New special HTC Touch Diamond version (P3702)

HTC Touch Diamond version
The HTC Touch Diamond has been one of the most popular phones in 2008, phone followers have been searching for news on this phone for many months and the iPhone 3G has not slowed down peoples interest.

Today we are hearing about another version of the HTC Touch Diamond and the big different is the “Diamond”, rumor has it that the new version will not include the famous Diamond pattern.

The model is said to be HTC P3702 and this may be an exclusive to Taiwan (for now anyway), it will feature a 3.2 megapixel camera, runs on the same platform as the T-mobile MDA Compact IV Victor and has a rounded design that should appeal to those that felt the original Diamond lacking.

HTC Diamond P3702 will also feature 128MB of RAM instead of 192MB of RAM in the P3700 HTC Touch Diamond (the extra 64MB in the original Diamond was used for video acceleration); this makes us believe that the P3702 will not include video acceleration.

We have also heard that a CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond was approved at the North American FCC, this version has the same rounded edges as the P3702.

Size Comparison: iPhone 3G vs HTC Touch Diamond & Pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Today we have a size and weight comparison of the Apple iPhone 3G vs not only the first generation iPhone (EDGE) but also the HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. This gives you a good look at how the new iPhone 3G compares in size and weight terms to some of the other popular phones.

You can see an image above that gives you a visual guide to the comparison of sizes this is thanks to Engadget. If you like reading then lets get right to it.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 weighs in at 158 grams and measures 110 x 52.6 x 17mm, then we have the HTC Touch Pro at 165 grams and sized at 102 x 51 x 18.05mm, the HTC Touch Diamond comes in at the lightest of the bunch with a weight of just 110 grams and the smallest size at 102 x 51 x 11.35mm.

When we compare the two iPhones, the first and second generation we can see that the iPhone 3G is clearly bigger but only slightly at 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm compared to the iPhone (EDGE) at 115 x 61 x 11.6mm, although the iPhone 3G is a little lighter at 133 grams compared to the first generation at 135 grams.

Some users will be annoyed that the iPhone has had it’s price cut so much that it can be labeled as “Cheap”, some users liked the appeal of the iPhone being expensive. Personally I think it does not matter but then if you really wanted to look close then you would see that it’s not cheap when you take into account the AT&T price plans and 2-year contract. When you compare the iPhone 3G’s price and contract to the other phones, then you can class it as a good deal.

New 3G iPhone Release or LG Secret, Motorola Z10, Motorola Z10, HTC Touch Diamond

It seems that June 9 will be a big day for Apple and it will most likely be the day of the new Apple 3G iPhone release. The next big launch has been surrounded by so many rumors and Matt Warman of the Telegraph has taken a look at the success of the current iPhone and whether the other big players can now offer a better phone than Apple.

He compares the iPhone to the LG Secret, Motorola Z10, Motorola Z10 and HTC Touch Diamond. Will the new iPhone be a major success just because its got the Apple brand on it or will it have to pull something big out of the bag to compete with the other new top end phones?

This Monday is the WorldWide Developers Conference in San Francisco and everything else on the table will be forgotten about, the only news everyone wants is to hear Apple talk “second generation iPhone”. Many sites have tried to guess the features of iPhone 2.0, but many agree it will have certain specs that should have been in the first iPhone.

These would include things such as a decent camera, third-generation data technology, a GPS system and a better battery. What is it you would want from the next iPhone?

Apple is known for Style when it comes to their products and as we all love to follow fashions, they have got gadgets and style just right. So I personally believe most people looking for a new phone will want the most desirable brand and currently that’s Apple and their iPhone. Read the comparison of the iPhone to the LG Secret, Motorola Z10, Motorola Z10 and HTC Touch Diamond on The Telegraph.

Side by Side: HTC Touch Diamond, 3G iPhone and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

All the brands are producing cell phones with the latest technology and gadgets, with each new major release of the brands latest design it comes with fancy features that we all want and 2008 is shaping up to be the best year yet for cool phones.

