As reported from Phandroid, we’re guessing that HTC Hero owners will be the happier of the two, as your handset will now reap the benefits of Android 2.1 Eclair, no longer will you have to hide your phone away in embarrasment.

As for Desire owners on TELUS, you’ll be equally as pleased to hear that an update to Android 2.2 Froyo is now available to download.

You can get the HTC Hero update on the official support page here, while the HTC Desire Froyo will now be rolling out OTA.

We have some great news for HTC Hero owners now, as we can confirm that the update to Android 2.1 Eclair is finally to download to those of you with unlocked handsets.

As reported from Engadget, users with the GSM Hero will be getting notifications from HTC that the update to 2.1 is now available. The download is size is almost 80MB and works with no apparent problems, despite HTC previously warning that this update may harm some installed apps.

Thankfully though, that isnt the case as the update is also working fine on our unlocked device. As for those of you on Orange or T-Mobile, there doesn’t appear to be any signs of the update for you – hopefully now that the update is available for unlocked devices, you shouldn’t have to wait for too long.

Have you received the notification yet? Let us know your thoughts after installation!

Sprint users who own the HTC Hero may have already download the early release of the latest Android 2.1 Eclair update, but for those of you who would rather wait until an official Sprint release. Now is the time.

In a previous post, we mentioned that the Android OS 2.1 update was ready for your HTC Hero to consume, but was not available on Sprint’s support pages at time of writing.

To download the update, all you need to do is head on over to Sprint’s website and follow the steps which will allow you to make your HTC Hero feel all brand spanking new again.

If you are still unsure of how you can update to the latest version, a video guide can be found in one of our previous posts here.

Have you downloaded the Android OS 2.1 update? If so, have you experienced any problems?

Some interesting news to bring you now, as a custom branded HTC Hero has been spotted in the wild, running on none other than the Cox Cable network.

As reported from Android Central, Cox Cable are strongly tipped to be moving into the wireless network game, and this article does a good job in proving this claim.

If you head to the link above, you’ll be able to see a series of images which show the HTC Hero, running on Cox Cable’s wireless network. This is the Sprint-based design of the Hero and looks to be running Android OS 1.5.

If the images are real, it will be very interesting to see what Cox can come up with, in terms of features that they would hope to persuade consumers with.

There is a video through the link. What do you make of the Cox branded HTC Hero?

This is the moment that HTC Hero owners on Sprint have been waiting for. This isn’t an official release by Sprint yet, but it looks like the ‘official’ update – obtained ‘early’ and is available to download now.

As reported from Android Central, you can download the Android OS 2.1 update for your HTC Hero at this link. While we say use at your own risk since this hasn’t been made official by Sprint, the majority of users over at Android Central have already downloaded and installed – and said that this is the real deal!

Apparently Sprint has already said in customer calls that this is the official update, so it looks pretty safe to try out. It looks like the update came straight after the release for the Samsung Moment that we told you about yesterday.

What are you waiting for? Go and try it for yourself. Please let us know if you have any problems after installing. Good luck!

Don’t forget that this comes straight after it was rumored that the update would be landing on 7th May, only for a Sprint Admin to then post a message defueling the rumors.

However, a new message from Sprint reads like this: ”We are on track for the upgrade to be available in Q2. Sprint had hoped to have this resolved by now – we thank our customers for their patience as we work to bring them a positive experience with this upgrade.”

So it now looks likely that HTC Hero owners on Sprint will see the update in June or July – shame they couldn’t narrow it down further.

Are you fed up with all of the delays? Let us know what you are planning to do.

What on earth is Sprint trying to do to their customers? Yesterday we informed you that the 2.1 update to Android would finally be coming tomorrow, since a Best Buy leak seemingly confirmed this in black and white, but now a Sprint admin on the official forums has once again thrown everything into chaos.

If you head over to the Sprint Forums, and the thread which details the Best Buy leak we mentioned, you’ll see that an admin has closed the thread with the following message:

”Closing this thread because I don’t want folks to think that 2.1 is coming out on the 7th.”

So it appears that not only was the Best Buy ‘leak’ incorrect, Sprint customers have once again got their hopes up, only to be let down by their carrier.

When will the madness end we wonder? If they are trying to keep their customers from switching carrier, they are not doing a very good job of it.

Let us know your thoughts on this.

For those of you that are still interested, it looks like we finally have a solid release date for the HTC Hero update to Android 2.1. After all the delays though – are you still bothered about this?

As reported from Examiner, a fresh image leak from Best Buy has revealed that the update will be landing on May 7th – which is this Friday. You can read details from the image here to see for yourself.

You also should be aware that the 2.1 update won’t be available OTA. You’ll instead have to download it from the HTC website, but that shouldn’t be a problem for most of you.

No official word from Sprint or HTC yet, but this looks like the real thing guys. Let us know your thoughts on this. Any of you still desperate for the 2.1 update?

Well, we’re not sure how to break it to you guys, but it seems like the HTC Hero update to Android 2.1 has been delayed yet again. Instead of getting the update sometime in May as expected, you’ll now receive it in June.

As reported from T3, HTC has now issued a fresh statement regarding the highly anticipated update – and it is not good news. Despite all the numerous delays so far, HTC failed to acknowledge user’s frustrations, but instead had this to say about the update:

“HTC will be providing a free update to Éclair for European HTC Hero variants. Starting in June, anyone owning an HTC Hero will receive an initial preparatory update, shortly followed by the full Éclair update.”

Yet another bombshell by HTC Hero. Are you seriously considering updating via other methods, or will you patiently wait it out until June?

You never know guys, the iPhone 4G might be out by then. Let us know your reaction to this latest delay.
