We have some great news for patient HTC Legend owners now, as it looks like HTC are finally ready to answer your prayers with an unexpected update to Android 2.2 Froyo. We have some details on when you can expect to see it.

We say ‘unexpected’, as if you remember all those months back, the HTC Legend wasn’t on the list which was due for an upgrade to Froyo – as HTC seemingly cut off all handsets after the release of the HTC Desire.

However, that has all changed as HTC as confirmed via Facebook that Android 2.2 for the Legend will be going live ‘in the coming weeks’, hopefully that means by the end of the month. On an important note though, it looks like those of you who bought a HTC Legend outright, i.e – not on contract, will be receiving the update first, as HTC state it will take them longer to get the Froyo update for the carrier versions organised.

Whatever way you look at it, this is great news for the not-so-extinct Legend. For those of you that still have one in your possession, let us know your thoughts on this.

HTC India has recently been rolling out a firmware update for the HTC Legend smartphone, however don’t get too excited as this does not bring Android 2.2 FroYo.

As it has been rolled out in India it may mean that the update will launch in other regions soon, it will bring your handset to firmware version 2.05.720.21 and will patch plenty of bugs.

You may have already received the update, if not go to menu, settings, about phone, software information, here you should be able to manually check for updates, if it is live in your area it will install itself over-the-air, if not perhaps check again tomorrow.

From what we can see the only mentionable change is a fix which resolves the absence of a ring tone when you receive a call, for more information check out the source link below.

Have you installed the update? Notice any changed not mentioned here? If so, let us know in the comments section below.

Earlier this month we revealed that the HTC Legend was headed for Bell, we can now confirm that the handset can be purchased on the Canadian carrier today.

You can purchase the handset in-store or online today, you can either buy it contract-free for $399.95, or if you prefer pay $79.95 for the handset as part of a three-year deal.

With it’s 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, 5 megapixel camera, Android 2.1 OS and WiFi connectivity it should be a popular smartphone choice. Currently Bell offer the Nokia N97 or the BlackBerry Bold 9700 for $99.95, therefore at $79.95 the HTC Legend is wisely priced.

Later this month the iPhone 4 will arrive, which means that the richer Bell customers will no doubt buy it, therefore if you are a bit less well off perhaps consider the HTC Legend, it should offer a pretty decent all-round smartphone experience.

Today Canadian readers will probably be glad to hear that Virgin Mobile customers will be able to get their hands on the HTC Legend, however if you prefer Bell you will not have to wait too long as it will be available from June 16th.

Just to recap the HTC Legend is a pretty desirable smartphone, it features a 3.2 inch capacitive display (320x 480), a 5 megapixel camera, 600MHz processor, Android 2.1, HTC Sense UI, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. It also features a microSD memory card slot which supports memory cards of up to 32GB.

Today Virgin Mobile are offering the HTC Legend for $79.99 as part of a 3-year agreement, alternatively you can purchase the Legend on a month-to-month basis for $349.99, however if you live in Manitoba or Saskatchewan the Legend is not available due to “network differences”.

Currently we cannot confirm how much Bell will be offering the handset for, however I doubt they will offer the handset any cheaper than Virgin’s $79.99 as part of a 3-year agreement pricing, especially as the iPhone 3GS is currently priced at $199 as part as a 3-year deal.

Would you pay more for a Virgin Mobile HTC Legend?

It has been confirmed that Bell will indeed get the exclusivity deal with the HTC Legend, and what a better way to celebrate it than to have a launch party.

It seems that Bell want to hype up the capture of the Legend, and by doing so they have arranged a special launch party due to take place on May 27th.

Whether or not this will mark the ‘official’ release of the HTC Legend is not confirmed, but we are expecting it to be released late this month, early next (May / June).

Still no information on the pricing either, I guess we will just have to wait until the launch party is over for a more accurate decision.

What do you think about Bell acquiring the HTC Legend? Will you be picking it up over the other choices in the market?

We have some exciting news for AT&T customers in the U.S now, as we are hearing reports that the HTC Legend phone could be landing on the network soon – after it was spotted on the FCC website.

As reported from BGR, the Legend was first spotted back in February with a FCC ID of B76100, but this time it has been approved with the same label, but with added support for the 850/1900 MHz bands of W-CDMA.

You wont need us to tell you that these are the bands which AT&T support, so if you put 2+2 together – the HTC Legend could be landing very soon indeed.

How do you feel about this? It is the natural successor to the popular HTC Hero device, but will you still pick it up, or do you have your eyes on another handset in the market?

We have some good news for HTC Legend handset owners in Europe now, as HTC has just issued an OTA update which will fix up a camera-related application bug that has been troubling users for a while now.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, applications such as Twidroid, MySpace Mobile and FXCamera were all missing from the handset, due to a bug within the camera which stopped users downloading the apps.

The recent update from HTC fixes this though – so you can finally make use of these apps. Since the update is OTA, you won’t have to download anything. Just wait for the notification and follow the instructions to install.

As reported from WirelessGoodness, the Legend went through FCC testing, identified only as the ‘HTC PB76100′, but the handset has now been confirmed as the Legend.

There are a few close up pictures in the link above for you to take a look at, mainly the slide-out battery/sim card cover which also conceals the MicroSD slot located above the battery.

We’ll let you know once we have solid release details, let us know if you’ll be picking up the phone or if you are waiting for something better.

You may recall hearing about the upcoming HTC Legend a few weeks ago, when HTC’s handset lineup for 2010 was leaked in a recent roadmap. Well now, we have a much better close-up look at the HTC Legend for you to take a look at.

As reported from BGR, the new image gives you a chance to see the impressive AMOLED screen in all it’s glory. Many HTC fans are getting especially excited, as this handset is looking to be the follow up to the hugely successful HTC Hero handset.

Key things to point out about the AMOLED Legend, is that the trackball is now gone, and it sports a metal chassis – giving the overall look of the phone, that stylish edge.

Take a look at the picture of the HTC Legend for yourself, and let us know your thoughts on it.