This year will be a major battle between the big names in the phone business and three of the biggest phones would be the HTC Touch Diamond, Apple 3G iPhone and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. For the first time ever, you can see these phones side by side. Check out the photo above and the ones below to get a comparison of design between these phones and feel free to share your comment on your favorite.

What phone will you choose to be in your pocket in 2008?

The photos give a design comparison side by side, on top of each other (nothing like getting close), and on their own. Personally I still prefer the Apple iPhone for style and design, the HTC Touch just seems too square for my liking and the Xperia X1 has a Nokia N95 look to it, which I dislike.

When comes to flush lines, you cannot beat the iPhone in my opinion, but I am sure some users are dedicated to another brand. If you do find it a tough choice when upgrading your cell phone this year, then why not dig deep and buy all three…well at least it’s a dream.

When buying a new phone, what’s more important to you, the style and design or features of that phone?

HTC Touch Diamond ROM Hacked Already: soft keyboard extracted

May 14, 2008 by Daniel

Earlier today we talked about how the upcoming Blackberry Thunder may improve on the Blackberry Bold’s lack of touchscreen, but another sleek looking cell phone that features touchscreen is the HTC Touch Diamond and while it has only just been released, it’s not only come out a month before the expected 3G iPhone launch, but one week on from launch and the Touch Diamond has been hacked already. It makes you wonder if the phone makers do not mind their cell phones getting hacked, or are these hackers really that good and no security can stop them. Whatever way it is, this hack will bring features that many users will like and thanks to a XDA Devs user, the HTC Diamond’s ROM has been hacked and the soft keyboard extracted.

If you want to run this hacked feature, then you will need to visit the XDA Devs site but remember to change the default language from Italian to English on install (unless you speak Italian that is), and the install may be a bit slow but this is apparently normal. We have not tested this hack, so do it at your own risk but its said to ask you to reset your device and then it will give you 3 new KB layouts. With all these new sleek looking cell phones, the consumer has never had so much choice and the HTC Touch Diamond is one of the best current choices of phones, it sports a full HTML web browser just like many next-gen phones and like my iPhone. Other features include One-touch navigation and music playback, as the the HTC Touch Diamond is all about the way you touch your phone.

Can Apple 3G iPhone beat Blackberry Bold and HTC Touch Diamond?

Apple 3G iPhone
We have three phones and three good ones at that and call this a debate or just a general what is the best model one way or another surely there must be a clear winner, the only people that will let us all know is you the people who will buy them. You will read below all about the Apple 3G iPhone, the Blackberry Bold and the HTC Touch Diamond where I will talk a little about each phone with specs and pictures and I will put across what I feel is the best, although you may agree or disagree with my review, feel free to leave your opinion.

Let me start with the much talked about Apple 3G iPhone, we all know by now that this device will be launching in June sometime and apparently is launching at the WWDC conference but is this the phone of all phones? The Apple 3G iPhone will come in three sizes which start with 8GB for $399 then there is the 16GB version for $499 and the one I would choose which is the 32GB version for $599, you must remember that the 32GB Apple 3G iPhone has not yet been confirmed as far as we can tell. So far what we know is that Apple are going to trim off a stunning 2.5mm off the current iPhone’s case which will give the 3G iPhone a very slim advantage over most phones similar to this one, the casings material may be different as well. The Apple 3G iPhone will boast an Infineon-based S-GOLD3H 3G chip which will be able to get HSDPA speeds up to 7.2Mbps (Not in America though), there were talks of a front facing video-call camera which may be supported by the supported by the Infineon S-GOLD3H 3G chip and speculated by Kevin Rose but this is just a rumor at the moment. We all know the main specs of the Apple 3G iPhone so I will move onto the next phone. Possible photos of the Apple 3G iPhone.

