HTC Rezound owners can finally breath a sigh of relief. After a 10 month agonizing wait, it looks like Verizon and HTC has finally gotten their act together and have started rolls outs for an official update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

We had first been alerted of rollouts yesterday, when some of our readers claimed that the update had started for them. This was when we were discussing the disappointment of the update still not appearing despite recent promises from HTC’s support team that it would be out before the end of July.

That may not have happened technically, but it looks like Verizon are now making preparations to have everyone on Android 4.0 before the end of this weekend. Word has it that the update is 399MB is size and the update will occur in the form an an OTA notification on your device.

Like all software updates, not everyone is going to be getting the notifications at exactly the same time. It will depend on where your location is based sadly, so you still may not see a notification until some time tomorrow. Just to reiterate, don’t panic if you haven’t received the update, but consider yourself fortunate if you have as you must be one of the very first waves.

Better late than never eh folks? Well, 10 months is pretty ridiculous in all honesty. Let’s hope that Verizon has learned a lesson from the inevitable abuse that they have received through customer service and will never make their customers wait 10 months for a promised software update again.

Have you received the Android 4.0 notification yet or not? Let us know your location as usual.

It would be nice if we could write some positive news on the HTC Rezound for once, but unfortunately it appears that Verizon is stopping us from doing that. It’s now August 1st and there is still no official Ice Cream Sandwich update in sight, despite initial promises that it would be coming.

It was almost a month ago when we last wrote about the Rezound’s update plight, informing you that HTC Support had seemingly confirmed that the official update to ICS for the Rezound would be out before the end of July. Skip forward to today and there is no indication from Verizon or HTC support that their previous comment had been with merit.

As you can imagine, it is a very frustrating experience for Rezound owners who were originally promised a swift update by HTC and Verizon when they purchased their device back in November 2011. Without being too harsh, it does seem clear that Verizon and HTC have broken that all important trust barrier with their paying customers.

Some customers will now feel that they are at a dead end, locked into a two year agreement and only staying on Verizon purely because of signal reception purposes. The carrier has made no attempt to reassure customers that the Rezound update is still coming, leaving the masses having to deal with rumor after rumor to no avail. How hard would it be to send out a simple Tweet stating that the update is coming we wonder?

We asked you in our previous article who you thought the blame should be placed with. Having read through the feedback you gave us, it’s clear that a lot of you are now pointing the finger at Verizon and not HTC. Are you a Rezound owner who also feels like it’s a dead end situation with no update in sight? Give us your thoughts on the ongoing saga.

We have a much needed update for those of you still rocking a HTC Rezound. If you have been waiting patiently and haven’t been tempted by a custom Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, you’ll be pleased to hear that HTC has recently been quoted as saying that the long awaited official update to ICS will be happening by the end of the month.

Unfortunately, the HTC Rezound appears to be another of Verizon’s newish smartphones that have fallen under the misleading practice of the ‘promised ICS update’. Many consumers who purchased the Rezound at launch back in November last year were under the impression that ICS was already being prepared and would be available during the early stages of 2012.

Skip forward nine months and there’s still no official update in sight. Whether this is down to HTC or solely due to Verizon remains up for debate, but we do have some pleasing information to give you at last. HTC recently replied to a customer email, specifically informing him that the official update to Ice Cream Sandwich will be happening towards the end of this month.

The email also said that final rollouts will take place in August and to be aware of localization barriers that may stop the update from reaching everyone at the same time. Hopefully, we will now start to see evidence of soak tests beginning and official rollouts taking place, as we’re now heading towards mid July – not long to go at all.

While it is obviously pleasing that the update is still coming, do you think it is unacceptable that the device is still on Gingerbread, nine months after release? How many of you would have still picked up the Rezound, knowing you would have to wait this long for the first major update – not many we suspect.

Given the long delay for Android 4.0 to release for the Rezound, it’s probably safe to say that the chances of the device getting an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is slim to none. We would like to see a stop to these ‘promised updates’ to future updates during launch, as it must be very frustrating for those who purchased their smartphone with only that incentive of a swift update in mind.

If you have a Rezound right now, let us know your thoughts on the nine month wait for Ice Cream Sandwich. Do you place the blame at Verizon or HTC?

We recently told you how Motorola had provided a much needed update on the Ice Cream Sandwich update status for their collection of handsets. Now we’re pleased to say that...

We recently told you how Motorola had provided a much needed update on the Ice Cream Sandwich update status for their collection of handsets. Now we’re pleased to say that it’s HTC turn, as the company has provided a similar list with some important information for owners with handsets such as the Rezound and the Thunderbolt.

The good news, is that a lot of you are going to be happy. Ice Cream Sandwich updates may be taking their time to come out, but looking at the list it seems that HTC has done a good job in trying to bring Android 4.0 to as many handsets as possible.

Even older handsets such as the HTC Thunderbolt are getting the update, as is the Desire S and Desire HD. Thunderbolt owners should expect the update to occur between July and August, while the Desire HD update is scheduled between July-August and the Desire S a little sooner between June-July.

