Cell phones and risk of brain cancer

July 25, 2008 by Peter

Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, Dr. Ronald Herberman has told his faculty that they should limit the time they spend on their cell phones, because of a possible risk from brain cancer.

In his warning to his faculty, Herberman pointed to nonpublished research. This research suggests that everyone especially children should limit “long-term cell phone use to possible adverse health effects including cancer.”

Herberman had also said that children are more at risk from brain cancer from cell phones, as their brains are still developing.

The American Cancer Society has said that Herberman’s warnings are a little strong, as there is a lack of evidence. They also said that if there was a risk, it was very small. Herberman followed up by saying that even if the risk was small, it is still too great for us and our children.

Do you agree that long term cell phone use can lead to brain cancer?

Have you heard of skinny cow? Well Skinny Cow products from Nestles are hot at the moment and the reason for this is because you can indulge in what looks like to be bad fatty food, but indeed it is not as they are pure healthy products.

Skinny Cow products are for those who have the ultimate sweet tooth and these products are favored by dieters, these are without a doubt very good as part of the best life diet for slimming and weight loss. The latest product from Skinny Cow is “Skinny Dippers which is a new ice cream bar. These Skinny Dippers are ice cream bars which at the end of them are covered in chocolate (basically dipped in chocolate hence the name “Dippers”), you may be thinking of all those calories and fat content but you need not worry because one bar of ice cream only contains 80 calories and 3 grams of fat, they have many other products.

skinny+cow

The good thing about Skinny Cow that we really love is the fact that these products can help not only adults but our children, our kids are growing fast and we do not mean just in height either, we are talking about how large they are getting. Children are becoming overweight and this is a major concern. Kids love these ice creams and they are a good source to start their diet, they will not even know the difference between the normal fatty factor ice cream and these slimming wonder products.
Skinny Dippers have 2 grams of fiber and are only 1 Weight Watchers POINT. They come in caramel and mint flavors. Obviously Skinny Cow as more products so we recommend you go visit Skinny Cow.

Quit gym for Nintendo Wii Fit after 5 days

April 30, 2008 by Daniel

Five days after doing our first hands-on with the Nintendo Wii Fit, I can now report that I have quit the gym for the Wii Fit and amazing yet simple Balance Board. In the last five days, my whole family has been using the Wii Fit everyday and we have all seen improved results in not only weight, but also our core balance and this has led us to save money by leaving the gym.

The reason we choose to use Wii Fit and the Balance Board instead of the gym, is because the amount our bodies have improved in this short time, it’s amazing and something that was not expected from a games console. The Nintendo Wii has proven itself to be much more than its competitors (The Sony PS3 and Xbox 360), one example is just last night when we had a group of friends over, our Sony PS3 did not get touched and I had just purchased GTA 4 as well.

As summer is approaching I will be outside jogging, but with one hour of step, hula, muscle workouts, yoga and more, this is more than enough to burn calories, increase muscle and strength and improve our balance. If you have used the Wii Fit for a week and everyday you will know what I mean, if you have not then I suggest you go to a friend or buy the product to see how good Wii Fit really is.

This is just one story of how our gym has been replaced by a better product, although we will still jog outside. Tell us your story and experience with Nintendo’s Wii Fit. Also let me point out that our local health club/gym does not let children use the gym (only swimming), so my son and daughter are getting more exercise at home thanks to Wii Fit.

2 Days with Nintendo Wii Fit: the Balance Board is life changing

It’s only been a couple of days since we posted a first look with some hands-on photos of the Nintendo Wii Fit and Balance Board, on that day I decided to spend time everyday using Wii Fit and to see just how good it was, as the Nintendo Wii needed to get some time because it was just sitting there not being used. Now only two days later I am amazed at how good Wii Fit is, it has changed everything for the Wii and not only am I using the it to keep fit, but also my wife, daughter and son.

I can tell you first hand that the Balance Board and Wii Fit is truly life changing, I not only know I am overweight and have a high BMI but I am even learning about the way I stand and how it is very wrong and bad for my health. Last night I was waiting for my brother to arrive outside his home and I realized I was standing with all my weight on one leg and I corrected this to a better posture like it shows you in Wii Fit…things are changing already.

There has been times when I go to bed feeling fat as I have eaten late, but over the last two evenings I felt great as I spent 30 minutes on the Balance Board doing some step, press ups and even some jogging on the spot which works amazingly well. Now my whole family is not only keeping fit and working towards our own goals, but we are also competing for the top place on the scoreboard for each task. Even my mother-in-law came over and used the Wii Fit, I am also sure we’re not the only family that has had its daily life changed thanks to Wii Fit….gaming and fitness is going to change many lives and save money on healthcare costs.

If you have not got Wii Fit yet, I would strongly recommend you do so, as my mind has been changed from the view that the Wii is for kids and the PS3 and 360 are the real games machines to the Wii being in another interactive league compared to the other next-gen consoles.

In Summery: Wii Fit 10/10, best £69 I have spent in a long time.

Real Candy Cigarettes: Flavor smoking right or wrong?

April 12, 2008 by Daniel

When I was younger I have had Candy Cigarettes that were real candy and did not contain tobacco, but it was fun back then to pretend I was smoking like mum and dad. Now I am 30 years old and I still have never smoked, but we are seeing Candy Cigarettes coming back and this time they have real tobacco in them.

This product is created because the tobacco industry knows that first-time users find smoking unpleasant, so they create flavorings with sugars like Winter Mocha Mint, Warm Winter Toffee and flavours are used like grape, cherry, peach, strawberry and chocolate. Some of these products have been given nicknames like Barbie Camel, which sounds like it’s for girls.

How do you feel about real candy flavored cigarettes, is it right or wrong and do you feel children will be attracted to these tobacco sweets?

The Backfriend gives “a positive support structure starting at the base of the spine” and can fit into the smallest of bucket seats to give you the anterior tilt you need. Microwave Blood Sugar Testing Machine

finger.jpg

This is a blood testing machine which would be great for diabetics; it means that they don’t have to prick their finger to draw blood.

The microwave circuit is non-invasive, all you have to do is simply place you thumb onto the spiral circuit and an electromagnetic wave will deviate from the normal and the change corresponds to your glucose level, which allows it to monitor your blood sugar level.

The prototype is currently under going further clinical trials so it may be some time before the blood sugar level monitor is available, but it looks as if the first devices could be used as public devices which would be available in drug stores.

Scented Fire Alarm for the Deaf

In Japan they are trying to develop a fire alarm for the deaf which will use the sense of smell, Wasabi or Japanese Horseradish will be used as it has a particularly pungent smell.

It has been said that the aroma that wasabi gives off is enough to wake the dead and when tested 13 out of 14 test subject were awoken within 2 minutes. One of the subjects who were actually deaf woke up within 10 seconds.

I think that this is a fantastic idea; a lot of the devices which are out at the moment involve flashing lights or pads to be placed under a pillow which vibrate. A lot of people sleep under their bed covers so therefore wouldn’t see the flashing lights.

epilepsy and the ketogenic diet
When people think of the word “diet” you tend to think of low fat in there somewhere, and sayings like “you are what you eat” come to mind. The Ketogenic diet would let people eat of bacon and cream cheese instead, but this diet is aimed at combating epilepsy seizures in children who don’t respond to drugs alone.

Columbus Dispatch are reporting that this old-time high-fat diet reduces seizures in children and the ketogenic diet dates back to biblical times…an option that can help prevent epilepsy without drugs seems and thats great in my book, but what affect can all that fat have.

Read about an 8-year-old with epilepsy whose life has changed since he started the Ketogenic diet.
