One release saga may now be over as the Verizon Galaxy Nexus smartphone is finally available to buy, but for consumers looking to pick up the best tablet on the market, one is still very much ongoing in relation to the highly sought after ASUS Transformer Prime.

If you have ordered one, you’ll know that the device is still not available for shipping, with frustrated customers having to deal with delays and numerous shipping date changes. Since the device became available to pre-order in the US, consumers have been receiving all sorts of shipping dates from retailers, with Amazon in particular giving customers the run around with a collection of different dates.

The good news, is that Amazon are aware of the situation and have offered a goodwill gesture of a free $10 gift card in apology for the continuous shipping delays. Two examples of dates that customers have been getting in emails are December 20 and December 22. While this obviously isnt ideal, here’s a statement from the retailer in reference to the free $10 gift cards that they are handing out, as detailed by Droid-Life.

”We wanted to let you know your order for Transformer TF201-B1-GR (10.1-Inch Screen) Tablet was inadvertently canceled by our system. We’re very sorry about this. If you’d still like to purchase Transformer TF201-B1-GR (10.1-Inch Screen) Tablet, you may pre-order again after 12:00 a.m. PST December 19th at the following link:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0067PLM5E

To make up for any inconvenience, we’ll be sending you a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card code in the next few days via e-mail.”

We’re not sure if other retailers are offering gift cards as a way of saying sorry for the delay, but we’re sure consumers won’t mind waiting a few more days for the elusive Transformer Prime. Unfortunately though, we’ve also seen some cases where consumers are being told that their Transformer Prime will not ship until after Christmas, which is obviously a big blow.

If you have ordered a device, what is the earliest delivery date that you have been told? Are you starting to get frustrated, or can you understand the delays for such an in-demand device?

If you picked up a Droid RAZR handset from Verizon recently, we have some news for you now which is set to put a smile on your face for sure. As you know, the handset ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread officially, but it has now been confirmed that the device has received its first unofficial taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

At the moment, there’s still no indication when the Droid RAZR will be receiving an official update to Ice Cream Sandwich, the same can be said for any other Android device other than the Galaxy Nexus that has confirmed to be getting an update – see a device list here.

Now though, it looks like those clever Android developers will once again ensure that the owners will get a taste of Google’s brand new software, months before Verizon and Motorola even begin to think about providing an official update.

This ICS port for the Droid RAZR has been developed by DroidTh3ory, who has provided a video and a few screenshots as evidence which you can check out over at BriefMobile. Since the feat has only just been achieved, there’s no public download available yet, but you can be assured that it is coming soon and much sooner than an official update as mentioned above.

This is no ordinary custom ROM though, as we’re hearing that this version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Droid RAZR can also be dual booted with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so users can go from one firmware to another should they desire. At the moment, the build is far from finalized though, with key features such as networking not working.

Hopefully it wont be too long until we see this become available for download, as we imagine a lot of you are interested in getting hold of this. Check out the video below for a confirmation of Android 4.0 running on the Droid RAZR.

Will you pick this up as soon as it is available, or are you willing to wait for an official update which may not come until Q2 2012?

We have some interesting news for those of you who enjoy finding out about hidden features of a particular mobile OS. In this case, it looks like Google has tucked away a collection of Ice Cream Sandwich ‘secrets’, one of which has just been discovered.

This discovery turns out to be a brand new screensaver mode called ‘Dreams’ which isn’t available in the standard wallpaper menus on the Galaxy Nexus, or any other device that is already rocking iCS 4.0, as reported from Android Police.

This Dreams screensaver has been captured on video which you can check out below, and there were some theories that this is another Ice Cream Sandwich ‘easter egg’ that has been found, but it definitely belongs in the hidden features category since you can even interact with the screensaver once you get it working.

If you have the GSM Galaxy Nexus, you’ll need to install the Launcher Pro app which will allow you to place Activity shortcuts on your homescreen. After you’ve done this, find the Rocket Launcher app and fire it up on the homescreen and then the new screensaver should start, as seen in the video below. Once the animation is running you can click on apps that fly past you. If you click once the icons will slow down allowing you to see more clearly which apps are running past. You can actually launch apps from this screensaver which is pretty cool, although this method will probably eat into your battery life a little.

If you already have access to Ice Cream Sandwich, try it out now yourself and let us know if it worked for you. This is a nice little addition by Google, and we’re surprised that it hasn’t been noticed sooner. Will this be your new method of launching apps off the homescreen as soon as you pick up a 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus from Verizon?

Just hours after informing you about an unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Fascinate, it now looks like Droid Incredible 2 owners are going to be receiving the same treatment, as a new build is now available to download at your discretion.

Also like the Fascinate, this appears to be a very stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich as well meaning that those of you in possession of a rooted Droid Incredible 2 should definitely give this a try out.

