While Sprint has just unveiled their flagship EVO 4G LTE smartphone, Verizon on the other hand have been a bit quiet lately. Their next handset may end up being the Droid Incredible 4G, but rather than a step forward from the Galaxy Nexus, consumers may be worried that the handset is actually taking two steps back.

Alleged images of the handset have now started to appear all over the internet, as well as purported specs for the device. A lot of you are very happy with the HTC Rezound and the Galaxy Nexus at the moment, so it’s obvious that if Verizon are going to introduce yet another handset to consumers, it will need to be at least as good as the two mentioned handsets if not better.

Unfortunately, we’re not seeing evidence of that here with the Incredible 4G based on these shots. The handset doesn’t look too enticing from a design point of view, and we’re not sure what is up with the back casing of the device, if an image provided by Android Police proves to be legit.

Design aside, we’re not too impressed with the specs either. Sprint and AT&T customers will soon be able to boast quad-core processors with the respective Optimus 4X and HTC One X (International version) smartphones, but Verizon are still making customers wait it seems – with 4G LTE being the main barrier.

The Incredible 4G looks to be equipped with a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and although it may be one of the new Snapdragon S4 chips, Verizon customers would really want something groundbreaking like a quad-core chip if they are going to part ways with the Rezound or Galaxy Nexus. We’re hearing that the device will still come with a VGA quality front-camera as well which is pretty embarrassing, while there’s no mention of HD Voice as well like the HTC EVO 4G LTE has on Sprint.

The name of the device warrants some ‘Incredible’ specs to match, but we’re not seeing them at the moment. Let’s hope that the handset has some other incredible features as a saving grace, because as it stands – we doubt that you’ll be dropping your current handset for one of these just yet.

Take a look at the images over at Android Police and give us your initial reaction to the Incredible 4G. Would you trade in your current Verizon handset for this, or do you need to see more?