blackberry bold

The next muck talked about phone is the Blackberry 9000 also known as the Blackberry Bold which is out now, this is a brand new messaging smartphone which will deliver so much more than any other smartphone messenger. I will talk a little about the specs but you can see the full specifications below this information, The all new BlackBerry Bold features a stunning and yes large TFT display with the same half-VGA resolution as the Apple iPhone’s (480 x 320 pixels) plus has a cool full QWERTY keyboard. The Blackberry Bold will run on the latest Blackberry OS 4.6, it has 1GB built in memory plus a microSD memory card slot which supports 8GB microSDHC cards plus there is promise of 16GB support. The 624MHz processor will run smoothly we have been told, just so you get an idea of the size it is the same size as the Blackberry 8830. The Blackberry Bold is apparently the first Blackberry smartphone to feature tri-band HSDPA support besides the quad-band GSM/EDGE one and with integrated GPS receiver and Wi-Fi you know you are getting something special. Check out the main specifications of the Blackberry Bold below.

Blackberry Bold Specifications -
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, 3G Network UMTS 850 / 1900 / 2100, Full QWERTY keyboard, Trackball navigation, Wallpapers, MP3 & Polyphonic Ringtones, Vibration, 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, Photocall & Phonebook, Call records, 128 MB built in memory plus microSD (TransFlash), microSDHC, up to 8 GB Card slot, 1 GB storage memory, 624 MHz processor, GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps, EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps, 3G HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, USB v2.0, BlackBerry OS, SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messaging, HTML Browser, Games, 2 MP Camera - 1600×1200 pixels, video, flash, Built-in GPS, BlackBerry maps, Media player MP3/WMA/AAC+, Video player DivX/WMV/XviD/3gp, DataViz document viewer/editor, Java, Organizer, Calculator, Voice dial, Built-in handsfree, Voice memo, Stand-by Up to 310 hours plus Talk time Up to 5 hours, 114 x 66 x 14 mm and 133 grams in weight with battery.

htc-touch-diamond

Last but not least we have the HTC Touch Diamond which is without a doubt a stunning cell phone and features the impressive HTC Touch 3D interface (aka HTC Manila), HTC Diamond is truly touch-optimized which will be favored by the masses. The HTC Touch Diamond is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and has a stunning 2.8-inch VGA display and with a size of only 11.5mm thin this will be the phone we can see many people choosing, it also has the built in accelerometer which is basically the same as the Apple iPhone, just a re-cap of what the built in accelerometer is. Basically it allows screen auto rotation, so turn the phone and you get landscape and then turn it back and you get portrait. You will get a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus plus Wi-Fi and a GPS receiver.

The HTC Touch Diamond has 192MB DDR SDRAM, runs on a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor, FM radio with RDS plus 4GB of storage memory (no memory card slot). I really do like this phone but there are downsides, shame really because this is a sexy phone but in reality there has to be downsides to everything. The downside is the tri-band-only GSM support, yes there will be two versions one for Asia and Europe plus another for America, the other downside has to be the small 900 mAh battery. The HTC Touch Diamond will be available in June 2008 in Europe and Asia, and other regions at the end of the year. Please do check out the full specifications below.

HTC Touch Diamond Specifications -
2G Network GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 for Europe/Asia - GSM 850 / 1800 / 1900 for Americas - 3G Network HSDPA 2100 / 900 for Europe/Asia - HSDPA 850 / 1900 for Americas, 2.8 Inch TFT Touchscreen Display with 65K colors & 480 x 640 pixels, TouchFLO 3D finger swipe navigation, Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, Touch-sensitive navigation control, Handwriting recognition, Vibration, MP3, WAV, WMA & Polyphonic (40 channels) Ringtones, Phonebook & Photocall plus Call records, No Card slot but does have 4 GB user available memory, 192 MB DDR SDRAM, 256 MB ROM, Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 Mhz processor, GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots) 32 - 48 kbps, EDGE Class 10 - 236.8 kbps, 3G HSDPA - 7.2 Mbps, WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, miniUSB, Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS, SMS, MMS, Email & Instant Messaging, HTML & WAP 2.0/xHTML Browser, Games, 3.2 MP Camera with autofocus, video plus secondary VGA videocall camera, Built-in GPS with A-GPS, Voice memo, Java MIDP 2.0, Pocket Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PDF viewer), Stereo FM radio with RDS, Built-in handsfree, MP3 player, Up to 285 hours standby time, Up to 5 hours 30 minutes talk time, 102 x 51 x 11.5 mm and 110 grams in weight with battery

