When it comes to the various measures that can be taken to reduce the spread of viruses Violight’s UV Cell Phone Sanitizer is a great way to keep those germs and bacteria down to a minimum, as well as keeping your smartphone clean and dirt free. Our hands contain plenty of germs even if we wash them on a regular basis, but what is the point when you are constantly using a cell phone that also has a fair amount of bacteria?

This is a great idea for certain times of the year when viruses like the flu can spread effortlessly. Therefore, those concerned with the amount of dirt their phone picks up on a daily basis may feel that Violight’s UV Cell Phone Sanitizer is the best way to counteract germs, dirt, dead skin cells and dust, which can make their way into the crevices of your phone.

The way it works is the basket introduces germicidal UV rays that attack the germs leaving your phone clean for use, and this is not only for your cell phone, as your MP3 player, earbuds and other small electronic items can also be treated, bearing in mind they fit comfortably in the basket with the lid on. Apparently, this takes five minutes and the UV rays kill 99.9% of the germs, without any harm to your beloved phone and costs around $49.95 on the official Violight site.

Those intrigued to see this in action should watch the short video below and see whether this may be the ideal sanitizer for your gadgets, and we know that those with children may feel this could be the answer to the constant spread of germs. The footage below comes from the appearance of Violight on the today show back in 2011 and we are interested to know your thoughts on this. Maybe this could be useful in higher risk areas like hospitals for nurses, doctors and visitors?

Most of us will know someone that suffers with a medical condition that takes over their life, and this means they need to change little things they do everyday, although it’s hard to understand the impact this can have until it happens to you or someone close to you.

I know a few people that suffer from Thyroid problems and seeing how hard it can be to get the treatment right has amazed me and I’m sure other people as well. Millions of people suffer from thyroid disease, and not many of these people know the ability apps have to help make things a little bit easier.

We wanted to point our readers in the direction of a simple app that will help put all your thyroid information and records right in your hands, or pocket shall we say, which is done by using an app that works on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The app is called Thyroid Tracker and allows you to use with more than one person if needed, keeps your information organized, tracks emergency contact details, multiple laboratories and doctors. The app was designed by a “fellow thyroid sufferer”, which is why you’ll be able to track so much useful information including symptoms you are experiencing, vital statistics, procedures, doctor visits, side-effects, tests and medications.

You can read the full details and download the app via iTunes. The only downside we can see is the price, and at $3.99 that is more than most applications. The app was only just updated last week, and the current version of Thyroid Tracker is 1.0.3. Do you use apps for any conditions you have, and if so feel free to name them in the comments?

The largest organ on our body is the skin, and is the one thing that most of us do not take care of. OK, we know that some of you apply cream to keep the skin soft, subtle and moisturized, but most do not. We live a busy life, and with ever changing weather conditions we certainly abuse it. However, help is at hand with a range of apps that will show you how to make your skin glow again.

Skin care Tips is our first app and at just $0.99 is a much cheaper option than those magazines that you pay for on a weekly or monthly basis. This app will teach you all the basics, such as good skin care, as well as how to cleanse and protect it against the sun. The list of tips is very informative and easy to navigate, and the best part is that you do not need to have an Internet connection to access the app. If you follow the tips on this app it will not be long before your skin is glowing once again.

There is yet another app called Skin Care Tips, but is very different to the one mentioned above. Again, this app will cost just $0.99, but the advice it offers seems a little better. There are just six tips in all, but they are what we believe to be the best advice on offer. Most people try to apply huge amounts of cream, only to find that the condition is not improving, in some cases even getting worse.

This app explains the basics to remedy this, such as what foods you should eat to help promote healthy skin. Also, how best to remove makeup, and different ways in order to avoid getting skin problems.

At $2.99 Skin Care Guide is the most expensive of these app, so one would imagine that this would offer more. Now we cannot say for certain how true this is without downloaded it and giving it a try, so we will just have to explain just what this app has to offer.

There are so many tips that the Skin Care Guide offers that they are two numerous to list. However, we will just talk about some of the most important. If you suffer with acne, unwanted wrinkles or dry skin, then this app is for you. You will also be given advice about what are the best skin creams to use, along with herbal remedies as well.

These are just three apps that will help you get your skin glowing again. What tips do you have for our readers?

