BAFTA Video Game Awards: Heavy Rain is Biggest Winner

Back in February we brought you a list of games that had been nominated for the Best Game award at this year’s BAFTA Video Game Awards. If you read our previous article, you will know that Heavy Rain, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 were among the said nominees.

As many of you will know the ceremony took place last night in London, which of course means that we can now bring you the results. According to a recent article at dailymail.co.uk, the film noir-inspired Heavy Rain became the biggest winner of the night, picking up a total of three gongs.

Unfortunately, the award for Best Game wasn’t among them. The PlayStation 3-exclusive did however pick up awards for Best Story, Technical Innovation and Original Music. In the meantime, the award for Best Game was given to BioWare’s action role-playing title Mass Effect 2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops didn’t go without an award either. The hugely popular first-person shooter was awarded the Game trophy, which is the only award that is voted for by the general public. The Best Family Game award went to Kinect Sports, while Cut the Rope won the award for Best Handheld Game.

Fable 3 Inspired by Heavy Rain and Uncharted

The constant arguments over which console is better out of the Xbox 360 and PS3 will never go away, as well as who has the better exclusives. However, did you know that there are certain games from one console that has shaped a game for another?

The game in question is Fable 3, it seems that there were two PlayStation 3 exclusives that helped influence the design director. Those games were Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2, which were revealed in a recent interview with CVG.

In the interview the guys behind Fable 3 said that during gameplay you will see a certain amount of influence from both the above mentioned games, but is this really a bad thing?

It does not matter what you do there are always influences; these include movies, commercials, songs, as well as other video games. However, we just hope that only the good things have been taken from both games and included in Fable 3.

Heavy Rain and PS3 Move: Will it work?

We have some interesting news for PS3 owners now, as we have apparently had a confirmation from Sony that Heavy Rain will be given an update this Autumn to allow for Playstation Move support.

As reported from VG247, Sony apparently confirmed the news in an Belgian gaming magazine. Interestingly, they later made a further statement to VG247, adding that they have ‘no comment’ and they ‘didn’t know where it had come from’.

As for the news itself – what do you think of it? In all fairness, Heavy Rain has a lot of scenes in the game where Move could be implemented effectively, so it does seem quite logical from Sony’s point of view.

Do you guys want it in there though, or would you rather the game be left alone in its current state. Give us your thoughts on this.

Heavy Rain PS3: DLC Release date and price confirmed

How are you finding Heavy Rain at the moment? Found all the endings yet? If you have, you’ll be pleased to know that Sony has confirmed a release date as well as a price for the first DLC content for the game.

As reported from Eurogamer, the first pack will be called ”Taxidermist” and will be available on April 1st – no joke.

It will feature around Madison Paige, as you’ll have to search for clues relating to the Origami Killer. As for the price, it will set you back $4.99 – which is pretty good isn’t it?

The news comes after Sony confimed that a patch was also in the works for the game. No release date for that yet, but it’s meant to be hitting very soon.

Heavy Rain (PS3): Its not for Nintendo Wii owners

Heres some pretty interesting news for you to read now, as David Cage – writer for PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain has stated that he isn’t sure if gamers playing Nintendo Wii titles such as Wii Fit, would jump into a game such as Heavy Rain.

As reported from VG247, Cage was talking about how a lot of gamers jumped straight into the Wii because of Wii Fit, the same way many PS3 owners did the same because the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player.

A quote from him reads: ”Are they going to jump from Wii Fit to Heavy Rain? I’m not sure.”. What are your thoughts on this?

As a Wii owner, maybe you’d like to come out and make some sort of defence case for your console. On a side note, a patch for Heavy Rain is expected soon – read more details on that here.

Heavy Rain (PS3): Patch update to fix freezing confirmed – Sony

It looks as if there is light at the end of the tunnel for PS3 owners of Heavy Rain, as Sony has just confirmed that a patch update will be releasing ‘very soon’ to fix up all of those freezing problems that you have been telling us about.

As reported from VG247, a Sony moderator has posted on the Heavy Rain forum, revealing that the patch is currently in the ‘final stage of testing’.

The main problem at hand, is the random game crashes and freezes during certain scenes – which you gave us feedback on here.

The mod explains that only a ‘small number’ of users were affected by problems on the game, but they remain ‘optimistic’ that the patch will solve all your problems.

Sony PS3: Heavy Rain takes top spot from Aliens Vs Predator

Following on from its release last week on the PS3, we can confirm that Heavy Rain – the exclusive PS3 thriller, has stormed to the top of the UK All-Formats chart.

As reported from Eurogamer, that of course knocks last weeks number one from the top, Aliens Vs Predator – which is now placed in second.

Despite frequent problems with Heavy Rain, it appears that it hasn’t caused a halt in sales of the game. You can read up on the problems, in our thread here – over 50 comments and counting.

Despite being released an eternity ago it seems, Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 remains in the top 5, whos to say that it wont remain there for the rest of the year – especially with the map packs due out soon!

PS3′s Heavy Rain: Is the patch update causing you problems?

How are you finding Heavy Rain at the moment? It has been reported that following a recent 230MB patch update to the game, some users have claimed that their copy is now suffering from various problems.

According to this article from Examiner, problems include freezing, issues relating to audio and problems when saving or loading up the game.

However, this is not affecting all of you – only a select few it seems. The most frequent problem appears to be random game crashes though, so lets hope that Quantic Dream are working on a fix to sort it out asap.

Have you noticed any of the problems mentioned above? Let us know how the game is handling for you, we’ll update you when we get more info.

9 minutes of PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain

For those Sony PS3 fans who have been anxiously waiting for the release of Heavy Rain, we have located the first 9 minutes of this highly anticipated game. The video that we have for you below has been getting some mixed reactions on the Gametrailers website, let us know what your thoughts are.

Some of the comments have been great to read though; one guy said that it was like Sony’s Home but with quick time events. He did add that it was a joke, but we have to wonder if there is some truth in that statement.

The video is in standard quality, would have been much better if the teaser would have been shown in High Definition. The first 9 minutes is a little confusing to us, as it looks, as though there will not be much game play.

However, one reader from Gametrailers did say that this was just the tutorial; its purpose is to immerse you into the game and teach you all the basics. If this is the case, then will be a little like Assassin’s Creed was. You will just have to be a little patient with the game at first.

This could go one of two ways for the game, gamers will love the idea of getting used to the controls or they will just get bored and stop playing. Some people want to buy Heavy Rain to start playing it from the moment it loads; the jury is certainly out on this one.

Heavy Rain (PS3): No Sequel Planned

Although the official release of Heavy Rain for the PS3 does not actually take place until February 23rd in the U.S. and February 26th in Europe it has not stopped people talking about a sequel, however it looks as if a sequel will not be being released.

The games creator David Cage has recently stated that “The game tells a full story, nothing is missing from it,” and added “The two DLC approach was to say, let’s work on prequel. What part of the characters to be who they are in Heavy Rain? What happened to them before?”

Boomtown suggest that a sequel to Heavy Rain could work like Final Fantasy, which basically means keep the gameplay and main backbone the same, however introduce a totally new set of characters and storyline.
