A few days ago we informed you that the Nexus S was the first handset to receive the latest official version of Android Gingerbread. Version 2.3.4 is now available for the Nexus One, and we have the manual download link for you to install it straight away.

The biggest feature that Nexus S users enjoyed in the 2.3.4 update was the addition of Video and Voice chat within Google Talk, but since the Nexus One has no front-facing camera, unfortunately the video chat aspect is no where to be seen.

However, there are still other worthwhile features as part of the update, and they include things like improved battery life, better WiFi connectivity and GPS accuracy and there’s also an important bug fix which will reduce the likelihood of your phone shutting down randomly.

If you are still in possession of a Nexus One, you can proceed to Google’s official link here and download Android 2.3.4 manually, as reported from Android Community. Alternatively, you can wait for the official notification from Google on your handset to download the same update OTA.

What option will you choose, manual or OTA? If you already have version 2.3.4 installed on your device, let us know your thoughts on the changes. Is everything working fine?

Since the release of the Google Nexus One there have been a lot of rumors regarding a successor, up until now we were led to believe that it will be called the Nexus Two, however it looks like it will be called the Nexus S.

This name is unconfirmed at present, however a recent IntoMobile article suggest a friend of Gizmodo recently got some hands-on time with the Nexus S, from what we can see this device will be pretty similar to the Samsung Galaxy S.

Obviously at the moment we have no hard facts, however we are reliably informed that it will feature a front-facing camera and a 4-inch AMOLED display. In terms of design it is said to be a similar thickness to the Galaxy S and has a slightly concave display and a curved back.

To be honest with you the Nexus S doesn’t sound all that great, however I’m sure that if it comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread it will be a very popular device.

Will you be interested in the Google Nexus S?

Google has decided to bring it’s former Nexus One webstore back from the dead after mysteriously disappearing, mainly due to the failure of the store and Google focusing more on third-party retailers.

The Google Phone Gallery still operates under its former guise at google.com/phone, and will showcase all Android powered phones that “deliver the best Google experience”.

But it seems as though company competition still exists and the Google Gallery does not seem to want anything to do with the Samsung Galaxy, which has been tentatively named as the iPhone’s biggest rival.

The reason for this? Microsoft Bing. As it turns out, Google are doing their utmost to exclude any Android phone that uses Microsoft Bing as the default search provider. This includes the Galaxy as it also points to Bing for its search results.

Have you checked out the gallery yet? Would you be using it to make a decision regarding your next Android purchase? If the store does not seem to do the trick, you can always check out the handy flow chart we provided yesterday to help make your choice that little simpler.

We have some good news for those of you with a Google Nexus One handset, as we can confirm that the phone has just received a minor update. We have details on how you can update to the new firmware version manually.

As reported from RedmondPie, Google has not yet disclosed what the update does specifically, but since it is just a minor update, it is likely that firmware version 2.2.1 will improve stability and fix up some long-standing bugs on the device.

It is a OTA update which will be releasing soon, but thanks to Android Central and the XDA Forums, there is now a manual download guide for those of you wanting to try this out now.

There are six steps for you to follow, with users needing to download the update from the direct Google link here. Once you have done that, follow the rest of the guide over at RedmondPie.

For those of you who have already updated, let us know if you notice anything worthwhile.

If you own the Google Nexus One you have probably been eagerly awaiting the launch of Flash Player 10.1, we can now confirm that this is no longer in its beta stages and can be downloaded via the Android Market.

Chances are you probably not notice much difference between the latest beta build and the proper release, however it is nice to have Adobe’s stamp of approval to say that this release is stable and secure enough for Nexus One users to install.

The official version is Flash Player 10.1.92.8, it is 4.25MB in size, so shouldn’t take too long to download, once installed it should improve your Nexus One’s already rich web experience.

Have you installed Flash Player 10.1.92.8? If so, are there any noticeable differences from the beta versions?

We knew that the Nexus One was about to come to an end on the Google Store, but we never assumed that stock would run dry as soon as this. We have now had conformation from Google that their superphone is no longer available. However, there are still third-party vendors offering up this handset for a limited period.

Google will now make the Nexus One with Android 2.2 update available from Vodafone and also KT. If you do not mind waiting then you will eventually be able to purchase one from a listed number of developers. Engadget’s Chris Ziegler points out that if you were into buying in bulk, then you have had your day.

