What is so important about this latest version of Greenpois0n is how you can now jailbreak without the need to tether to a computer, not only that but PC World also reports that you no longer have to re-jailbreak your iPhone after you have rebooted it – saving a huge amount of time.

Engadget who first learned of this new version of Greenpois0n reports that you will be able to use it not only for Mac, but also Windows and Linux. They do warn that this version was made quick, so you best hold of – just until we know of any issues.

Techtree warns that iPhone 4 users should avoid this jailbreak, as it does not have a carrier unlock, meaning you will be unable to use your SIM if you do so.

There have been a few reports that the jailbreak does not work, as Greenpois0n has been crashing. Have you managed to download the untethered version Greenpois0n of yet, if so has it worked for you?

If you haven’t heard, Geohot has come out of hiding and announced that his new jailbreak Limera1n will be available on Monday 11th October, just a single day after GreenPois0n is released.

Talk about stealing someones thunder. While everyone patiently waited for the Chronic Dev-Team to announce a release date for GreenPois0n, little did we know that Geohot was waiting to pounce. Could he of known that GreenPois0n would only support the new iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4 months ago?

The Chronic Dev-Team only announced supported devices recently, which was met by global disappointment due to the fact that users were under the impression that GreenPois0n would jailbreak all devices – enter GeoHot.

Just hours after Chronic Dev-Team announced a 10/10/10 release date for GreenPois0n, Geohot announced that Limera1n would be available the next day and that it would jailbreak ALL devices with a new bootrom exploit, i.e the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Obviously, those of you with an iPhone 3G or 3GS are delighted by the timing of his jailbreak, but I doubt the Chronic Dev-Team are. What are your thoughts on this? Are you still going to download GreenPois0n tomorrow, or are you now going to wait until Geohot releases more information on LimeRa1n?

As reported from RedmondPie, the Chronic Dev-Team has yet to officially announce details regarding tethering support for the GreenPois0n jailbreak, but that hasn’t stopped others from providing their input.

We have a few tweets for you to read now, the first comes from Cydia developer chpwn:

@chpwn: The tethered status of SHAtter or greenpoison has not been announced. It’s a surprise!

Here is another one from ‘Vincent’ who those in the jailbreak scene will know about:

@veeence: Sunday. Untethered.

Considering that the news still hasn’t been confirmed by Chronic Dev-Team yet, we should take nothing for granted, especially with the amount of false GreenPois0n info flying around.
