According to an article over at slashgear.com by Shane McGlaun, the Palm Pre 3 is available to pre-order now, with shipping down as July 8th. The SIM-free, unlocked price of the Pre 3 smartphone – which runs WebOS 2.2 and is powered by a 1.4GHz Scorpion CPU with a Qualcomm MSM8655 chipset – is £349.99.

The Palm Pre 3, which weighs 156g and measures 111 x 64 16mm, comes with some pretty decent specifications including a 3.58-inch TFT capacitive touch screen with a 480 x 800 resolution, 16GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM and a landscape slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The handset has Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) connectivity, and will work on 3G networks. Other features include a 5MP rear camera, active noise cancellation with the built-in microphone, a digital compass, Assisted GPS and support for both MP3 and MP4 files.

The guys over at Pre Central are the ones we need to thank for the pictures, as their source has provided them with both images – one of the Pre 3 and one of a new device which doesn’t feature a slide-out keyboard. It does look a bit like the HTC EVO we have to say as well, but obviously this one will be running webOS rather than Android.

As for the Palm Pre 3, it’s still very much an elusive device, with no word on when the device will be coming out – but this latest leak may be an indication that HP and Palm are ready to release this at some point this year. Since both devices are unofficial and HP are probably not too happy about the leak, we’ll not post the pictures here, but they are up at Pre Central at the moment for all to see.

The original Palm Pre measured in at 59.5 x 100.5 x 16.95mm and weighed 135 grams, at 64 x 111 x 16mm and weighing 156 grams the HP Pre 3 is wider, longer and heavier than the first Pre, however it is 0.95mm thinner.

As you can see the Pre 3 has improved on everything the original Pre had to offer, also the Pre 3 is capable of 720p HD video capture and the new version of webOS is faster and more intuitive than previous releases, therefore if you owned the first Palm Pre you should seriously consider upgrading to the Pre 3 when it arrives in the summer.

Sadly we cannot embed the hands-on video on this page, therefore head over to Engadget to watch it, the video is not very in-depth, however does give us a quick look at the Pre 3′s physical design and its super-speedy performance.

It is hard to ignore just how quick webOS performs, also Engadget claim that the Pre 3′s build quality feels good and the 3.6-inch display’s 480 x 800 resolution really shows off the impressive UI, also the QWERTY keyboard is said to be fantastic, however one slight concern is that there seems to be a little bit of give with the sliding mechanism.

You can see a ful gallery of Pre 3 photos here, you will notice that the Palm logo is long gone and now there is HP branding on the back, you can see some photos of the Touchstone 2 here, also you may want to check out IntoMobile’s review, they say that the Pre 3 is as impressive as webOS 2.1 and by the looks of things webOS 2.1 is the biggest rival to iOS.

Let us start with the most impressive thing about this smartphone, its processor, the Palm Pre 3 features a Qualcomm MSM 8X55 which has a clock speed of 1.4GHz, this is far faster than the high-end Android smartphones we have seen recently, currently quite a few Motorola, Samsung and HTC models feature 1.0Ghz chips, which is 400MHz slower than the Pre 3′s.

The rest of the specs are also impressive, you get a 3.58-inch touchscreen display which offers a resolution of 480 x 800, it also supports mutli-touch gestures and outputs 24-bit color, there is also a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus an LED flash and 720p HD video capture, a VGA front-facing camera, WiFi b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, WiFi hotspot functionality, 512MB of RAM, either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage and a 1230 mAh battery.

Less interesting specs include a 3.5mm headset port, HP Touchstone7 functionality and a range of sensors including proximity, compass, ambient light and accelerometer, finally the dual-mic offers noise cancellation, you can see the full-list of official specs here.

Soon we will post more details about this impressive sounding smartphone, hopefully with some pricing, carrier and release date info, I wonder how webOS will perform with a 1.4GHz processor…
