Since it was first leaked there has been a lot of talk of the HTC Pyramid, with the phone looking to be a highly desirable handset. Today we have some news on the UK release of the handset, and a name change for it.

Stuart Miles over at Pocket-lint is reporting that people close to the matter have told them the HTC Pyramid will be called the Sensation. The device will launch in the UK next Tuesday at HTC’s special media event in London.

The handset should then become available in the UK over the following months. One of the sites sources did confirm that the handset will be coming to the UK but couldn’t say what networks. Rumors before have spoke about the handset having a dual-core processor and a 4.3-inch display.

It is also thought the handset will be running Google’s Android Gingerbread when it becomes available. The speculation about the handset increased recently when there was no sign of it at the cell phone tradeshows CITA and MWC.

Some people think the handset could be one of the most sought after new cell phones released this year, and by next week we should have more idea of its availability.

We have some more details on the HTC Pyramid to show you yet, and it’s definitely the biggest reveal yet. We have previously brought you leaked specs and pictures, but now we have some more concrete information for you, and good news with relation to which operating system it will run on.

The phone has appeared over at the XDA Developers Forums, and aside from revealing more solid pictures of the device, we get a new list of improved specs for you to enjoy.

The HTC Pyramid will be an Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset and it will be equipped with a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch qHD display, a whopping 768MB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera, and Sense 3.0 UI on top of Gingerbread, which is the same what you’re going to get on the HTC EVO 3D, as reported from BGR.

If you previously haven’t heard too much about the HTC Pyramid, you better start taking notice as this is looking like one of the stand out Android handsets of 2011. This is certainly the most impressive we’ve seen aside from the HTC EVO 3D from a hardware point of view. Unfortunately, we don’t have any details on a release yet, but we’ll update you when we do.

What are your thoughts on the HTC Pyramid, could this be your next Android handset upgrade? Android 3.0, dual core 1.2Ghz and a 4.3-inch HD display – we doubt it’s going to get much better than that this year. Stay tuned for more details.

Only just yesterday we showed you a photo of the HTC Pyramid, which was the first solid photo of the devices back. Alan explained how the back of the Pyramid looked a lot more slick when compared to the HTC Desire HD, you can see that photo in yesterday’s post.

Today we’ve got a minor update that shows a photograph of the HTC Pyramid’s front (via gsmarena.com), which clearly shows a secondary camera (seen below) that we believe would be used for self-portraits and video-calling, much similar in display size as the 4.3-inch Desire HD, you will notice that the icons are smaller on the Pyramid, which will likely mean that the device has a higher resolution.

GSM Arena has also shown some new specs for the new HTC phone, these are rumored to include Sense UI 3.0, DLNA, 8 megapixel camera with auto focus, 768 MB RAM, Android 2.4, and a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. Anything missing you wanted to see on the HTC Pyramid?

The popular blog also looks at the aspect ratio in a comparison they performed, you can read about this in the above link. What do you think of the HTC Pyramid so far, and will it be your next phone? We’ll update you when we get more details, especially looking forward to a higher resolution photo or video.

As the Android platform continues its fast rise, we are seeing many desirable new smartphones becoming available. The HTC Thunderbolt has recently landed on the Verizon network, but the Motorola Droid Bionic is also due to be released on the network. Another handset which has been spoken about lately is the HTC Pyramid which is thought to be coming to T-Mobile.

Debbie Turner over at Online Social Media has written a detailed article looking at what is known about the upcoming handsets so far. The Droid Bionic is already been made official by Motorola, but at the moment we only have leaks about the Pyramid.

What we already know about the Droid Bionic is from the official Motorola product pages, and the leaks about the Pyramid shows that these two handsets are going to be very good when they are available. The Bionic will have a dual-core processor, and it is thought the HTC handset will also be powered by something similar.

The Motorola handset will have an 8-megapixel shooter on the rear, with a 0.3-megapixel round the front. Screen wise the Bionic will feature a 4.3-inch gHD display which is also thought to be on the Pyramid. The HTC has the upper hand with the camera side of things as the front facing one comes in at 1.3-megapixels, with the back the same at 8-megapixels.

Android 2.2 will be running the Droid when it is first released, with an Android 2.3 upgrade coming shortly after. The Pyramids operating system is more intriguing however, as it has been speculated to be having Honeycomb 3.0. But this is an operating system for tablet devices so whether it comes to the Pyramid remains to be seen.

Motorola’s handset has 512MB of RAM with the Pyramid said to be having 768MB. The Droid is a 4G handset, and the Pyramid is also thought to be 4G. Release wise the Droid Bionic is thought to be coming mid-April, with the HTC could be available the following month.

