Microsoft’s disappointing Xbox 360 hardware results

In last months North American sales figures that were released by NPD, we see that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 had some really disappointing hardware results.
We could take the view that the current credit crunch could be to blame, but looking at the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3 software and hardware sales, this is certainly not the case at this time.
June was the first time in 2008 that the Xbox 360 came last out of all the games consoles and its also the first time in over 12 months that the 360 didn’t have a game in one of the top two positions.
What does this mean for the Xbox 360 and what can Microsoft do to improve things in the months to come?
It seems that this has been a trend for the Xbox 360 over the last few months and the leaked news of a price drop will not really affect new buyers. The reason I say this is because the people that track the Xbox 360 gaming news closely, would most probably already have the console.
It will be interesting to see how the Xbox 360 software and hardware sales continue over the rest of 2008, how will they look compared to the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3 come Christmas?
