Today a new Gran Turismo 5 patch has been rolled-out across the PlayStation Network, this is called the Spec 2.0 patch and it changes quite a lot in the game, so buckle yourself up while we give you a run though some of the changes.

Let’s start with what we think are the most significant changes. You can now save your game during a race, navigate a more responsive user interface, take advantage of new interior views and you have the ability to save multiple car settings. We are also told that users can control the weather change feature and when watching-back replays you can now rewind and fast forward.

As usual there are lots of fixes “under-the-bonnet” (excuse the pun), however we think you will be most excited to hear that the Logitech G25/G27 Steering wheel is now supported and there are more cars to race with (the Nissan GT-R N24 Schulze Motorsport and almost a dozen 2011 model NASCAR cars).

When racing you should now noticed that your foes have improved AI, not only this but the physics engine should bring more realism to the game. You can see some of the less impressive changes cover at DualShockers – let us know if you spotted a change which was not listed in the patch notes.

The patch itself may take some time to download today as the servers are taking a hammering at the moment, if you experience any major problems be sure to leave us a comments below.

Note: We have just received all of the juicy details regarding some DLC packs which are headed to GT5, come back later for all of the info!

Driver is a game that for years, has had to stand up with its bitter rivals in the driving simulator genre. From GTA to GT5, Driver has always just fallen short of what is expected of a fast-paced driving game, but from the looks of things, Driver: San Francisco could become the pack leader with its exceptional multiplayer modes including; “Tag” and “Capture the Flag.”

What’s that you say? Capture the Flag? In a car game? All will be explained, so just fasten your seatbelt while we take you through it.

First of all, we want to talk about Tag mode. Now as dull as it sounds, the guys at Ubisoft have made sure that it wont just be a couple of cars forever chasing one car to become “it,” no, they have added extra mechanics that make such things as Tag and Capture the Flag possible.

Introducing Shift. Shift is an entirely new mechanic that makes you feel like you are an agent from the Matrix, where by you can “Shift” from car to car, taking control of each one as you teleport to it, without actually getting out of the car. It’s kinda like a key-fob, you always focus your eyes and zoom onto your car, press a button and viola, the car is open. But imagine doing this, but instead of unlocking the car doors, you insta-port inside it. This is the mechanic that Driver has solely built itself around. Like it, love it, embrace it.

Now that Shift is out of the way, explaining the new Tag mode will be a lot simpler. There will always be one person who is “it,” but that will change as the time goes on, and other players strategically plan which car to take which will give them the best chance of a collision, resulting in them becoming “it,” but also then getting away from the rest of the pursuers. In heinsight, there is no point in Shifting to a heavy lorry that can smack seven bails of hay out of the “it” players 2006 Ford GT as it comes up to a junction. Yea, it will be fun, but now try and get away. All in all, Tag mode sounds like fun, and we for one cannot wait to try it out.

According to Ubisoft, Driver will come with a total of eleven online modes and eight split-screen two player modes, which by far sounds enough to keep even the smallest driving fans happy. Other modes include Capture the Flag, which you can probably imagine now that the Shift mechanic has been explained. Cops and Robbers is also another fan-favourite in the list.

There is really not enough time to explain all of the online modes, but VG247 have it pretty wrapped up if you want to take a look at what they think of Driver: San Francisco.

Driver will launch on August 30 in the US, and September 2 in Europe for PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A Wii version with different storyline and gameplay is also due to come out at a yet undisclosed date.

Are you looking forward to playing Tag? We haven’t been this excited since we were kids.

There are two things expected for September, the launch of the iPhone 5 and F1 2011. But it is the latter that we are more interested in today, as we now have the first gameplay video for you to feast your eyes on. The first thing that you will notice is the unbelievable graphics are on par with Gran Turismo.

Codemaster has been working hard on this new game, and from what we have seen it looks as if it is coming together nicely. With each year, new rules come into effect in the world of Formula One, such as KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and DRS (Drag Reduction System).

You can clearly see these new features in action, DRS is very easy to spot, as you will notice that the rear wing will open up at a certain activation point on the track. In theory this is meant to help with overtaking. Now we have seen that this can happen on some tracks, while others it does not – so you will get to see how well the system works for you.

However, you will need to remember that you will be traveling at a much faster speed with DRS activated, so we can see you messing up a few times and not remembering to brake early enough. Also with KERS you will get an increase of at least 85HP, and we do hope that Codemaster has been able to make that apparent in the new game?

From the moment that you see the Ferrari on its jacks having its wheels changed in the pits you know you are in for a real treat. The shine and reflection of the car must have taken a huge amount of development time?

After the scene where the Renault leaves the pits that is when we have noticed an error. The first two cars on the grid are Ferrari’s, followed by a McLaren and then a Red Bull. Now when was the last time that you saw that grid order in this years F1 championship? OK, we know that it is just a game, but would be nice to add a few simple details like that in.

Having said that, we just cannot find a fault with the graphics and the camera angles; how awesome is it to see those cars go round corners in excess of 120mph? However, the best part of this gameplay video preview has to be how the cars ride of the kerbs. It looks like the Renault has taken too much kerb going into the corner, as two wheels are off the track and then come hard back to ground to help give the car traction as it powers on through the corner.

Have a watch of the video and let us know how you think it compares to F1 2010?

Are you stuck for ideas as to what you can buy your dad for Father’s Day this year? Well if your dad just happens to be a gamer, then I think we may have the perfect solution. Sony has recently announced the PSP Limited Edition Entertainment Pack, which as you guessed is an ideal Father’s Day gift.

