We can tell you that this is actually a new build of Gingerbread, as the build released in September contained various bugs which HTC deemed sufficient enough to pull the update. For those that are still rocking Android 2.2 Froyo, you may want to head to your settings now and check to see if there’s an update available.

If there is, you should see the build number of 4.08.605.2 ready and waiting to download, with the install size reportedly coming in at just 6.7MB. Once updated, your Droid Incredible should be updated to version 2.3.4 of Gingerbread – so yeah, still not the latest version (2.3.5) which is pretty laughable when you think that the first Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 phone is due to hit Europe in a few days time.

Changes listed by HTC in the new update include improved Bluetooth functionality, a fix to the low memory message related to SMS, voice command fixes, tweaks to GPS and a fix regarding app loading problems when using an SD card. You can view Verizon’s update document here, courtesy of Droid-Life.

If you haven’t updated yet, try it out now and let us know how you get on. We’ve heard that some people have had problems mounting apps of the SD card, so check this aspect out specifically and report back to us with your findings. On a side note, what are your thoughts on HTC only issuing Gingerbread now for the Droid Incredible? Does it make you worried for future updates for handsets like the Rezound? This is one reason alone that many consumers will opt for the Galaxy Nexus since it will get all software updates first before any other Android handset.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread: HTC Phone Updates – Wanted List? http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/12/09/android-2-3-gingerbread-htc-phone-updates-wanted-list/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/12/09/android-2-3-gingerbread-htc-phone-updates-wanted-list/#comments Thu, 09 Dec 2010 03:32:25 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=116728 Now that Android 2.3 Gingerbread has finally had an official announcement and will be heading to the Samsung Nexus S first, the focus is now switching to other handsets, as the big question is: ”Will my phone receive an update to Gingerbread?”

If you have a fairly new handset, there is a good chance that you will get Gingerbread at some point down the line, but those of you who have a slightly outdated handset, should expect disappointment as we all know how long it has taken for Froyo to rollout to every handset.

The good news, is that HTC has already given a confirmation that a select number of their handsets will be receiving an update to Gingerbread, although they obviously haven’t named which ones yet. If you own a HTC handset such as a Droid Incredible or an HTC EVO, we are willing to bet good money that you’ll get a Gingerbread update at some point next year, especially considering that these are two of HTC’s most popular handsets on the market.

The recently released T-Mobile G2 and Desire HD should also get Gingerbread updates, as should the Desire Z which is also one of HTC’s newest handsets.

Which HTC Android handset do you own? Once we get some feedback, we’ll update this with relevant Gingerbread information, so you know where you stand with regards to a future update or not.

Verizon Android App Store Launches Next Week http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/11/05/verizon-android-app-store-launches-next-week/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/11/05/verizon-android-app-store-launches-next-week/#comments Thu, 04 Nov 2010 23:44:24 +0000 Jamie Pert http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=112792 Android users are about to be treated to another place to shop in the form of Verizon’s Android V Cast App store which officially opens it’s doors next week, we can confirm.

According to an article at PC World, they say that Verizon’s Android App Store will be officially launched for the HTC Droid Incredible, where you will receive a software update that will also gift you with bags full of improvements to the phone. Other Verizon Android devices and handsets will be launching with the App Store at somepoint in the future.

But what is the point of this App Store you may speaketh? According to an employee of Verizon, the store wont override that of the Google Android Market, and will simply be a secondary option that is built into the devices.

In a way, Verizon’s App Store will mimic that of the Android Store, for the developer and the consumer. But it is thought that the Verizon App Store will offer opportunities for “promotion and discoverability,” unlike the Android Market.

All in all, I’m personally not sure what the point of the App Store is, as i’m told that Amazon, and Vodafone have also stated that they will be making their own App Store’s for Android.

Do you think that the multiple app stores could cause issues for both users and developers?

HTC Droid Incredible, G2 and Desire Z: Download Source Codes Now http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/11/03/htc-droid-incredible-g2-and-desire-z-download-source-codes-now/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/11/03/htc-droid-incredible-g2-and-desire-z-download-source-codes-now/#comments Wed, 03 Nov 2010 06:46:25 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=112541 We have some good news for the Android community now, as HTC has just released the official source codes for the HTC Droid Incredible (new version), HTC Desire Z and the recently released T-Mobile G2.

As reported from Phandroid, you’ll find the download links for each handset over on the official HTC website here, there are also a full list of other handsets which HTC has provided some developer goodies for.

What does this mean for the average G2, Incredible or Desire Z owner though? Well basically, the release of the source code allows developers to work on some cool applications and Android OS tweaks specific for that device, while the naughty developers will get straight to work on some custom Android 2.2 Froyo ROMs.

If obtaining the source code interests you, head to HTC’s site above to download.

Verizon Motorola Droid 2 Price Cut: Droid 2 Release Date Close? http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/11/01/verizon-motorola-droid-2-price-cut-droid-2-release-date-close/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/11/01/verizon-motorola-droid-2-price-cut-droid-2-release-date-close/#comments Mon, 01 Nov 2010 22:31:58 +0000 Jamie Pert http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=112386 Much has been said about the impending release of the Droid 2 Global Edition, and although we have no concrete information on a date of release as of yet, we have also been wondering what would happen to the Droid 2 — Now, we have more of an idea.