Keep an eye on your blood pressure and heart rate with the new Withings blood pressure monitor available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Withings Blood Pressure Monitor can be connected to your device and has eventually become accessible for you to order your own. In an article by Zach Honig on Engadget, a report is given on this great application available on iOS devices. Track early warning health problems using Withings Blood Pressure Monitor for $129, this is a bit steep compared to other off the shelf monitors available although it integrates well with Withings scale for a complete vitals management solution. Using this app you can send your results to the Microsoft HealthVault, Google Health and straight to your local doctor.

Just connect the monitor to your device and launch the Withings application. If you have not installed it already, you will be requested to do so. There is an on screen button that will inflate the cuff and give you details of your results after thirty seconds. An FAQ screen will help to explain your results with color circles to show you of any possible health problems. In the Kmart test viewed on the demo video below you will see that the results were similar to the in-store machine, which shows more than one test will probably give you a more accurate reading when you compare the averages.

The French technology company Withings has announced its blood pressure monitor has been made available to the U.S today. This is the only blood pressure cuff that connects straight to any iOS device. An ideal easy to use app for anyone who needs to monitor his or her current health situation. With over 25% of people developing hypertension, the Withings application uses advanced technology and a sophisticated design to get you the best quality readings with your iOS device. You can view previous results saved or see them on a personal Withings webpage instantly.

For those of us that use our devices for so many tasks, medical care will always feature as a priority in peoples lives. Do you think this is also a great way to use your device? The Withings Blood Pressure Monitor could be something you use to measure your fitness from time to time.

More and more people are choosing to do 15-minute Workouts because they cannot spare a full hour away from their busy lives. The best way to benefit from these is by getting fit with apps, as they can be located at the touch of a button – much better than putting a DVD on. Most of the time you do not need to watch a big screen to see what workouts you need to do, just a little guidance will help.

There are so many different workouts to choose from, but do not expect any Cardio ones, as you will never get your body up to temperature to start burning off the fat. Instead you will be much better off going for Yoga or Pilates. These are not intense, but are still classed as a workout, as you are helping your balance, posture and mind. Maintaining all three will help you when you do get time to do some running or cycling.

The first app that we have for you is called “15-Minute Yoga” and costs just $0.99. This app will allow you to do Yoga in bite sizes, but you can still end up doing this four times a day, just think how relaxed you will feel at the end of the day? The best thing is, you can do this anywhere, not just at home – so ideal for the office. For more details visit iTunes.

Having said some of that above, we was a little wrong, We have just found the ultimate workout app called “5 & 10 Minute Workouts”. Having looked, there are 20 quick exercises in all, but we have to wonder how much of an effect they will have? The best thing about this app is its price, as it’s free. More information on this app can be found on iTunes.

How do you keep fit, would an app really help?

Five years ago the cell phone was a different device to what it is today, and the reason why we say this is because it can do a range of other tasks apart from making calls and sending text messages. Did you know how many lives have been saved by a cell phone? The number is too hard to imagine, but we just love how they have been improving healthcare.

When we say saving lives, we are not talking about calling the emergency services when you are in need of medical assistance; we mean how the medical profession have now started to use them. All over the world people live in remote places and a nurse or doctor does not have the means at hand to run tests that are normal practice in a hospital.

This is where the smartphone comes into its own, as there are a number of apps available where you can keep records and then send them to another doctor thousands of miles away, who can then help to make a diagnoses.

That is not all; these smartphones can be connected to scanner equipment, or other such medical devices used to keep an eye on heart rate, blood measures and so much more. However, the tablet device is also about to shine, with many medical professions already prepared to take shipment of the BlackBerry PlayBook, who will be able to do far much more than a smartphone can.

Would you trust a cell phone to save your life?

Whenever we decide that it is finally time to do something about how unhealthy we are, one of the most popular actions to take is to watch our calorie intake. There are a number of online calorie counting apps on the market, but one of the best has to be MyNetDiary, as they offer on-the-go tracking for Android, BlackBerry and the iPhone and iPad.

These apps work in conjunction with the MyNetDiary website, which allows you to keep track of your calorie intake – making sure that things do not get out of hand. We are told that the App Store handpicked this app, so it has to be good right? As we said above, this app is also available for Android and BlackBerry handsets, and they are just as good as the iOS version.

