If you check out the HTC Trophy specs you will probably agree that one slightly disappointing feature is its 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, well it looks like the handset’s successor could be way more impressive in this particular aspect.

Recently some photos showed up on HTCPedia showing a previously unseen HTC smartphone running Windows Phone 7, what’s interesting about this smartphone is that it resembles the HTC Trophy and features a 12 megapixel camera with RAW file support.

The support for RAW files will be great for photography enthusiasts, however we have to remember that a high-resolution sensor does not always result in better quality photos then lower-resolution sensors, any iPhone 4 user will vouch for this.

As we previously mentioned the handset looks a lot like the HTC Trophy, therefore we are speculating whether this could our first glimpse at the HTC Trophy 2, check out the image below, do you think it is the HTC Trophy 2?

Hopefully we will hear more about this smartphone soon, for now we would love to hear from any of you who own the HTC Trophy to let us know what improvements you would like to see the handset’s successor bring.

As we continue to wait for the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt official release date, another HTC device on the carrier, the Trophy, still has no release date. Mystery still surrounds release dates for both handsets, with little snippets of advertizing or specs leaking all the time.

There is some good news surrounding the HTC Trophy, as the device is a global CDMA/quad-band GSM handset according to a report by Daniel Rubino at wpcentral. This will be welcome news for Verizon customers, as this will be the first Windows Phone which can be used worldwide for the carrier.

The handset is said to be very fast and smooth, and the NoDo update has done away with the Marketplace scrolling lag. The OS has also been confirmed to be NoDo version 7.0.7355. Finally don’t take it for granted, but a Verizon rep who claims they are involved with the handset, says it will not be released before June.

This is only speculation but if the Trophy doesn’t come out by the end of March, we have pre-warned you. It does make some sense as an earlier version of the OS is now testing, and is not quite ready for launch.

Verizon customers continue to wait for confirmation of release dates for the new HTC handsets, and must be frustrating once you have set your heart on a particular device.

Are you waiting for the Trophy or Thunderbolt?

We have some good news for Verizon customers now, as it looks like you’ll be getting an extra slice of Windows Phone 7 goodness with the arrival of the HTC Trophy, after recent pictures leaked online confirmed it’s existance.

An image of the device shows the HTC Trophy running on the Verizon network, obtained by Engadget’s unnamed source and you can view it below.

For those of you who aren’t aware, the HTC Trophy is a 3.5-inch device with key specs such as a 5 megapixel camera, 1Ghz Qualcomm processor, 576MB of RAM, WiFi and GPS.

Definitely not amazing specs there, but still good news for those of you who wanted to see it on Verizon when it was announced last year. Another bit of good news, is that the HTC Trophy will be coming to Verizon with the latest OS of Windows Phone 7, meaning that it will have copy and paste support amongst other things.

Are you interested about getting this device on Verizon or not? We’ve included a video below which shows some of the Trophy’s impressive 3D gaming capabilities.