According to Crystal MacKenzie (associate brand marketing manager, hardware) over on the blog.us.playstation.com website, the PSP bundle comes with a ‘piano black’ PSP-3000, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo and two of the biggest Sony PSP titles: Gran Turismo and MLB 11: The Show.

The PlayStation portable version of the MLB 11: The Show game comes complete with updated rosters, AI improvements, new stadiums, revamped animation and personalized batting stances. It also features the updated Road to the Show and Rivalry Mode.

Meanwhile, the popular PSP title Gran Turismo features 35 different tracks and over 800 cars from international automakers. Players have the ability to compete in races, time trials and even drift mode challenges. Using the Ad Hoc wireless mode, gamers can challenge their friends to 4-player races.

The PSP Limited Edition Entertainment Pack will be available this June for $159.99. Is this something that you would consider buying your dad for Father’s Day?

Although fans have only had a few days worth of playing time with the recently-released Gran Turismo 5 game, there’s already news surfacing about the next installment in the series, GT6. Earlier this month, Alan Ng brought you all an article on whether or not GT6 would be released on the PS3.

We now have more Gran Turismo 6 news, thanks to an article by Tom Pakinkis over at computerandvideogames.com. The article takes a look at a wish list for the GT6 game, and all the ways that it could possibly improve the series for Polyphony Digital.

The first thing that’s mentioned on the list is possibly not having so many different cars. The article points out that while it’s great to have all those nice cars to drive, do we really need so many different models of Honda Civics? Another valid point mentioned is the amount of development time.

Then there is the damage debate, and whether or not there should be more damage added to the Gran Turismo games or no damage at all. Weather is another thing on the GT6 wish list, and how it should be rolled out across the entire game next time and not just over a few tracks.

You can read the full list via computerandvideogames.com. What do you think of CVG’s wish list, and what changes would you like to see in the Gran Turismo 6 game?

Ever since Gran Turismo 5 arrived in stores a few days ago, we’ve been hearing reports of issues with the computer AI, technical problems/flaws and server error problems due to extreme traffic. However, it looks like the said issues will now be resolved, with the arrival of the v1.02 patch.

According to a recent article over at eurogamer.net by Wesley Yin-Poole, Polyphony Digital’s CEO Kazunori Yamauchi announced the patch earlier this week, stating that it would arrive on Saturday, November 27th. We can now tell you that the update has gone live, and is available to download.

Yamauchi said that the v1.02 update will refine the usability of the Gran Turismo 5 game, to make it a better gaming experience. The data center was originally set up to handle a total of 500,000 connections, but Yamauchi said that they have now doubled that number to one million.

As reported by Jordan at gtplanet.net, the v1.02 patch arrived yesterday, which means many of you will have already downloaded it. However, judging by the comments, players weren’t too happy that a patch was announced without giving details of what was involved in the update.

Have you downloaded the v1.02 patch? If so, are you still experiencing any connection issues?

I would be the first person to agree that the Gran Turismo 5 story could be made into a movie, it has been a long road that will soon end with a release of the game, yes it really will. This trip has included a lot of news, rumor and far-fetched stories.

From the GT5 being restricted by the PS3’s power to interviews with Kazunori Yamauchi about GT5, and impressive videos to rumors about GT6 already, but all we really want is the GT5 disc in our PlayStation 3’s.

So when we saw a story today on thesixthaxis.com, which said “Gran Turismo 5: Why Waiting Is Good” we were shocked, good for who? The consumer may expect so much from GT5 that it cannot meet them expectations, so its certainly not good for the GT5 fan (unless it blows us away after all these years of wait).

Have a read of the article on The Sixth Axis; it’s an interesting read and one that explains that it is good to wait for GT5, but maybe for all the wrong reasons. How has your GT5 wait been? Let us know in the comments.

November 2nd is a date that all GT5 fans have in their diaries, with the release date drawing nearer and nearer we have some exciting new information. Gamescom is now underway, a lot of new details have been released about the game including career, garage, and lounge info and even a course maker and kart racing details!

All sounds tasty huh?

Single Player Career Mode that covers both A and B-Spec is the driving force behind the game.

A-Spec lets you be the driver and lets your skills decide where you stand on the grid and where you end up.

B-Spec puts you in the role of Team Director, and it’s your job to study what is going on around you and play to your drivers strengths to come out on top, which will help the driver develop into a top-tier driver.

The Virtual Garage will be the place where you can keep and own over 1000 intricately detailed cars. It will be the home of your vehicles, complete with an easy-to-use category tool.

The Lounge puts the players sense of spending a day at the track being both seemless and exciting. GT5 has revamped this system for online playability. I’m sure you will be impressed with this.

GT5′s Course Maker is inspired by GT’s 70 track variations to allow you to generate a super-course to your tailored needs.

Kart Racing is a tutorial based feature that lets you first time drivers discover and learn the ropes to become the super driver you’d hope to be. Even if you fancy messing around, this would be the place where you can experience playground style racing to your hearts content.

Looks impressive! More screenshots and info can be found via the source below. Are you excited for GT5?

When it comes to driving games no one can doubt the quality of the Sony PS3′s Gran Turismo series. Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the series has recently said that since version 4 of the game was launched back in 2004, no other driving simulator game has been able to compete.

According to a recent article on Connected Consoles, Yamauchi was recently quoted as saying, that the when playing other driving games, “low level of quality really shines through.” He had made that comment during an interview with Eurogamer.dk. He had been asked if the upcoming Gran Turismo, which has been years in the making would implement a host of features seen in other driving games.

Kazunori Yamauchi seems to have a problem with all other games that are not part of the GT range; he said that he just couldn’t get a hold on the games. We are certain that fans of the Forza series will not agree with that. Like any game, they all have their faults, we will just have to wait and see if Gran Turismo 5 will have any.