The Global Edtion of the Droid 2 has been popping up all over the place, and according to a report from Droid-Life, November 11 will be the date you can expect to see the handset come to life.

This has left the Droid 2 feeling a tiny bit unwanted, but don’t fret as the ye-old Droid 2 is not going away just yet. You will be able to get this baby for $149.99 via the Verizon website, and it is expected to be available for that price till around January next year. You can see proof of this in the screenshot we have posted below.

But that is not all as the hugely sought after HTC Droid Incredible has also fallen in price down to $150 too.

Infact, the Droid Incredible is still incredibly popular around the world meaning that the Droid 2 might be in for a hard time when it comes to sales figures.

With both phones now available at a similar price, what phone would you go for if you had to make a choice? Decisions, decisions…

Droid 2 and Droid Incredible: Free at Best Buy http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/10/29/droid-2-and-droid-incredible-free-at-best-buy/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/10/29/droid-2-and-droid-incredible-free-at-best-buy/#comments Fri, 29 Oct 2010 06:49:18 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=112149 If you still haven’t joined the Android bandwagon and are looking to do so this holiday season, you’ll probably want to know about Best Buy’s special smartphone deals that they hold every Friday.

As reported from Droid-Life, some screenshots have confirmed that Best Buy will be giving consumers the chance to pick up the hugely popular Droid Incredible handset, along with the recently released Motorola Droid 2, for free whenever you sign up for a contract.

What does ‘free’ exactly entail though? Well basically, as long as sign up to either a New Family Plan or a 2-Year Upgrade Plan, both phones will be excused from the usual on-top fees that you’d normally pay for these.

More details on this can be read over at Droid-Life, but you might want to head down to your nearest Best Buy store today to check it out for yourself.

HTC Desire HD: Download ROM for Droid Incredible – How To Guide http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/24/htc-desire-hd-download-rom-for-droid-incredible-how-to-guide/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/24/htc-desire-hd-download-rom-for-droid-incredible-how-to-guide/#comments Fri, 24 Sep 2010 03:28:59 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=109308 The HTC Desire HD was only announced last week, but somehow hackers have managed to copy and duplicate the entire ROM for the phone. It is now available to download for the original Desire and also the HTC Droid Incredible.

As reported from Phandroid, this of course means that the HTC Droid Incredible running the HTC Desire HD ROM will be able enjoy the new HTC Sense features, while Phandroid also states that speed has been improved as well.

However, you might want to hold off from installing this straight away, as there is a few known glitches and there is also no support for the camera function. This will probably get enabled though later on down the line.

If you’re interested in trying this out, a full tutorial guide can be seen over at XDA-Developers Forum here. Did it work for you?

According to this report from Phandroid, the Spanish HTC Twitter account revealed some very interesting details about the new HTC Sense UI – unveiled by the company at an event in London alongside the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z smartphones.

According to a tweet which has been translated, all other HTC handsets running Android 2.2 Froyo would be getting the new Sense UI, which obviously includes the likes of the Desire, HTC EVO 4G and Droid Incredible too.

If the news is legitimate, then it is great news for sure. Hopefully we’ll be able to confirm this for you soon, let us know your thoughts on this.

Do you like the new look of the updated Sense UI?

HTC Droid Incredible: Android 2.2 Froyo and SLCD Pre-loaded at Best Buy http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/20/htc-droid-incredible-android-2-2-froyo-and-slcd-pre-loaded-at-best-buy/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/20/htc-droid-incredible-android-2-2-froyo-and-slcd-pre-loaded-at-best-buy/#comments Mon, 20 Sep 2010 07:53:24 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=108897 Remember how we told you that HTC would be replacing AMOLED screens with SLCD screens for new Droid Incredible handsets? Well it turns out that they are available to purchase at Best Buy right now!

According to this report from Droid-Life, the retailer is already selling the new Droid Incredible units, but with another major inclusion from the original Droid Incredible.

Not only will you get an SLCD instead of AMOLED, you’ll also get Android 2.2 Froyo straight out of the box! Some pictures over at Droid-Life showing the software version on the retail box confirms this for us.

If this is true, then it is pretty good of Verizon and HTC to include Froyo for all new buyers – we didn’t expect that. Hopefully it improves battery life on the handset too.

Can any of you confirm this via your local Best Buy store?

HTC Droid Incredible: New SLCD Units – Verizon Release Date Hints http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/14/htc-droid-incredible-new-slcd-units-verizon-release-date-hints/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/14/htc-droid-incredible-new-slcd-units-verizon-release-date-hints/#comments Tue, 14 Sep 2010 03:08:15 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=108462 We have some important news if you are planning to pick up a HTC Droid Incredible in the coming weeks, as HTC has confirmed that all new models will ship with an SLCD screen, rather than the original AMOLED screen.

As reported from Droid-Life, HTC confirmed the news earlier on today, but a new Verizon document has clarified that this will affect all new models of the Droid Incredible handset.

HTC has said that the new models will be available ‘at the end of the Summer’, but Verizon’s document says the ‘end of September’ – which one is correct?

Droid-Life point out that the inclusion of a SLCD screen rather than AMOLED may help to reduce battery life problems, which is becoming quite a problem for Incredible owners at the moment.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you happy with an SLCD screen or not?
