Sapphire has recently unveiled a new Mini PC which will be a great solution for anyone who is looking to buy a HTPC in 2011, this is the Sapphire Edge HD2 Mini PC and today we have information regarding its technical specifications and features.

The Edge HD2 features an Intel Atom D525 (1.8GHz) processor, 2GB DDR3-800 RAM, a 320GB SATA HDD (2.5-inch) and nVidia ION2 graphics with 512MB RAM, this GPU allows support for full HD graphical output (1920×1080). Other specs worth mentioning include its Ethernet port (10,100,1000 Mbps), WiFi b/g/n and the choice of either Windows 7 or FREE DOS. In terms of outputs there is 1 x VGA and 1 x HDMI port, there are also 4 x USB 2.0 ports.

Below we have embedded a few photos of the Edge HD2, as you can see it has its own stand, however there is also a VESA mount available which will allow you to fix the Mini PC to the rear of your monitor. Currently we are unsure as to whether or not this mount comes with the Edge HD2 as standard of whether it has to be purchased separately, we can however confirm that you get a HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI adapter as standard.

As you can see from the pictures the Mini PC is very small, it measures in at 193 x 148 x 22 mm and weighs just 530g, to put this into context the latest Mac mini measures in at 197 x 197 x 36 mm and weighs 1.37kg. Obviously in terms of technical specs you can’t really compare these devices side-by-side, however it would be fair to say that the Edge HD2 is smaller and much lighter than the Mac mini, but let’s not forget that Sappire’s mini PC has no optical drive).

You can see a press release over at SapphireTech.com, we are led to believe that in terms of power consumption the Edge 2 is 10 times less demanding than a typical desktop PC, it consumers less than 30W under load, which makes it one of the greenest PCs available.

In this day and age we want devices to be small, powerful and energy efficient, it has to be said that the Sapphire Edge HD2 Mini PC delivers on all of these fronts, however we do not yet know just how much it will cost, therefore we will have to keep you posted as we find out more.

How much do you think the Edge HD2 is worth?

Shuttle has recently unveiled some new barebones at Cebit 2011 which will be great choices if anyone is looking to built a HTPC or small form-factor PC in 2011, firstly we will look at the H7 Pro, the model number for this variant is SX58H7 Pro.

The H7 Pro supports Intel Core i7 processors thanks to its LGA 1366 socket and up to 16GB DDR-1333 (via two slots we presume), other tech specs worth mentioning include its Intel X58 chipset, 2 x PCIe X 16 2.0 slots, 1 x Mini-PCIe x 1 slot, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 8 x USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, 2 x SATA 6 Gbit/s and 2 x SATA 3 Gbit/s.

There are 2 x Gigabit LAN ports, 2 bays for 3.5-inch drives, 1 x 5.25-inch bay, a 500 WATT PSU and 8 channel HD audio, also it use a heatpipe cooling system, you can see full specs over at Engadget here.

As you probably guessed the casing design is not dissimilar to many other Shuttles we have seen in the past, we have embedded one photo of the H7 Pro below, however a whole gallery can also be seen here.

We do not know how much this barebone will sell for, however we would imagine that Shuttle will reveal this information soon, check Product-Reviews.net later today for full specs for the Shuttle H3 and XG41, both of which also showed up at Cebit 2011 today.