Unfortunately, it looks like those of you with a Droid Incredible 2 are in for an anxious wait. HTC has basically said that they are still deciding on whether this handset will get the update or not, with a decision to be made before the end of August. Expected ICS updates are happening for the Sensation line of handsets, and there’s good news for Vivid, Amaze 4G and Rhyme owners as well.

It’s a good idea to bookmark and study the update chart over at HTC’s website here. Early HTC Flyer buyers are probably regretting their purchase right now, as the website also drops the bad news that the device will remain on Honeycomb forever.

Overall, it’s nice of HTC to provide these kinds of details that consumers are obviously desperate to hear. The move seems to have been prompted by Motorola’s recent ICS chart, so let’s see if Samsung decide to provide a similar chart soon. Are you happy with this information provided by HTC, or has your handset been left off the list?

Just over a week ago HTC announced some details regarding a collection of its handsets and the manufacturer’s plans for upgrading to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Today we have some more news as the US HTC ICS update list is revealed by the company.

HTC may not be the quickest in getting the update out to their devices but they seem to be ahead of the likes of Motorola, and are at least keeping everyone informed. This latest news brings the new operating system closer to many of the company’s US carrier specific smartphones. HTC have confirmed a number of Verizon handsets will eventually be getting the upgrade, which according to SlashGear includes the HTC Rezound.

Other handsets listed by HTC include the HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Droid Incredible 2, and the HTC Rhyme. The company also announced that the HTC Raider that is found on Rogers and Bell in Canada will receive ICS. HTC promised that more handsets will be listed in the coming weeks so will hopefully reach the likes of T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T devices.

This will be good news for owners of the handsets that may have wondered if their device would be left out of the upgrade plans. We recently told you that some owners of the HTC Sensation and Sensation XE will soon be treated to early access to ICS for testing. It looks like that many HTC handsets that are around a year or more old should eventually be upgraded to Android 4.0.

The company has yet to give a timescale when this latest list of smartphones will actually be receiving the update, but hopefully it won’t be too far away. Do you have any of the handsets now listed by HTC?

We recently gave Samsung Galaxy S II owners reason to celebrate after a stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich became available to download, and now it looks like HTC Rezound...

We recently gave Samsung Galaxy S II owners reason to celebrate after a stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich became available to download, and now it looks like HTC Rezound owners who are looking to update to Android 4.0 can now get their Ice Cream Sandwich fix as well.

Unfortunately though, it looks like this new build of Ice Cream Sandwich for the HTC Rezound isn’t stable, so we won’t recommend that you go and download this straight away. It does serve as a great marker though in ensuring that a future build of Ice Cream Sandwich that is stable will be coming sooner rather than later.

Just like the Samsung Galaxy S II and countless other Android handsets who already have unofficial Android 4.0 update options, there is no indication when carriers and manufacturers will release official Ice Cream Sandwich updates, as following on from the Galaxy Nexus, other updates have been kept to a minimal.

If out of curiosity though that you want to mix your Beats audio device with a slice of Ice Cream Sandwich, then you will find the download links and instructions on how to get this working over at Rootz Wiki, courtesy of Droid-Life. You will obviously need to be running on a rooted handset as well and know what you are doing, as if you don’t it could all go horribly wrong for you and instead of Android 4.0 you’ll have a non-responsive bricked handset.

We hope now that this build is out, it won’t be long until we hear of a future version which improves stability. On a side note, what other Android handset would you like developers to start working on for Ice Cream Sandwich? We’ve seen a lot of requests for the Photon 4G, while we’re sure HTC EVO 4G owners would love a port of Ice Cream Sandwich as well – are we right?

For a phone that has music sound quality as its biggest selling point, you may be disappointed to hear new reports today that the HTC Rezound is suffering from headphone related sound problems, including those mighty Beats earphones that come included with the device.

At the moment, the problem appears to only be affecting a small minority of HTC Rezound owners, but from feedback we’ve seen so far it looks like those numbers are growing by the day. A report by Droid-Life talks about the problems at hand, revealing that some users are noticing a pesky static interference when listening to music through the headphones.

The problem isn’t thought to be an internal issue with the Beats Audio built into the phone, but it is affecting consumers who listen to music through any set of headphones, including the iBeats earphones. Unfortunately, the specific cause behind this problem hasn’t been determined yet, but one possible theory is that it could be related to Verizon’s 4G LTE service.

HTC are yet to comment on the issues as they are probably waiting to see if this issue is really a major problem first before they take action. We’re hoping that this is just software related so a patch can be issued to fix it up quickly. The worse case scenario of course would be that the problem is hardware-related which would then be a huge headache for HTC as they may need to recall devices to be fixed.

We wish we had more concrete information to share with you, but it appears like this issue has only started to gain attention. If you bought a Rezound recently and have also noticed a static interference with your headphones, then let us know if you have any additional information. We’ll update this when we can.

