If you are a U.S. Cellular customer, or have been considering switching to the sixth-largest carrier in North America we have details regarding two smartphones which might interest you.

Let’s start with the LG Genesis, this smartphone will arrive on June 8th and will cost you $149.99 when you take into consideration a $100 mail-in rebate. You can find out all about this unique smartphone over at AndroidCentral, with two touchscreen displays it should certainly attract some interest. Just to recap you get a 3.5-inch external display, a 3.2-inch internal display and a 5 megapixel camera, it ships with Android 2.2 FroYo and features a physical QWERTY keyboard.

The HTC Merge is available from U.S. Cellular today, it also costs $149.99 when you take into account a $100 mail-in rebate and is quite similar to the HTC Desire Z. You can find out all about the HTC Merge over at the official HTC website here. The Merge ships with Android 2.2 FroYo and features a 3.8-inch display, a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard and a 5 megapixel camera.

According to IntoMobile both handsets will receive Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates in the future, to be honest with you we can’t choose between the two offerings because they are both pretty similar in terms of specs, perhaps the Merge has the edge in terms looks and design, but the Genesis has the edge in terms of processing power and has those two touchscreen displays.

Which of the two would you choose?

Back in February we announced that the much-anticipated HTC Merge would become available through multiple North American carriers, sometime in the spring. We now have an update for you, as we’ve just discovered that the HTC Merge is in fact on its way to US Cellular.

What’s more is that the release date and price have also been revealed. According to a recent article by Robert Nelson over at nexus404.com, US Cellular announced via their Facebook page that the HTC Merge handset – which runs on Android 2.2 Froyo – will be available as from May 31st.

The HTC Merge has been priced up at $149.99, although we do have to point out that price comes after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a 2-year contract. As a reminder, the handset is powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7630 processor and comes with a 3.8-inch WVGA touch screen display.

Other specs include a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (ideal for those that don’t like using virtual keyboards), GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a 1400 mAh battery, a 5MP camera with flash and HD video capture, the latest version of HTC Sense and a microSD card slot with an 8GB card included.

Will you be picking up the HTC Merge smartphone from US Cellular on May 31st?

Although we’ve been hearing a lot of different reports about the HTC Merge, the long-awaited CDMA / GSM “world phone” had not been made official. However, that has all changed now, as HTC has now made the Merge handset official and has even given us an update on its release.

According to a recent phonescoop.com article by Eric M. Zeman, the HTC Merge, which runs on the Android 2.2 operating system and features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, will be available through multiple North American carriers sometime this spring.

As Brad Molen over on the unwiredview.com website (via PRNewswire) recently reported, the HTC Merge also features a 5-megapixel camera that’s capable of capturing 720p HD video and 3G connectivity, which will make sharing your images with friends and family a quick and easy process.

The HTC FriendStream feature will enable users to stay in the loop with all their Flickr, Twitter and Facebook updates. Other features include integrated GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity. Unfortunately there has been no word of a price for the HTC Merge handset at this stage.

Are you looking to buy a new smartphone? If you are, does the HTC Merge tempt you in any way?

With the imminent arrival of the 4G LTE equipped HTC Thunderbolt smartphone on Verizon, some of you are probably wondering what happened to the HTC Merge handset, which was heavily leaked towards the end of the last year, but never actually saw a release.

The good news, is that we have an update on the handset for you now, as a new picture of the device has been obtained courtesy of Droid-Life, and it shows the device running on Alltel, yes the same carrier which Verizon bought in 2008.

Some of you may be disappointed about this, as it looks like the chances of it releasing on Verizon are dead and buried. While the specs of the handset aren’t amazing, most of you liked this handset because of the nifty looking keyboard, and if you aren’t in an area which Altel operate, you may not get the chance to use it.

Hopefully we’ll be hearing more about the HTC Merge on the Alltel network very soon. For now, give us your thoughts on the possible release – are you sad to hear this handset won’t release on Verizon?

Here is that famous hands-on video of the HTC Merge running on Verizon if you missed it before.

As reported from Engadget, an uploaded photo has confirmed that the ‘Body Glove’ snap-on case for the HTC Merge is available, and is obviously designed to protect the lovely metallic design of the handset.

It is getting to the point now, where we expect the HTC Merge, or Lexikon as it’s also known, to be announced at any moment by Verizon.