My personal opinion – This is a difficult one really, at the moment I am personally using the Apple iPhone and swear by it so sometimes when you love using something so much you become biast, personally the best looking phone without any doubt in my mind has to be the HTC Touch Diamond but it is the hope of a 32GB Apple 3G iPhone which sways me towards that. I do not have a lot of experience with any BlackBerry device but this Blackberry Bold seems like a very good business phone. The tri-band HSDPA support and Wi-Fi makes this a good contender, personally just going on the looks the BlackBerry Bold is off my list.

So that leaves me with the Apple 3G iPhone and the HTC Touch Diamond, I do love the look of the HTC Touch Diamond much more than the iPhone but it is the iPhone I would personally go for because I know how it works, how it acts and how easy it is to use and the fact 32GB storage within.

Please let us know what you would choose out of the Apple 3G iPhone, Blackberry Bold and HTC Touch Diamond. Can the Apple 3G iPhone beat Blackberry Bold and HTC Touch Diamond?

Get 3G HTC Touch Diamond or wait for June’s 3G Apple iPhone?

With the 3G HTC Touch Diamond being released before the 3G Apple iPhone, this could see some current iPhone users move from their nice Apple phone to a 3G HTC. I own a first generation iPhone and would love not only the 3G iPhone, but also the many improvements it could have (better camera, GPS, etc). Now this puts me in a position as the HTC Touch Diamond looks very cool, features 3G and a lot of other nice features that the current iPhone does not have and being one who hates waiting, what do you do?

Today, we are also hearing rumors on Engadget that AT&T has sent out a memo telling employees not to take a vacation between June 15 and July 12, now could this be because AT&T need all their employees for a busy 3G iPhone launch?

If this is true and we do see the 3G Apple iPhone in June/July, then that’s not long to wait and it would be worth waiting to then and get a real comparison on the 3G iPhone vs HTC Touch Diamond. At that point, we can make an informed decision about which phone is the best to get.

Would you buy the HTC Touch Diamond or wait to June for a possible 3G Apple iPhone release?

Other factors involved would include a comparison of Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 on the HTC Touch Diamond to the Mac OS on the iPhone, some phone users will know and love Windows Mobile, so for them its an easy choice. When the iPhone was first released, a friend who worked in an O2 store, said that many iPhone owners were coming back with problems because they did not know the Mac OS well, they were used to the Windows Mobile OS. It will be interesting to see what happens on the sales front in 2008.

New HTC Touch Diamond: Light and small with TouchFLO 3D

This is the new HTC Touch Diamond and its light, small and sports TouchFLO 3D. With the UK getting their hands on it first thanks to being on Orange from June, the HTC Touch Diamond will be coming to a US carrier soon although we have no details yet of dates or prices. The interface looks very promising as you can see in the photos on this page; it’s a stunner and features single-finger dialing, zoom-in navigation with “just one hand” and one-touch browsing.

The HTC Touch Diamond is packed with features and they include Quad-band HSDPA 7.2, a VGA Screen, Windows Mobile 6.1, Orange mobile TV with up to 61 channels, YouTube application, Full HTML Opera web browser and a lot of “One-Touch” features like One-touch music playback and One-touch navigation.

Another cool feature is the accelerometer that rotates pictures as you rotate the phone, the only nasty feature we can see is having to use HTC’s proprietary USB dongle is not good, as a normal headphone jack would have been better.

While we have no information on the exact battery life, we are told it’s better than other HTC devices, although the battery is smaller than the Touch.