We have some good news for those of you who are planning to pick up the HTC Rezound in favor of the Galaxy Nexus and Droid RAZR. It looks like we now have a confirmed price for the full retail version of the device, for those who don’t want to get the Rezound on contract.

We recently told you that the Droid RAZR will be priced at $649 off-contract, and now it looks like the HTC Rezound will come in at exactly the same price as well, as reported from Droid-Life. While the price isn’t surprising from the point of view that it’s a brand new Verizon 4G LTE phone, some of you may be unhappy about the growing trend of smartphones now entering above the $500 mark at full retail price.

Does the HTC Rezound match the Droid RAZR for specs though to warrant the same price? Well, that answer could be debatable as both the Rezound and Droid RAZR have their strong points. Firstly, the Rezound comes with a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor compared to the dual-core 1.2 chip featured on the RAZR. Next, the Rezound has a 2MP camera on the front, while the RAZR only has a 1.3MP camera, the same as the Galaxy Nexus too by the way. However, the Rezound will come with a smaller battery capacity than the RAZR, as 1620mAh Vs 1780mAh featured on the RAZR may prove to be a vital factor, as battery life is essential to consumers these days.

If you want to get the HTC Rezound on contract, you can expect to pay $299 as usual, also the same price for the Droid RAZR. Like we have pointed out though, another strong factor in favor of the Rezound, is the fact that it is the first Beats Audio smartphone to land in the US, and many consumers may find the opportunity to own a brand new smartphone complete with a pair of custom Beats headphones, simply too good to turn down.

Are you seriously considering picking up the HTC Rezound from Verizon? If so, will you buy it on contract or at the full $649 retail price?

Just as expected, HTC has finally unveiled the HTC Rezound smartphone to the world. It happened at a special event just a few hours ago and we can now share key information about the handset to you, relating to a solid release date, pricing at Verizon and official specs as well.

Since everybody already knew the Rezound was coming, consumers may find it difficult to gain that certain excitement factor whenever a new phone is launched. Having said that, the Rezound will certainly hold its own against the likes of the Galaxy Nexus and Droid RAZR on Verizon, but no doubt that many people will be buying this phone due to its built-in Beats audio technology.

The specs match up to previous speculation too, as the HTC Rezound will be equipped with a 4.3-inch super LCD WVGA 1280×720 display along with a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor. You’ll get 1GB of RAM and two impressive looking cameras – an 8 megapixel sensor on the back capable of 1080P HD recording, and also a separate 2 megapixel camera on the front of the device as well. As expected, the Rezound will ship with Gingerbread, version 2.3.5 to be exact, but it will also come with HTC Sense 3.5 on top as well.

One important thing to note though if you’re planning to get one, is that HTC also confirmed at their event that the Rezound will be ‘Ice Cream Sandwich ready’ which basically means that it will get an update at some point next year, no sign of release though unsurprisingly.

As for the Beats factor, you’ll get a custom set of Beats headphones included in the box. We just hope that the included 1620mAh battery that comes with the Rezound is able to handle all the bass-pumping tracks, as well as 4G LTE data that you’ll be churning out on a daily basis – we all know what happened to the Thunderbolt don’t we.

Here’s the important info if you think that the Rezound suits your tastes: It will go on sale at Verizon starting from November 14, and as you may have guessed it will come in at $299 on a two-year deal with the carrier, a standard price for their 4G LTE lineup these days.

Who is interested in this device and who is planning to skip it in favor of the Galaxy Nexus or Droid RAZR? We’ll be bringing you more details on the Rezound shortly.

Earlier on this week we gave you a useful video hands-on preview of the unannounced HTC Rezound smartphone, but now we have something exciting to share with you. HTC has just announced that they’ll be holding an event on November 3rd, and you can bet that a good portion of it will be spent unveiling their new device.

Firstly, if you haven’t seen the recent video, you can watch that back again here. It shows the device in the wild, alongside the HTC Thunderbolt giving you an initial run-through of design and dimensions compared to the Thunderbolt.

In perfect timing, HTC has now unveiled their event which will take place later today and we have the roundup of start times for you in your relevant time zone. Also take note of the accompanied image that HTC supplied with their invitations, Beats logo for the letter ‘b’ in brilliant is a dead giveaway for the Rezound, as it will be one of their new smartphones to support the popular audio technology from Dr Dre.

Without further ado, we can tell you that the event will be taking place at 7.30pm UK time, which is 12.30pm Pacific Time and 3.30pm for those of you on Eastern Time. Bad news for me since the event will take place at 3.30am Hong Kong time, but we’ll be keeping you updated with key information from the event as soon as it happens live anyway.

What are your expectations of the event? We expect to see more than one device other than the Rezound, a nice new tablet would be lovely as well. We’re hoping that the Rezound will have a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor at a minimum, while a confirmation of an Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 update would also go down a treat in our books.

If you’re looking for a liveblog of the event, you’ll be able to find one courtesy of Engadget here. We’ll update this when we gather more links if you want an alternative.
