation 3 firmware was imminent. It turns out that the speculation was true, as firmware v.2.36 has now been officially released and is available for download.

The current update is a minor one, only designed to improve system security and improve stability for a range of titles. More importantly though, it appears that firmware 2.40 is on the horizon and finally news that the Playstation 3 is getting ready for in-game XMB, a feature that many of you gamers out there have been waiting to get your hands on. It is unclear yet what stability issues have been fixed yet, as I know a lot of you have been having a few problems with bugs in GTA IV, and we are unaware yet, as to if this update has made any changes to MGS4, most notably interaction with the in-game iPod perhaps. Feel free to leave a comment if you have found any changes to your games as a result of this firmware update.

Also announced on the official PS3 blog, is the addition of ‘trophies’ which will be come on the 2.40 update. Little information is known on this but Sony have stated, “The update will also include “trophies,” an exciting new feature that we’ll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements.”

I can imagine these trophies to be some sort of award system as compared to the Xbox 360’s gamer points. It certainly does look very positive for the PS3 over the next few weeks, it will be interesting to find out just how the in-game XMB functions, and how smoothly it will interact with it’s games, stay tuned to find out more news on this.

In-game xmb/home: where is it in Sony PS3 update v2.17

Sony PS3 update v2.17
Well it seems as if the new Sony PS3 Firmware Update 2.17 has let a few of us gamers down. This update only gave us some minor changes, however what we was looking for was In-game xmb/home, oh better luck with the next firmware update then.

Oh well I guess In-game xmb will come when it is good and ready, however let us hope that Sony will give us yet more stability patches as they are needed. The Sony PS3 Firmware Update 2.17 is one that I think will be forgotten quickly.