With Android developers working hard at providing unofficial updates for the community, it makes you wonder if manufacturers are really doing the best job they can when it comes to official software updates. If you have an untouched Droid Incredible 2, then you are most likely to be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread after HTC issued an update earlier this year. However, the chances of the handset getting an official update to ICS 4.0 is probably pretty slim, as HTC opt to focus on newer handsets, which is why efforts like this from ProTekk and the RootsWiki forums are worth their weight in gold.

As for the update itself, you’ll be pleased to know that most of the main functions of the phone work as normal, this includes things like making calls, sending SMS messages, 3G and WiFi data, and there’s no problems with sound or the SD card either. However there’s a few features that don’t work according to ProTekk and these include the camera, Bluetooth, GPS and live wallpapers. On the plus side, the things that don’t work may get enabled in a future version of this ICS build, so don’t worry about these functions not working forever as that isn’t the case.

If you have a Droid Incredible 2 and want to try this out, you’ll find the download links and instructions here. Let us know how you get on and your reaction to this unexpected entry into Google’s latest mobile OS.

The unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich update bandwagon is showing no signs of slowing down and after informing you about recent ports for the ASUS Transformer and HTC G1 amongst other handsets, we can now reveal that the ancient Samsung Fascinate is also joining in on the Android 4.0 fun.

We’re pleased to say that this isn’t an alpha build of Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s the real deal. You may be surprised to hear that it runs very nicely on the Samsung Fascinate, and we’ve found a video to show you which gives you an exact idea of the type of performance the Fascinate can handle when running the unofficial build.

Also pleasing is the fact that all the main functions of the phone appear to work with no problems. By this we’re talking about 3G data, WiFi, making calls, browsing the internet, sending text messages, taking pictures and so on – everything works great.

This ROM has been created by JT1134 and if you own a Fascinate and are interested in trying this out yourself, you’ll find the download links as well as steps to install over at RootzWiki here. Make sure you download the latest version of the ROM as the creator has already updated the build enabling even more functions of the phone. As always, you should only install this if you have previous experience running unofficial software on your handset, and you’ll need to have a rooted Fascinate first of course to try this out.

Once again, this proves that older handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S can run Ice Cream Sandwich with no major problems. We doubt Samsung will release an official Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Fascinate since they’ll want customers to purchase the Galaxy S II or Galaxy Nexus. For those of you who have a Nexus One and are still unhappy about the fact that you won’t get an official update, seeing ICS 4.0 run perfectly fine on the Fascinate should give you plenty of hope that a build will come your way soon.

If you plan to install this, let us know how you get on. On a side note, are you a little concerned that older handsets clearly can run Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 but only a few Android handsets have been given information regarding an official update?

We have a great story to tell Android fans now, as we can tell you that the HTC G1 smartphone, yes that old battleaxe, has just received a working port to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Pretty incredible and beyond belief isnt it?

We’re not making this up either, as the person responsible for the port has provided a video showing the HTC G1 running Google’s latest Android update. Just for those that are not aware, the HTC G1 was released all the way back in 2008 with Android 1.0 and despite the legendary device just having a 528 MHz processor and 128MB of RAM, cunning developers have managed to get Android 4.0 running on the device.

Unsurprisingly, the guys over at XDA Developer Forums are the ones to thank for this port, more specifically jcarrz1 and his team, according to Phandroid. Obviously the port is far from perfect, and just about everything takes a good while to load up. However, it is the principle of getting this port to work on such an old Android device here that is the big deal and it does make you wonder when manufacturers give excuses about hardware restraints being the primary reason for lack of software updates – We’re looking at your Nexus One handset Google.

If you remember the HTC G1 running Android 1.0 three years ago, we recommend you check out the video below for a surprise. If anything, this video alone tells us that the likes of the Nexus One can obviously run Ice Cream Sandwich, but obviously at what performance level remains to be seen. Hopefully jcarrz1 and his team will start working their way through the list of old Android handsets and really put Google and other manufacturers to shame.

What are your thoughts on this seeing Ice Cream Sandwich run on a three year old device?

We have some fantastic news for consumers in the US who are hoping to get their hands on the upcoming ASUS Transformer Prime tablet / laptop. The powerhouse device is now up for pre-order, although we still don’t have a release date yet.

You can bet that a date is coming very soon though, and the fact that you can now pre-order the device will be enough to get consumers very excited indeed. Don’t forget that the Transformer Prime is the first mobile device in the world to run on a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, and it will also come with an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of the year as well – it ships with 3.2 Honeycomb out of the box.

Various retailers have the Transformer Prime up for pre-order, one of them was Amazon, but they appear to be sold out. Best Buy however are still taking pre-orders and you’ll see that the price is a very reasonable $500 for the 32 GB version of the device in Amethyst Grey color. The other color option just to let you know is Champagne Gold.

If you need a quick refresh of other specs, we won’t hesistate to remind you that this beast packs a 10.1-inch WXGA IPS+ Gorilla Glass display, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel rear camera with 1.2MP front camera, a USB 2.0 port, Mini-HDMI port and an SD card reader. If you want to splash out on the 64GB version, you’ll have to pay $100 extra bringing the price to $600. Additionally, the much-hyped dock accessory to turn the Prime into a fully fledged laptop will set you back a further $150.