The Nexus One was not the best selling Android handset and did not offer the best in hardware features as the HTC EVO 4G, Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid X, but it still had that special something. One thing that will be missed is how Google made its Android updates available to the Nexus One first.

Google certainly made a mistake by trying to have more control over Android based handsets, they should have stuck to what they do best – develop the mobile OS that is taking the market by storm.

Will you miss the Nexus One once the handset totally disappears?

If you are wondering whether to buy an iPhone 4 or a high-end Android-based smartphone you can’t really go wrong either way, however if it is fast web browsing you are after we are hearing that Android 2.2 allows faster web browsing than iOS4.

A recent article posted on IntoMobile shows JavaScript benchmark results compared against eachother, in one corner is the Google Nexus One running Google Android 2.2 (FroYo) and in the other corner is the iPhone 4 running iOS 4, (all of the following benchmark results are according to IntoMobile).

Firstly we talk about the SunSpider benchmark, in this test the lower the score the better (the scores are in milliseconds), to complete the SunSpider benchmark the iPhone 4 took 10,902.1ms, whereas the Nexus One took just 5,795.2. This means that in this particular test the Nexus One was twice as fast.

In the V8 benchmark the results are also extremely positive for the Nexus One (for this test the higher the score the better). The iPhone 4 scored 67 in the test, whereas the Nexus One scored a staggering 287 in the same test, which shows that it performs over four times better than Apple’s flagship handset.

It has to be said that the Nexus One has now been out for over 5 months, which means that Google have had a lot of time to develop software for the handset, which means that they have probably optimized the handset’s web browsing capabilities.

The iPhone 4 has only been out a few weeks, therefore it is possible that an iOS 4 update will arrive soon, which could potentially seriously improve the handset’s performance in these benchmarks, we will have to wait to see.

Are you pretty shocked by the massive performance difference?

Google had hoped that the Nexus One was going to become this superphone that would be able to take the battle to the Apple iPhone, but things have gone badly wrong. The handset was due to be made available on Verizon and Sprint – both have since turned it down for the HTC DROID Incredible and the EVO 4G respectively.

Engadget reports that Google is to stop selling the Nexus One online – the only way to get one is to purchase one from a current carrier partner store. This has been a major blow for Google, the Nexus One is seen as a huge failure but at lease there are other Android OS handsets.

This could be just the first step – we expect to see Google totally give up on the failed N1 before the year is up. We do not expect the search engine giant to make a follow up such as the Nexus Two as the first handset model has burned them.

At least Google can be proud of the fact that a number the hottest smartphones on the market run or will run Android OS. It just seems a shame as the Nexus One is a nice looking phone and the recent upgrade to Android OS 2.2 making it 450 percent faster does seem like a waste.

We have some good news for consumers over in Australia now, as we are hearing rumors that Google may be planning to release their Google Nexus One handset in June.

As reported from Zdnet, rumors have surfaced from a blog in which a Vodafone representative has apparently confirmed that Google will be releasing the Nexus One smartphone either mid or late June.

Of course, this is pure speculation and may turn out to be false information, but there is no denying that a Nexus One release in Australia would be very welcomed. The HTC Desire with similar specs to the Nexus One was very well received in the country, Google are probably aware of this and should be looking to take advantage of the interest with their Nexus One.

We’ll update you when we hear more. Would you buy the Nexus One in Australia or not?

On April 21, Google announced that Vodafone UK were to start taking pre-orders for the Nexus One smartphone, we can now tell you that we now have a release date for you – April 30. That is just one day after the release of the HTC DROID Incredible on Verizon in the U.S.

According to Engadget, the Nexus One will not cost a penny for any tariff over £35 per month on either an 18 or 24-month contract, the new superphone can be pre-ordered on the Vodafone website, in store or over the phone – but do hurry to avoid disappointment. Plans will start from £25, but then you will have to pay towards the cost of the handset.

The Nexus One will offer a host of great features, many of them direct from Google – such as Free Google Maps and a choice of 40,000 apps from the App Marketplace. Many had assumed that this handset would be an iPhone killer, but slow sales have proved otherwise.

We are not certain why Google have waited this long to offer the Nexus One to the UK market, not when the iPhone 4G will be with us in a couple of months time?
