A lot of eyes are on whether HTC will announce a collection of quad-core powered smartphones this year, but one HTC handset that we definitely know is coming and has garnered quite a following is the Ice Cream Sandwich-running HTC Ville.

This handset is pretty elusive at the moment, with only one or two leaks becoming public knowledge and not revealing too much in the meantime. Now though, we have the clearest leak on the device so far, as a video has been captured and released this week, showing the device in the wild but more importantly, revealing a semi-official list of hardware specifications.

We know that the device will be running the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich, but now we have a confirmation of some other specs that will be featured on the device. Firstly, the Ville will feature a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor as previously speculated, and it will be running on a 4.3-inch qHD display. Other specs include 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8 megapixel rear camera and the latest version of HTC Sense.

It’s also worth pointing out that at just 8mm thick, HTC are likely to market this as their thinnest smartphone ever and one of the thinnest phones on the market alongside the Motorola Droid RAZR. We have to say that the HTC Sense interface is looking fantastic here on the Ville, and we particularly love the animated wallpaper in the background on the home screen and the slick Sense gestures when moving through different menus.

So when will the HTC Ville be available? There’s no indication in the video of when this will be available, but we have a feeling that it may be one of the handsets on show at this month’s Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona. While we’re liking the HTC Sense effects here on the Ville, we have a feeling that some of you may not be too pleased that Google’s precious Ice Cream Sandwich experience has been tampered with. Let us know what you think of Sense below.

It has been a while since we last heard anything regarding the HTC Ville, but we’re pleased to say that we now have some fresh details to give you. The device could now be heading to T-Mobile and it could be T-Mobile’s first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

The last we heard of this mysterious handset was with an initial run-through of specs as well an image which was thought to be the first glance of how the HTC Ville will end up looking. We said at the time that the Ville name was just a codename, but it’s now January 2012 and we still see the Ville tag associated with the device.

So on to the update we have for you and it reveals that T-Mobile could add the HTC Ville to their 2012 lineup after an alleged roadmap revealing dates was obtained by TmoNews. Unfortunately the dates do not specifically mention the Ville but Pocketnow are on good authority that its coming to T-Mobile, and possible dates for its arrival could be February 15th or March 31st.

It is also worth mentioning about the HTC Zeta and HTC Edge, two quad-core powered smartphones that are thought to be coming soon. Both may well make an appearance at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in February so perhaps there may be a glimmer of hope that the March 31st date could apply to either the Zeta or Edge as well – that’s if T-Mobile aquire both handsets from HTC that is.

Back to the Ville though as it looks like it may be the handset out of the three to arrive first. What are your thoughts on the possibility of the device coming to T-Mobile? Just to remind you of specs, we’re looking at a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor, a 4.3-inch qHD display, an 8 megapixel camera and a thickness of 8mm.

Does it appeal to you, or is your focus firmly on a quad-core smartphone next?

Earlier this week we informed you that Sprint may be bringing a surprise to their customers at CES 2012 in the form of a 4G supported Samsung Galaxy Note. Now we have further exciting news regarding HTC and their highly anticipated quad-core smartphones.

It has been a while since we last heard any info on the possibility of HTC bringing quad-core powered smartphones to the market in 2012, but we’re pleased to say that we now have a small update to give you.

Unfortuntely, it doesn’t look like we will be seeing the rumored quad-core HTC Edge at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show, as a report published by the Commercial Times claims that the quad-core Tegra 3 processor that will feature on the device is not quite ready to be shown on smartphones yet. However, we have heard that HTC’s quad-core devices will be ready in time for a public unveiling at the Mobile World Congress, which takes place in February.

It may be seen as a slight disappoint that there may not be any quad-core phones on show at the event next week, but we have a feeling that there will be a healthy lineup of new and exciting 4G smartphones and tablets to keep you busy in the meantime. Don’t expect to see Apple’s iPad 3 or ‘HDTV’ products though, as we told you yesterday that is it highly unlikely that Apple would choose to reveal both products at a different event, other than the company’s own infamous events.

How excited are you about seeing the first official details on the HTC Edge? Smartphones are still releasing in today’s market with dual-core processors, but the stakes will well and truly become a whole lot bigger as soon as the juggernaut HTC Edge arrives with a quad-core 1.5Ghz processor. Will any other smartphone be able to cope with this?

For some reason, it only seems to be HTC smartphones that are stepping up to the plate in 2012 that we’ve heard about so far. Previously we’ve seen rumored information for the HTC Edge and HTC Zeta, but now it looks like we have the very first image of the upcoming HTC Ville.

HTC are busy focusing their efforts on the now-released HTC Rezound on Verizon of course, but for those of you are a fan of HTC generally and opted to bide your time, it looks like you are going to be rewarded with a whole plethora of new HTC handset excitement for you to contend with.

We initially told you about the rumored HTC Ville here, but now we have the first image and some additional details to share with you. Unlike the rumored HTC Edge and Zeta, the Ville won’t be a Tegra 3 quad-core device, but it will be a Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone. One of its biggest features is its dimensions, as information uncovered at Pocketnow reveals that the Ville will come in at just 8mm thick, making it HTC’s thinnest smartphone ever if true.

Other specs if you haven’t heard of this device before include a 4.3-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon processor, an 8 megapixel camera and support for 1080p HD video recording. We’re also hearing that this device will be packaged with the latest version of HTC Sense UI and it will be another Beats audio device following on from the Rezound.

As for a release, we could be seeing a global announcement at the 2011 Mobile World Congress in February with a release date planned sometime in April according to Pocketnow. You can check out the first image of the handset here – take a look and tell us your initial thoughts on the Ville. Is it worth saving your cash for this, or would you prefer to pick up a quad-core smartphone?

We recently told you about an upcoming handset from HTC called the Edge that appeared, which is set to feature the new Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. Now we have news of the Sense 4.0 running HTC Ville that will be sporting Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

There always seems loads of new smartphones being worked on by manufacturers on the Android platform. BGR are reporting that the HTC Ville will come with a 4.3-inch qHD display and will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.

The updated HTC Sense 4.0 UI is also rumored to be installed on the handset, and will include an eight megapixel camera with a backside illuminated sensor. There will also be support for 1080p video capture. A 1650 mAh battery will be providing the power to the handset that is thought will be HSPA+.

You will get the standard Beats Audio refinements now seen with HTC handsets, but there will be no NFC support because of the all-metal casing that is reportedly less than 8mm thick. The image shows there are no physical or touch sensitive buttons beneath the display, as the new Android operating system puts these onto the display itself.

It is thought the name Ville is just a codename that will change when the device is shown off at the Mobile World Congress in February next year. Hopefully it won’t be long before more details of the device become available along with details of the Edge. These handsets just add to the ever growing choice Android fans now have.