All we need now of course is a solid release date for the device, although if you choose to pre-order now, you’ll probably get varied shipping estimation dates from your retailer, as some are saying you’ll get it before Christmas, and others afterwards. If you have pre-ordered a Transformer Prime already, put your excitement aside for a minute and let us know what date you have been given. On a side note, are you secretly worried that Lenovo’s Android 4.0 tablet may turn out to be more impressive?

We have some good news for those of you who do not plan on getting the Galaxy Nexus smartphone, but would still like to have a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 on your current handset. The official keyboard taken from ICS has now popped up as a separate download and it is available in beta format right now.

Best of all, we’re hearing that this theoretically works on any Android handset running 2.2 Froyo, meaning basically everyone can this a go. Even better is the fact that you don’t even need a rooted handset to get this working either, just head to the Android Market now and that’s it.

The app is simply called ‘Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard’ and has been developed by JohnTanmi, as reported from Droid-Life. It is in beta format at the moment and comes in at a 3.7MB download. If you have any gripes with your keyboard option on your current Android handset, you should definitely give this new app a go – it is free of course.

Based on feedback we’ve already read, we can confirm that it works perfectly on a whole host of Android handsets. These include the Nexus One, Samsung Infuse, HTC Thunderbolt, Motorola Droid X, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC EVO 3D and probably a lot more.

However, due to the screen layout of some Android phones, it looks like this app has a problem displaying the lower part of the Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard and thus unables users to select certain keys, like the space bar for example. Handsets that run into this problem so far include the Droid Eris, the LG Optimus S and the LG Optimus V.

If you have installed this application on your handset, let us know if it works perfectly, or if you’re running into similar problems like the ones mentioned above. Please state your model so other users do not waste their time downloading (like you did). Hopefully we’ll have another juicy serving of Ice Cream Sandwich to tell you about soon.

Download the Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard here.

We knew it wouldn’t be too long until some clever individuals managed to get a working port of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich running on the still-popular Samsung Galaxy S II handset. The feat has now been achieved and is available to download now at your own risk.

Before you get excited, we do however recommend that you hold off from updating your handset to ICS, as it looks like this build is pretty unstable for the time being. It is though refreshing to see that it is possible to get ICS running on the Samsung Galaxy S II and a video we have to show you below gives evidence of this.

In case you haven’t heard, Samsung has already confirmed that the device will get an official update to ICS 4.0 at some point in the future, but as consumers are very aware, this could take up to months for this to actually happen.

At the moment, we understand that key features of the device are not working properly after ICS has been installed on the device – these include things like WiFi, sound, data and the camera. The good news though, is that a more stable build is expected at any time, and you can keep updated with progress on a new build by reading this Twitter page here, courtesy of xplodwild.

If you understand the risks and still want to try this out on your rooted Samsung Galaxy S II, you can find the download links, as well as a tutorial on how to get this working over at RedmondPie here. Again though, we just see the positives of this in the fact that it is workable on the Samsung Galaxy S II, we still don’t recommend you download this until a new build is out.

If you are brave enough to give this a go, let us know how you get on and if you run into any problems during or after installation.

As US consumers still wait to find out when the infamous Galaxy Nexus smartphone will arrive at their shores after seeing a Europe release for the device last week, one aspect that may have been overlooked is the fact that the Galaxy Nexus won’t ship with Flash support.

For those of you that are unaware, Adobe has stopped development on all of their mobile Flash applications for the time being, which means that consumers who opt for Google’s flagship Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 handset will not be able to enjoy Flash straight out of the box.

If you were thinking that you could just download an older version of Flash, think again as we understand that it won’t be compatible with Ice Cream Sandwich so you’ll have to live without Flash full stop until Adobe decides to release an app. Adobe are apparently keen on shifting their attentions to HTML5 primarily, but according to Google there may still be hope for a version of Flash for ICS in the near future.

Here’s a brief statement that they released to Slashgear regarding the issue.

”Flash hasn’t been released for ICS yet so as far as we know, Adobe will support Flash for ICS.”

The big question on our minds though obviously: Is the lack of Flash support on the Galaxy Nexus a huge deal for consumers? It may be seen as a big blow since one of the advantages that Android has over iOS is proper Flash support. Hearing that Google’s own developer phone will not support Flash may be a big shock to some consumers who had taken it for granted as one of the features included with the phone.

To the average consumer who is just looking to pick up the latest and greatest Android handset, this will probably be irrelevant as the lack of Flash support definitely isn’t the end of the world. If you are a hardcore Android fan though and have become used to using Flash content regularly on previous Android handsets, this bit of news will be harder to stomach for sure.

How high do you value Flash support on Android? Are you surprised that the Galaxy Nexus won’t support it or is it not a big deal for you?
