Back in January we reported that the 2011 Hyundai Sonata was voted the safest car, along with a host of others. However, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance voted the Hyundai Sonata as one of the best family cars. Two awards must mean that the car has something special, and with 35 miles per gallon on the highway, we have to wonder what makes it that good?

There are many other cars on the road that offer greater fuel-efficiency. However, PRLog does say that the interior and the range of engines are more than what rivals offer. The best of the lineup seems to be the Sonata SE 2.0T, with its turbocharded engine, and the great part is that it cost less than $35,000.

You have to be amazed at just how much Hyundai packs into their 2011 Sonata – considering its low price tag. You know that you can feel safe with its traction control, six airbags, as well as it performing well in both side and rear crash test. If you were ever to roll the car, then you can feel safe in the knowledge that the roof scored highly on this part of the tests as well.

If you are looking for a family car and are on a tight budget, then you cannot go wrong with the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. If you did not know the make of vehicle, then you would be forgiven for thinking that you were in something with a higher price tag – maybe even something German.

It has been another week where we have seen some big recalls affecting consumers again, so we thought we would do a quick recap on the items that have been in the news.

The biggest recall was the massive one by Fisher Price, which involved over ten million children’s toys in the US. There are around 7 million Trikes and Tough Trikes affected in the recall, and 950,000 high chairs that include Close to Me, Healthy Care, and Clean chairs.

A couple of days ago we told you about BMW who are recalling over 350,000 cars due to a braking problem. The models affected included the popular series 5, 6, and 7 cars with V8 and V12 engines, and the BMW Rolls Royce made between July 2001 and November 2009.

We have also told about South Korea’s largest car manufacturer Hyundai recalling about 140,000 Sonata models due to a problem with a faulty steering column.

Have you been affected by any of these recalls?

A few days ago Hyundai issued a recall for the 2011 Sonata, we reported that 140,000 vehicles are affected by this recall. There are thousands of Sonata drivers out there who are worried that their vehicle is affected by this latest recall, such as drivers in Jordan.

We can now put those owners minds at rest, as Zawya reports that it is only those cars that were built in the Alabama plant in the U.S. that are affected. The reason for this is because the models in Jordan are built in South Korea.

There are currently 500 2011 Hyundai Sonata’s in Jordan, so none will have the steering problem – so you can put your mind at rest.

We reported yesterday that there is a simple fix for the problem, as it would only take about an hour or so to fix. The worrying this is, this problem was known months ago and has taken this long for the Hyundai to implement a recall.

We first reported to you yesterday about the Hyundai Sonata recall over a possible improperly assembled steering column, and the problem was known about a few months ago. The cost of the recall could be quite a cheap one for the carmaker.

According to David Sarno of the Los Angeles Times, Hyundai only know of less than ten problems reported by owners concerning the steering on the new Sonata. Towards the end of August The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating the issue after some owners reported that they had lost the ability to steer the cars.

A spokesman for the company – Jim Trainor – said that the loss of steering was a worst-case scenario for the defect. Mainly owners were reporting of a “looseness”, or heard a sound when turning, and were on cars which had covered less than 1,000 miles.

The actual repair is quite a simple one if needed, the steering is inspected to see if the bolt is loose or threaded improperly, and Trainor said it may take as long as an hour, and added “As far as recall costs go, this would be toward the lower end.” The recall concerns Sonatas made between December 11 2009, and September 10 2010.

We have more details on the recall to Hyundai’s popular Sonata model now, as we have the views from a analyst in South Korea, where the car giant is based. Should the company now expect a fast drop in sales due to the recall?

According to this article from Business Week, Hyundai may escape from a public backlash, as Yim Eun Young, a Seoul-based analyst at Dongbu Securities Co explains the possible outcomes that Toyota could face as a result of this recall.

Here is what he had to say: “It’s a recall of Hyundai’s flagship model, so it sounds negative. Still, I expect a limited negative impact to the sales of Sonata in the U.S. since it’s a voluntary recall. ”

At the moment, no accidents or injuries have been reported due to the steering problems, and the recall is due to start in October. Read the full story over at BW and let us know your thoughts on it.

Earlier today we reported to you yet another recall, this time involving the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. If this was not frustrating enough for owners, then the fact that these problems with the steering were highlighted months ago will just add salt to the wounds.

The recall affects about 140,000 Sonata models, which in fact is the Korean carmakers best selling model, so getting the issue fixed will be a high priority. According to one owner who had only had the car for a few weeks, he found that the car was pulling to one side, which he then had to take back to the dealer.

After an inspection they found that the wheels needed a re-alignment. However, after just one more week the car was back in again with the same issue. Instead of having the vehicle for three days like the first time, they kept the vehicle in for two weeks.

This incident was written on the Hyundai Forum back in April, and they could never solve the issue. It has taken the carmaker months to recognize this as a series issue, and hopefully the recall will be able to fix the steering issue for not only the owner above, but the other 140,000 or so owners as well.

Have you been affected by this 2011 Hyundai Sonata recall?

We seem to be getting a lot of car recalls lately with recent ones for Honda, General Motors, and even Bentley. Today we have a new one to report to you as Hyundai is recalling around 140,000 Sonata models in the US.

According to the BBC News South Korea’s biggest car manufacturer is recalling the vehicles due to steering concerns. The recall is said to be just a precaution, and no incidents or accidents have been reported so far.

The Sonata is the car maker’s biggest selling model in the US accounting for 35% of Hyundai sales. The recall is for Sonata models manufactured since December 2009. The problem may lead to a loss or reduced steering, and the recall has been initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Owners should start getting recall notices in October, or they can contact Hyundai Customer Assistance on 1-800-633-5151.

Have you got a Hyundai Sonata affected by the recall?
