One of the most highly anticipated smartphones which is said to be coming soon is the Google Nexus Prime, well recently some images and a video of a device which is dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Prime showed up on Engadget, however there is some confusion surrounding whether this is in fact the Nexus Prime.

We have embedded a video at the end of this post, we don’t get to see much in terms of physical design, but we do get a brief look at the smartphone’s UI. It has to be said that the software version running on the Galaxy Prime is not perfect, at times it seems momentarily unresponsive, but on the whole things look pretty promising and the display looks great.

In the about phone section of the OS the device name “Tuna” and under Android Version it says “4.0″ aka Ice Cream Sandwich. People over at Engadget are quite critical of the device’s user interface and say that the icons look dated, but we must point out that this could well be a very early version of Ice Cream Sandwich which turns out to be nothing like the final build.

The video does give us a glimpse at the standard layout and you will notice that there are no physical buttons on the face of the Galaxy Nexus, instead these have been replaced with virtual buttons. In terms of display size it is hard to say how big it is, but it does look like it is at least 4.5-inches and Engadget say that screenshots have confirmed that it outputs at a 720p resolution.

In a few days time we should finally find out whether this is in fact the Google Nexus Prime or a different smartphone completely, when we do we will keep you posted.

If you have already decided that the Samsung Nexus Prime is the next smartphone for you, there is little doubt that you’ll be tuning into Samsung and Google’s upcoming Mobile Unpacked event that has now been confirmed to be taking place on October 11.

One thing that is still up for debate though is the type of processor that will be included in the device, as although it has been heavily rumored to include a dual-core 1.5ghz processor, the brand of this processor is yet to be determined, and could make a vital difference in terms of overall performance.

Now the news has been confirmed that Samsung has just announced and unveiled their latest mobile processor, the dual-core Exynos 1.5GHz processor which is said to brings with it a 30% increase in power efficiency compared to the old Exynos processor that was featured in original Samsung Galaxy S II handsets.

This new chip will be featured in the new models of the Samsung Galaxy S II, but it is understood that it will not be featured in the upcoming Galaxy Prime, or Galaxy Prime, much to the disappointment of Android fans. Instead, the processor of choice is likely to be the dual-core 1.5Ghz OMAP 4460 which has been designed by Texas Instruments and is apparently the platform of Google’s choice for Ice Cream Sandwich, as reported from Droid-Life.

Obviously this will not be 100% confirmed until Google and Samsung dish the dirt at their Mobile Unpacked event on October 11, but it does put pose the question that the Nexus Prime would carry more battery life if it had Samsung’s new Exynos processor equipped within, rather than the TI OMAP 4460.

Let us know your thoughts on this one guys. Would you be disappointed if the Nexus Prime featured the TI processor rather than the Samsung Exynos chip? Perhaps more importantly – would you still buy the device at launch?

If you are patiently waiting for Google and Samsung to finally reveal official details for the highly anticipated Nexus Prime or Galaxy Nexus handset, you may have raised an eyebrow or two on T-Mobile’s announcement this week about the HTC Amaze 4G.

This is due to the hardware specifications that the handset will be able to possess, and they are definitely pretty impressive in our opinion. You may have read continued rumors that the Nexus Prime will be equipped with a dual core 1.5Ghz processor, making it easily the fastest handset around – but hold on for a minute.

T-Mobile has confirmed that the HTC Amaze 4G will also come with a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor combined with an 8 megapixel camera with specialist features and 1080p HD video recording support. This of course puts it right up there with the Nexus Prime and it may just come down to a case of which network you prefer between T-Mobile and Verizon. Both will offer 4G data support via HSPA+ and 4G LTE, although the Nexus Prime can hit back with some strong fighting talk of this own, most notably being the first handset in the world to support Ice Cream Sandwich – The Amaze 4G will ship with Gingerbread still.

