We have some good news for those of you who have ordered a HP Slate tablet, as we are hearing reports that the device is finally starting to ship. We want to know if you have received any shipping notifications or not.

As reported from Engadget, one user has already confirmed that their HP Slate is on the way via FedEx, and that he’ll be expecting his lovely new Slate to arrive on December 6th, which falls on a Monday just to let you know.

As Engadget point out, this could either be a minor case and perhaps a mistake on HP or FedEx’ part, or the HP’s Slate is indeed shipping out on Monday.

If you have pre-ordered one of the devices, it might be a good idea to check your email box to see if you have any shipping notifications. Let us know the results.

For those of you who were wondering what happened to the HP Slate tablet, we can now confirm that it is finally available to buy online. You may be surprised to see that HP has slapped a $800 price tag on the device though.

After all the commotion involving Verizon’s $600 Samsung Galaxy Tab price, HP has conveniently decided that now is the right time to release their HP Slate 500 tablet.

Another big move that you need to consider, is that HP has stated that the Slate is now aimed at Enterprise and Business users, and not consumers – hence the premium price.

Specs of the 8.9-inch device include a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, 2GB of RAM, 1080p video support and a 64GB SSD. You’ll also get front and back cameras and Windows 7 Professional OS.

If you’re interested in picking one up, it is available to buy from HP’s website now. We’re sure that many of you are not too impressed with the price tag though. It may be worth your while holding off until next year, when HP release a consumer-aimed webOS tablet.

More details over at Engadget.

The history of the HP Slate is like a soap opera marriage, one minute it is on – the next it is off. However, we now know the tablet device is a go and we have located a leaked video review of the device, which you can see for yourself below.

Hewlett Packard has yet to make an official announcement of the device, but we know that the thing is coming – we just do not know when. The smart money would be in the next couple of months, as this is when the likes of Samsung with their Galaxy Tab and other Android based tablet devices are expected to hit the market.

According to Stuart Miles from Pocket-lint, who spent some time looking over the video, the back of the device looks to have a rubberized finish. You will notice that there is a 3-megapixel camera on the rear, along with a front-facing one – something that is not on the current iPad. However, it is expected to be included on the iPad 2, which is rumored to be released before Christmas.

The HP Slate is running on Windows 7, and the video shows that it takes just 40 seconds to boot; you will also notice how fast web browsing is. Has HP got it right with the design of their Slate device?

During CES 2010 HP announced that they would work with Microsoft on a tablet device, and that it would run on Windows 7. However, since Hewlett Packard purchased Palm, the plans were reported to have been scrapped. Since then we have had a lot of conflicting reports over the HP tablet, but we can now tell you that the device is back on, and that there is to be a choice of webOS and Windows.

Until now Apple has had the tablet market all it themselves, this news will not be good for the iPad, as the HP Slate or whatever it will be called looks set to offer more performance, as well as Flash Player support.

According to Ed Oswald from Technologizer, he wrote on PC World that the webOS version could be called the PalmPad and will be ready for release in early 2011. We do not have any spec details, but at least we know that the device exists now.

Oswald points to the fact that the delay has been good for the Apple iPad, and I am surprised that the Cupertino company has had the market all to itself for eight months so far in 2010. We had assumed that other tablet devices would have hit the market by now, we said earlier this year that 2010 would be the year of the tablet device. This was correct, but only if your name was Apple.

Since HP acquired Palm there have been plenty of rumors floating about which suggest that a webOS tablet could be on the way, well we are now hearing more rumors which apparently confirm the codename for the device along with a release period.

According to sources the HP tablet will run webOS and should arrive during Q1 2011, apparently HP have codenamed the project “Hurricane”, however it is doubtful that this will be the devices name when it launches.

This article heavily depends on just how reliable Engadget’s sources really are, I must say that a webOS based tablet sounds a lot more appealing than a Windows 7-based tablet, especially when taking into account battery life and mobile apps.

So what do you make of this news? Do you think a webOS tablet can compete with the iPad?
