When Google launched its Nexus One phone a couple of weeks back, little did they how much it hurt not offering multi-touch support. It was for this reason that made the Apple iPhone as popular as it is, but there could be an answer for all you Google-branded phone owners.

One hacker has managed to crack the software, the Google Nexus One now comes with multitouch along with some other new features, these include SSH and USB support. iZgadget is certain that this hacker along with others will offer more modification over the coming weeks; one such feature could be full custom ROM.

We had assumed that Google would have offered more than they did with the Nexus One, but there seems to be a continuous pattern with Android phones and the lack of new features. However, now that Google has made Android 2.1 open source, it has potential to become greater than what it is.

IZgadget makes the bold claim that the Nexus One could become a better phone than the Apple iPhone, we are not too certain on that one, only time will tell. However, we have to remember that Apple are rumored to be unveiling a new iPhone 4GS soon, if this is true, then they may have to withdraw that bold claim.

With the Apple Event taking place next week, smartphone sales are certain to be slow as we wait to hear if Apple are to launch a new iPhone. If they do not announce anything then we could see sales of the Nexus One start to increase. This is only a thought; please do not hold us to it. here are the top ten new iPhone 4G rumors so far.

The Google Nexus One is just over two weeks old now and it is no secret that sales have been poor to say the least. The handset is nice looking, but it does not have any of that wow factor like the Apple iPhone did back in 2007. So how could Google have done any different and what would Steve Jobs have done?

BusinessWeek said that even the Nexus One launch event was a boring one, unlike the “cool and confident” one from Steve Jobs almost three years ago. Google’s presentation was so boring, many of us could have easily fell asleep, things got even worse when the slide show started.

The speakers did not feel comfortable on stage, this could clearly be heard by the number of ums” and “ahs”. Steve Jobs has never been that sloppy, which is why Apple fans were praying that he came back.

Jobs would not have gone for the overhead projector; he would have gone with the rich multimedia. The Apple CEO would have also used a video feed from the phone instead of a desktop magnification device. Another problem is how the images were black and white, making the Nexus One look older than what it is.

Even before Steve Jobs announced the launch of the iPhone he built up the suspense, this is something that the Google event lacked. We cannot wait to see if he will be staging the Apple Press Event next week, lets hope he does.

When Google launched its HTC built Nexus One just under two weeks ago they had hoped to see strong sales, this has not been the case, with only 20,000 units being sold in its first week. With this in mind, T-Mobile has now cut the upgrade price in the hope of enticing more customers to make the switch to the first Google-branded cell phone.

The upgrade price for the Google Nexus One was $379 with the T-Mobile data plan, but it has now been reduced to $279, that’s a saving of $100. If you are a new user, then you will still have to pay $180 for the device, but it shows that T-Mobile are now desperate to try and shift more units.

To give you an idea of just how poor those results are, V3.co.uk reports that Vodafone sold more than 50,000 iPhone 3GS smartphones on its first day of launch in the UK last week. This shows that although the Apple device is now 6 months old, it can still hold its own when new handsets are released.

There are a number of reasons why the Nexus One has not done as well as hoped, and research firm Flurry believes that one of them is due to all the hype before its release. Bloggers were all saying how great the new smartphone was going to be, but when the phone was released it fell short of those expectations.

This is a huge blow to Google and its future handsets, it seems that no one is able to take on Apple’s smartphone and with a new iPhone 4G model rumored to be released in 2010, this could create more pain for its challengers.

The upcoming launch of the Google Nexus One in the UK will have a huge impact on the phone tariffs in 2010, more so for the iPhone. It is no secret that the Apple smartphone has never had the best tariff deals compared to other phones, the threat from the first Google-branded phone could force prices down, we hope.

The Nexus One will only be available to Vodafone in the UK at first, but others are sure to follow. However, with the iPhone now on O2, Vodafone, orange and maybe T-Mobile, the competition will be great for the consumer. Something like this has to push the price of traffics down.

One of the cheapest tariffs from all the carriers is Vodafone; maybe this is why Google chose them first. £30 per month gives you 300 minutes and unlimited texts; this is on a 24-month contract. However, if you do not want to commit to 2 years, then Tesco are offering a 12-month contract for the iPhone. £20 each month will give you £60 worth of calls and texts. However, you will need to pay £320 for the 16GB 3GS or £407 for the 32GB version.

We have yet to see the price of tariffs fall, but the price of the handsets themselves are tumbling fast. However, we are not certain if this will be the case if and when Apple launch their new iPhone 4G this year. There are reports that this could be as early as April.

The Google Nexus One phone has been available in the U.S. for a week now, but people around the world are wondering when will they get the chance to own the latest Android handset. The latest information we have is that India will get the handset soon, but not officially.

Google have yet to announce the official release of the Nexus One, but according to Only Kent, there is a website offering the superphone for purchase. We are not certain if this device will lack certain features, mind you the official Nexus One seems to be lacking 3G in the U.S., but that’s another story.

The first Google-branded handset, which runs on Android 2.1, costs RS. 33,241, that works out to $675. Consumers will now face a tough choice, do they pay a little extra and purchase the Nexus One now, or should they wait for Google to launch the device officially?

For those who do make the choice to order the latest Android smartphone in India, then be aware that shipping takes 21-30 days. The price of this phone includes all taxes.

