The last few months seem to have been dominated with Android tablet news mixed in with some iPad rumors, however we now have details regarding a Windows-based tablet which Samsung may be working on.

Apparently this device will be called the Samsung Gloria, it is rumored to run Windows 7 (Starter Edition) and features a 10-inch touchscreen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a custom user interface.

We have embedded a mock-up of this device below, to be honest with you I am worried about its physical design, let’s face it to run Windows 7 it will need some decent hardware within, which will probably make it heavy, also the iPad is not small with its 10-inch display, therefore strapping a QWERTY keyboard onto a device with a similar form-factor will make it pretty big.

At the moment Samsung has not officially announced the Gloria tablet, therefore it is unclear as to whether this device will ever materialize, personally I would much prefer to see a Samsung Galaxy Tab with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

SlashGear’s sources suggest that this device will be released in early-mid 2011, if this is true we would imagine more details will be revealed soon, as we hear more we will keep you posted.

It will be interesting to see how the Gloria will compare to the HP Slate 500 in terms of specs and price, this tablet retails for $799.00 and features an 8.9-inch display, an Intel Atom Z540 processor, up to 64GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM, you can find out more here.

Yesterday we revealed the HP Slate 500 price and target market, now we thought that we would see what consumers thought about the choice of operating system.

The HP Slate 500 runs Windows 7 Professional, whilst this is great for people who are used to Windows it isn’t really what experts regard as a mobile operating system, some people say that it would have been much better of running Palm webOS.

In July HP acquired Palm, some people believed that webOS was the main attraction and could perhaps be used on a future iPad competitor, however the release of the HP Slate 500 suggests that this may not be HP’s long-term plan.

It could well be that HP think that Windows 7 Professional is better for an enterprise tablet, whilst webOS is more suited to the consumer market, perhaps we will see a HP tablet release running webOS in the near future.

A webOS-based tablet in my opinion would be more intuitive and have lower hardware requirements than a Windows 7-based tablet, great performance from lower spec hardware also means that battery life would be great, do you think a webOS-based tablet would be a far better overall product?

For those of you who were wondering what happened to the HP Slate tablet, we can now confirm that it is finally available to buy online. You may be surprised to see that HP has slapped a $800 price tag on the device though.

After all the commotion involving Verizon’s $600 Samsung Galaxy Tab price, HP has conveniently decided that now is the right time to release their HP Slate 500 tablet.

Another big move that you need to consider, is that HP has stated that the Slate is now aimed at Enterprise and Business users, and not consumers – hence the premium price.

Specs of the 8.9-inch device include a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, 2GB of RAM, 1080p video support and a 64GB SSD. You’ll also get front and back cameras and Windows 7 Professional OS.

If you’re interested in picking one up, it is available to buy from HP’s website now. We’re sure that many of you are not too impressed with the price tag though. It may be worth your while holding off until next year, when HP release a consumer-aimed webOS tablet.

More details over at Engadget.