Don’t forget that the Merge will have support for both GSM and CDMA, and it will be packed with some decent specs such as a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 4.xx inch display, a 5 megapixel camera and Android 2.2 Froyo OS.

You can see the photo in question below. Let us know if you are planning on picking up the HTC Merge.

We have some exciting news for those of you looking for more information on the incoming HTC Merge handset, as it has been confirmed that the handset showed up on Verizon’s website accidentally, only to be removed shortly after.

Verizon had put up a user-friendly interactive 360 degrees view of the HTC Merge handset, allowing users to get a good close-up look at the handset, including how it looks when the slide-out QWERTY keyboard is pulled out.

However, Verizon soon pulled the 360 view after they picked up on their mistake, but luckily for you, the guys over at Android Central took a video of it so you can see it anyway.

We still don’t know exactly when the HTC Merge will be available, but judging by this recent Verizon leak, it must be coming before the end of the month.

We have some good news for those of you who are thinking of picking up the HTC Merge when it is finally announced by Verizon and HTC, as we have heard of a potential release date for the device, as well as some other very interesting details.

As reported from Phandroid, new information has revealed that the HTC Merge may be set to launch on Verizon on November 18th, which just so happens to be this coming Thursday.

Furthermore, Phandroid’s information also reveals that the handset which was also previously known as the HTC ‘Lexikon’, could be coming to market as a ‘Droid’ handset, meaning that it will most likely be the next Droid after the Droid 2 Global.

Nothing is confirmed yet though, but we’ll keep you updated on this one. It seems a bit too early for it to launch, without any specifc information being revealed first – what do you think? Check out a hands-on video of the Merge here.

A photo showing an internal Verizon document has recently appeared on Engadget, it looks pretty legit and talks about some of the upcoming smartphone launches they have planned for Q4 2010.

Sadly there is no sign of a Verizon iPhone, however there are four Android smartphones on their way, these are the Motorola Droid Pro, the Motorola Droid 2 Global, HTC Merge and LG enV Pro.

The Motorola Droid 2 was first revealed back in August, if you would like to find out more about this smartphone check out all of our previous Motorola Droid Pro posts here.

There is quite a lot of mystery surrounding the Motorola Droid 2 Global phone, recent rumors suggested that it would feature a 1.2GHz processor, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 5 megapixel camera, you can find out more here.

The HTC Merge is a regarded as a mid to high-end smartphone, it features an 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM, Android 2.2, a 5 megapixel camera and a 3.8-inch display, for more details check out all of our HTC Merge-related articles here.

Not too much is known about the LG enV Pro at the moment, therefore we will have to keep you posted as we find out more, so far rumors suggest that it will feature dual touchscreens, however this has not yet been confirmed.

As we find out more about these smartphones we will keep you posted, for fully detailed information check out the source link below.

Following on from our previous reports on the HTC Merge handset, we now have what looks to be the very first hands-on video of the still-unannounced device, which will be heading to Verizon in the near future.

The video comes to us courtesy of Android Central, who were also responsible for the first hands-on review which you can check out here.

It is obvious that they have somehow managed to obtain a handset before anyone else, so we’re glad that they are risking the wrath of HTC and Verizon to show the handset to everyone else, despite no official launch date yet.

Android Central has praised the build quality of the HTC Merge, saying that it feels very comfortable in the hand, although they also say that the specs are standard specs from HTC, with nothing sticking out from other handsets. You’ll see the 5MP camera, Android 2.2 Froyo UI, HTC Sense (old) and also Bing search as default as well.

If want to keep an eye out on this handset for Verizon Wireless, check out the video below and let us know your thoughts on it.

We have some good news for those of you planning to get the HTC Merge, or Lexikon on Verizon, as release date and price rumors are now starting to pour in – we have the first to share with you now.

According to this exclusive from Droid-Life, their sources have told them that the handset will be launching on Verizon on November 11th – which is a Thursday for your reference. It isn’t confirmed yet of course, but they do point out that Verizon has made a habit of releasing handsets in the past on this day.

As for price, they believe it will come in at the standard $199 price point, with a two year deal with Verizon and a mail-in rebate, probably $100.

Do you think the release date mentioned has any truth to it? That’s all their sources were willing to disclose, but we’ll let you know if there are further details. Don’t get there is a useful benchmark tests video here, and the first hands-on review here.

Are any of you seriously thinking of getting this handset? A final name would be nice first.
