A growing number of people are turning to home theater systems to compliment their large screen HDTV. Many HDTVs have poor onboard speakers that don’t do those big movies justice on such a large screen, so either all-in-one systems, AV receivers, and sound bars are used. Today we have news that LG is to showcase some new home theater systems at CES 2012 in Las Vegas.

Consumers may want an all-in-one system because of space requirements and the fact all the components are available in one box. Although there are some great AV receiver bundles available from the likes of Onkyo these days as well.

Now LG has announced four new systems that will make their debut at the CES 2012 event next week. According to the press release these include the LG BH9420PW that will feature the company’s latest 3D sound technology. This promises to match the sound with the location and movement of the 3D images on the screen.

This is done by analyzing the depth of the objects displayed on the screen by a special algorithm, and according to LG it will “immerse and surround” users. This system offers 9.1 sound with some extra 3D speakers added to the traditional 5.1 setup.

There will also be Smart TV functionality that will offer LG’s 3D Zone content service, as well as 3D Blu-ray support. Currently there is no information on pricing or what countries can expect to receive the new hardware. The BH9420PW though is expected to hit stores this coming March, and we can expect to get more information at the CES event.

Which type of home theater system do you have?

Renowned speaker manufacturer Q Acoustics have long made affordable speaker ranges that sound a lot more expensive than what they cost. They offer a range of bookshelf units alongside floorstanders and home cinema solutions. Today we can tell you that Q Acoustics announces a new 2000i speaker range.

This is a complete new range by the company, and What Hi-Fi are reporting that category manager, Tony Jones, has said they are not only “clearly our best ever range” and also “’sonically the best affordable speakers ever produced”.

The company has managed to do this by exploiting “the very latest breakthroughs in materials technology”. The new range that will land in the shops next month, and according to the company every part of the new units have been custom designed.

There is a brand new 25mm twitter that is used across the entire range, and uses a multilayer diaphragm material. This is mounted into the baffle using a method described by the company as Super-decoupling.

A new cone material is now used for the mid/bass drivers, which is now made from a ceramic coated paper and carbon fiber. This is claimed to provide a sweeter treble with improved imaging and wider soundstage from the tweeter. The woofer now has a cleaner and more open sound, and the crossovers have also been enhanced.

The terminals are now mounted on a recessed plate on the underneath of the cabinet. As always you get a nice choice of colors to choose from including the standard black, walnut, or for a little more the piano black or white.

Q Acoustics new range starts at £120 for the 2010i or £160 for the premium color finishes, which has a 10cm driver. Further up the range the 2020i that costs £160/£200 and comes with a 25cm woofer, and the only floorstanders in the range is the 2050i that starts at £420.

There is of course a centre speaker in the range, and the 2000Ci with two 10cm drivers costs £105/£130. A subwoofer is included in the range, the 2070si uses 140w amp with two long-throw 17cm woofers and costs £250/£300.

A 5.1 surround pack is available that has four 2010is, 2000Ci centre, 2070si subwoofer, and costs £595 for standard finishes going up to £750 for the premium colors. Last year I upgraded my speakers for my home cinema set up with older Q Acoustics 1010is, and have found them to be great sounding and pleasing to the eye.

So these new speakers that are higher up in the Q Acoustics range are bound to sound really good for a reasonable price. Do you own any Q Acoustics speakers?

I have to admit, up until now I’d never even heard of an inflatable home theater system, but I now know that they do exist. If you love entertaining and have a big enough garden, then you may like to know about the two separate kits that are available at Target.

The first one I’d like to mention has a screen size of 9 foot wide x 5 foot tall, with a total diagonal measurement of 123 inches. The projector features digital zoom, 4000 hours lamp life, a brightness of 2800 Lumens and a projection distance of 18 feet.

It also features a contrast ratio of 3000:1, a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768, and a 170-degree viewing angle. The second one has a screen size of 16 foot wide x 9 foot tall, a diagonal measurement of 220 inches and is made of smooth Ripstop nylon that’s wrinkle resistant.

The projector can of course be used indoors or outdoors, and features integrated speakers, 4000 hours lamp life, a 3400 Lumens brightness and a projection distance of 32 feet. Both kits come with an air pump to inflate the screen, a carrying case, stakes and straps to secure it.

What do you think of these two great inflatable home theater kits? I’d love one if I had a big enough garden. You can read more about the 16 x 9 one here and the 9 x 5 one here.