Both of these handsets will prove very popular when they are released, and continues the excellent choice the Android platform is now seeing with smartphones. There must be some iPhone users that wouldn’t consider changing, but must throw some admiring looks towards some of the new Android smartphones becoming available.

What do you think about the range of Android smartphones?

Remember the rumored HTC Pyramid smartphone that we told you about recently? Well it looks like this handset is indeed real as we have found another picture of the device for you to take a look at, one which gives you a solid look at the phone for the first time.

Last time we only had some renders to show you, but this one is an actual photo of the device, which we presume is a prototype which has been prized away from HTC’s manufacturing HQ. The picture which you see below has been obtained courtesy of TechBlog.gr, it shows the handset alongside the HTC Desire HD just for your reference:

Once again, we see that unusual silver design on the back of the device, we’re not sure if we like it yet, but you could argue that it’s a nice way to keep smartphones fresh and not just have the same old boring black design on the back – do you agree?

No mention of specs yet, but we can see from the photo that the Pyramid will have a decent rear camera combined with a dual LED flash as well as a 3.55mm headphone jack situated at the top of the device.

Are you interested in this handset, based on this hybrid silver design that you can see? We’ll let you know when we hear about specs for the Pyramid.

An article recently posted on xda.cn claims to have some leaked specifications and photos of the upcoming HTC Pyramid, we cannot verify these specs at present, however if they turn out to be accurate we are in for a treat.

We translated their website and looked at the leaked photos and here is what we have found out, apparently the HTC Pyramid will run Android 3.0 and feature a large 4.3-inch Super-LCD display supporting a resolution of 960 x 540, a 1.2GHz processor, 768MB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera on the rear (with auto-focus and an LED flash), a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front along with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

We have to take into account that xda.cn’s article may not have been accurate and some of the specs may have been mixed up once translated, this was evident when the translated source suggest that there was a 800 megapixel camera on the rear and a 130 megapixel camera on the front, which was obviously not the case.

Previously we suggested that the HTC Pyramid may feature a dual-core processor, these new leaked specs mention “high-pass” just after mentioning the 1.2GHz processor (after being translated), perhaps “high-pass” was a poor translation of the Chinese for “dual-core”, if you are Chinese perhaps you could check out the source and let us know in the comments section below.

Earlier today we posted an article which suggested that T-Mobile may release a new Android-based high-end smartphone in May 2011, with its dual-core CPU it will certainly be one of, if not the fastest smartphone on the market, therefore we thought we would look into how this could affect the rumored iPhone 5 release.

Over the last three years Apple has announced a new iPhone version in June, back in June 2008 they revealed the iPhone 3G, in June 2009 they announced the 3GS and last June they unveiled the iPhone 4, therefore I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone 5 shows up this June, but could this be too late?

As previously mentioned the HTC Pyramid will feature a dual-core chip, this will apparently be the Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor, this has 2 x 1.2GHz cores and will give devices 1080p encoding and decoding capabilities, also according to SmartphoneBenchmarks.com Qualcomm has also taken measures to make this energy efficient, there is integrated low power GPS and a dedicated low power audio engine, which should help the HTC Pyramid to get the most from its battery.

Rumors suggest that the Pyramid may have a 4.3-inch display and offer HSPA+ connectivity, also HTC has made a name for themselves in terms of build quality and their Sense UI is popular with consumers, if you bring all of this information together HTC could potentially deliver well-built a super-fast handset with great battery life, a 4.3 inch display and 1080p HD capabilities and fast connectivity thanks to HSPA+, also lets not forget that HTC’s UI combined with the latest version of Android will make the device extremely intuitive, I will be surprised if the iPhone 5 will be able to outdo this, what do you think?

Obviously a lot of this article is based on unconfirmed rumors and quite a few presumptions, however the HTC Pyramid certainly does have the potential to be a real competitor to Apple’s next smartphone release.

What are you more excited about dual-core Android smartphones or the iPhone 5?

There have been a number of rumors going around that the HTC Pyramid (it’s codename) actually exists and more importantly will be coming to T-Mobile. This latest handset is said to come with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor as well as a large 4.3-inch screen, and will have an expected release date of May.

Taylor Wimberly from Android and Me was given this information from what he calls a “regular source”, but he has had confirmation from another source also. Wimberly seems excited at the prospect of the new processor, even though we already knew that Qualcomm made their plans clear a while ago.

The processor was seen during CES, but we could even see it in action inside the T-Mobile HTC Pyramid during MWC 2011 later this month – well ten days to be exact. This is not the first paring between HTC and T-Mobile; they were the ones to bring us the G1 – first Android smartphone.

We already know of a few other handsets that could be seen during this years Mobile World Congress, such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Tab 2. We also expect to see the Motorola Droid X 2 (Daytona) and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. So which of these handsets are you looking forward to the most?