Other factors which may come into interest is that Ice Cream Sandwich will more than likely be seen in its vanilla form on the Nexus 4G, meaning that it will be untouched by Samsung and not come loaded on top with extras such as TouchWiz, which is often frowned upon with hardcore smartphone fans. However, if the handset does ship with the final name as ‘Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ then Samsung may decide to add the latest version of TouchWiz on the device, compared to the ‘Nexus Prime’ name which will mean that Android will be untouched – similar to the Samsung Nexus S which came with a vanilla version of Gingerbread for example.

What are your thoughts on the announcement of the Amaze 4G, does it change your mind about picking up the Nexus Prime or not? T-Mobile certainly has some impressive handsets on their books, and they are also getting the Samsung Galaxy S II as well. The Amaze 4G will compete with the Nexus Prime to an extent, but the factors we mentioned above may prove to be the telling point with consumers.

Last week we shared some information related to the design of the highly anticipated Nexus Prime / Nexus 4G handset. If that interested you, you will want to pay attention to the latest news as fresh rumors have revealed some more clues about the Nexus Prime design.

In that article last week, we showed you a possible design idea for the Nexus Prime and it was a device which featured no physical hardware buttons and featured a metal trim around the outside edges similar to what we would expect from a HTC handset. We had some feedback on that design and it seems like a lot of you liked what you saw and would have no problems whatsoever if the Nexus Prime ended up like that.

However, an interesting story over at The Droid Guy tells the story of Kyle who has apparenly been given an exclusive first-look at the handset behind closed doors, by a Samsung employee at a recent Verizon developer conference in Las Vegas. His findings are particularly eyebrow raising, as he states that the Nexus Prime looks similar to the Samsung Nexus S in design, but a little bit longer and thicker.

One other notable fact from his Nexus Prime experience is the fact that the device was running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and not Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, since it’s heavily rumored to be launching with the brand new software within the next few months. It is likely though that Google has not yet compiled a final build of Ice Cream Sandwich so this shouldn’t be too much of a cause for concern for fans.

What we want to talk about though is the possibility of the Nexus Prime containing just a single physical home screen button, which completely contradicts that earlier report and image which suggested that the device wouldn’t have any hardware buttons. Then of course, a single home button would draw instant comparisons to the Apple iPhone, and it may prove to be a risky move what with the ongoing vicious patent battle between Apple and Samsung – would Samsung really want to release a device which may end up costing them money in the courts and possible injunctions?

This wouldn’t go down too well with potential buyers either, as we’re under the impression that most of you would like the Nexus Prime to come without any buttons, or a selection of buttons rather than a single home button. Share your thoughts on this discussion with us below.

We have some fresh information on the Nexus Prime to bring you now, as recent reports suggest that the Nexus Prime is still on course for a release within the next few months, with one source claiming that it could come straight after the release of the iPhone 5.

Google has already said that Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming very soon and the general feeling amongst the Android community is that the Nexus Prime will be the handset that is selected to be the flagship launch device for the new software.

Now then, an email sent to Phandroid from an apparent tipster with a friend who works for Verizon has told the site that the Nexus Prime will actually be launching towards the end of November. Two dates were even mentioned as well, these are November 17th and November 24th – falling both on a Thursday just for your reference.

This is significant in the fact that it may be roughly one month after the iPhone 5 is launched towards the end of October, meaning that Google will be paying close attention to the release of the iPhone 5, although a month apart could end up being a risky move in our opinion if everyone rushes out to buy Apple’s device.

Since the Nexus Prime will be a Verizon device, there has been no details yet on whether or not it will end up being the next member of the Droid family after the recently released Droid Bionic. Nexus ‘Droid’ Prime doesn’t quite have that edge to it, so we would actually prefer it if the Nexus brand stayed separate as the Google Nexus Prime – who agrees with us about the name?

Don’t forget that this information definitely isn’t official, but it is well worth making a note of those two possible release dates in case they are mentioned again down the line as we attempt to piece the puzzle together on the Nexus Prime.

Have you already decided to get this handset, or are you waiting for the iPhone 5 announcement still?