The App Store Calorie Counter PRO by MyNetDiary is described as one of the easiest and most compete diet apps on the market. When you think that there are more than 416,000 foods database, which uses a barcode scanner and 40 screens, it is not hard to understand why. The price of this app is just $2.99, more details can be found on the App Store.

The Android version is much like the iOS version, but we have learned yet more details. This app takes your body measurements, lists 35 nutrients, and offers exercise details, as well as recipes and planning charts. The price for this app is also $2.99, more information can be found on the Android Market.

MyNetDiary explains that there are a number of calorie counter apps available for RIM’s BlackBerry, but there are none that come close to theirs. Looking at the prices, theirs seems to sit in the middle somewhere, as $3 is not much to pay to lose weight and get healthy. Visit the MyNetDiary for more details on this.

What is your favorite app for watching your calorie intake?

Are you currently struggling with a painful back and are searching for a few stretching exercises for the back which can help to ease the pain? If so, you’re in luck as we have a list of a few apps which you can download straight to your iPhone for an quick and effective solution.

The first app we have picked out is called Treat Your Back Pain Without Drugs. It is perhaps a little bit pricey at $9.99, but if it helps you to ease the pain, then it is very much worth the money. This app firstly lists the common causes for back pains, and they then offer some yoga exercises which you may want to try out.

Failing that, the app also provides a detailed section on physiotherapy for the back, and then some tips to keep your back and neck strong. We understand some of you may want an app which provides this kind of information for free, but then this app allows you to seek the information whilst you are away from the computer, so thats another advantage if you look at it that way.

Alternatively, we have found another related app for you, which is called Exercising and Stretching Guide and it’s a lot cheaper at just $0.99. However this one isn’t specifcally related to back problems like the first app we picked out for you, but you still may find the exercises that are detailed, useful.

Do you have any expert advice for dealing with back ache effectively and quickly? If so, list your ideas below so our other readers can view. Both apps are available to download from the App Store or iTunes now.

If you are looking for information on common health myths, you’ll be pleased to know that you can find some answers from the comfort of your own iPhone, in the form of an app which has details on some health myths that have been circulating in the community.

If you are searching for these health myths, you’ve probably been told somewhere that we should drink around eight glasses of water a day in order to stay healthy. This is one of the most common health myths – but do you believe it?

A useful app we’ve found is simply called ‘Health Myths’, and you can download it now from the App store for free. It has been developed by Damien Dematra and lists advice on health myths by one ‘Dr Low’, although whether you choose to believe his answers though is up to you.

Another myth which you may have heard about is the consequences for swallowing chewing gum. They say that if it happens, it will take seven years for it to digest in your stomach, which we think is rather crazy. Onto more serious myths though, and there are fears that reading in low light conditions will make you go blind after time, hard to believe again, but you’ll be amazed how many people get scared about this one.

One myth which is a bit more believable is the fact that you have to wait 30 minutes after eating if you want to go swimming. We’re sure you’ve heard this one before and it is one myth that many people abide by today.

What other health myths have you heard about?

We live in a stressful world now, life is meant to get easier as you get older, but we all know that this is never the case. It does not matter how old you are, if you try to take on too much or you are unhealthy, then chances are you are heading for a heart attack. Over the years people have looked on the Internet for signs of a heart attack, but you can now test yourself with iOS apps.

The first app is called “Heart Attack” and you will be pleased to know that it is free. The App for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad will ask you a series if questions, and it will then look at your answers and determine if you are at risk of a heart attack. You can also try this app out on someone that you care about, just to persuade them to make a lifestyle change.

If you would like a more extensive app and are prepared to pay $5.99, then “5 Steps to Detect and Manage a Heart Attack” is another possible choice. We all know that this issue is classed as the silent killer, but this book on the App Store gives you all the details you need to detect a heart attack and what things you can do to treat it.

We know how much you love the free apps, so “Heart Disease Risk Calculator” is another good choice. This is yet another app that looks at your risk of having a heart attack over the next ten years or so. The app also offers advice on what you need to do to reduce your risk, no matter what age.

Those are just three of a number of apps available. However, we would like to warn you that you should always visit your “CARDIOLOGIST” if you have health fears.

Would you trust an app to let you know you are at risk of a heart attack?