Google had hoped that the launch of its first branded phone, the Nexus One was going to go along smoothly. However, things never go to plan, and the current 3G-connection problem is a fine example of that. There is plenty of blame going around, but it is more than likely due to a firmware issue rather than network.

We reported the other day that users were being pushed between Google, HTC and T-Mobile in the hope of finding a solution, but none of them wanted to take the blame. They are finding that they are being pushed off 3G and onto the slower EDGE, both Google and T-Mobile are now asking users to describe their exact problems in the hope of resolving the issue.

We can certainly rule T-Mobile out, as their other handsets are not experiencing the same issue. This is why Le Journal Du Geek believes that it is more to do with the firmware on the Nexus One. If this is true, then we are certain that Google are working on a fix as we speak.

Google should not worry about this problem, we know that it is a huge pain for both them and their customers, but it is not the first time that a new smartphone has been dogged with problems. You only have to look at the launch of the Palm Pre to understand what we mean.

If you are still experiencing 3G connection problems on your Google nexus One phone, then please let us know.

When it comes to testing the accuracy of a smartphone touchscreen, only four handsets would do, the Google Nexus One Phone, Motorola Droid, Eris and the Apple iPhone. The hardware in the three Android running phones are newer and in most cases better, the iPhone still came out better offering better display results.

On an article on PC World, they explain that the Moto Development Group was the ones putting these handsets through their paces. We would just like to inform you that they have nothing to do with Motorola; well if they were they would have made the Droid the winner.

The test was very simple; they used a simple application to draw four lines across the screen. They then measured each screen to see how accurate it had drawn them; this includes how much pressure had been applied with the full surface of a finger as well as just the corner.

The test showed that the iPhone 3GS came out on top, something that Google will not be happy about as their new Nexus One phone lagged behind despite the higher resolution. It shows that having a smaller, lower-resolution screen is better for accurate tests such as this one.

However, Apple did not have it all their own way, the screen suffered from a sensitivity problem at the edges. The winner of that test was the Droid Eris. If the oldest handset of the bunch still performs better than the new ones, just imagine what the iPhone 4G will be like.

Whenever a new device comes to the market someone always looks at all the hardware and then breaks down its true cost. The latest device to be taken apart price-by-price is the Google Nexus One phone (Review), it seems that all the parts add up to a total of $174.15.

According to beancounters at Isuppli, this figure does not include all the costs that go with the smartphone; these include software, distribution, packaging, royalties and manufacturing. However, at least we know how much Google have to pay HTC for the hardware, although we are sure they receive a huge discount.

All those other costs do not mount up to much, so shows how much Google expects to make from one of these handsets if purchased unlocked. Looking at the cost of the hardware in detail, the most expensive component is its processor, the 1GHzQualcomm Snap costs about $30.50.

The next dearest piece of hardware is the 3.7-inch Samsung screen, costing $23.70. Other items include the memory for $20.40, 5-megapixel camera for $12.50 and $5.25 for the 1400 mAh 3.7V battery.

The parts used in the previous Android smartphone, the Droid come to $185. The king of the smartphones’s, the Apple iPhone has parts worth $172.46. Unlocked versions of the Nexus One will cost you $529, with the Motorola Droid costing $599.

Google launched their Nexus One phone just under a week ago and to many, is seen as an anti-climax. Do not get us wrong it is a nice phone, but not an iPhone killer as many suggested all those months ago. There were hopes that the first Google-branded phone was going to be revolutionary, but it seems that we have been let down.

BusinessWeek has been taking a much closer look at the Nexus One and do agree that the superphone is sleek and sexy and has seen huge advancements when it comes to processor and software technology. However, technology in the cell phone business moves fast and will not be long before it is overtaken.

The Google-branded phone is manufactured by HTC as was the very first Android based cell phone, the T-Mobile G1. The handset is very similar to the iPhone in its dimensions, although slightly lighter and thinner. The Nexus One runs on the latest 2.1 Android OS and makes the phone run much smoother and faster than previous version of the mobile operating system.

We have established that the Apple iPhone will not feel under any threat with the Nexus One, but that is not the same story with the Motorola Droid. This handset still runs on the older Android 2.0 and has a much slower processor, well it was launched a couple of months back now.

The Droid had a superb display when launched, much brighter with a higher resolution than the iPhone, but the Nexus One blew its competition out of the water with its latest screen technology. What are your first thought of this latest handset? Read what BusinessWeek has to say on the Google Nexus One phone.

Google had hoped to improve its relationship with us mere mortals with the launch of their Nexus One phone, but its recent 3G problems has not gone down well with users. When searching through Google Mobile forums you will see a number of questions being asked on the problems, with most if not all queries being left unanswered.

Google Nexus One owners first went to HTC who make the smartphone, but were told to contact T-Mobile. The carrier then said that it was nothing to do with them, so users turned to Google in the hope of some answers. The problem concerns the Google-branded phone switching from 3G to the much slower EDGE.

It is not certain if this issue is affecting all Nexus One owners or a select few. According to Mashable, Google have said that they will try to answer customer emails regarding the 3G issues in one to two days. Most people would agree that this is too long, not a great start.

If it was a problem with T-Mobile, then why is it not affecting any of their other handsets? Many believe that it could be a hardware or software issue, meaning that it is either HTC or Google. This issue needs to be resolved in the shortest amount of time possible, the handset has only been on the market for a few days and the problems have already begun.

Have you been experiencing any 3G problems with your Google Nexus One handset?
