If you are a fan of Google Instant search and Chrome is your preferred web browser we have some good news for you, the developer version of Chrome 8 features integrated instant search functionality, which means it may be coming to the proper release within the coming months.

At the moment Chrome allows you to carry out a Google search by writing terms in the address bar and pressing enter, Chrome 8 will give you instant search functionality as soon as you start writing your content in the address bar.

Google has previously mentioned that they will be adding Instant search to Android, therefore it is not surprising to hear that they are adding it to Chrome, let’s just hope there is an option to turn it off as not everyone is a fan.

Currently Google has not confirmed when this functionality will be coming to the release version of Chrome, therefore we will have to keep you updated.

Do you think Google Instant search integration will make Chrome better?

Are you a fan of Google Instant search? If so, you are probably wondering if this is available on mobile, well Google has answered this question in their Google Instant search Q&A.

There is some good news and some bad news, let’s start with the bad, at the moment Instant search is not available on mobile, however the good news if that it will be launched pretty soon.

No definitive launch date has been given, however Google usually roll out their technologies further afield once they are happy with them, perhaps Android devices will get this functionality within the next month or so.

To be honest I think Instant Search is more suited to mobile devices, as lets face it typing on a mobile device is not as quick as a computer, therefore the lower the keystrokes required the better.

Earlier on, we asked you for your thoughts on Google’s new Instant Search feature which went live on their homepage recently, but now we would like to ask you if the new service actually saved time compared to the standard method.

Over on Google’s website, the company has claimed that the new Instant Search feature will save around 2-5 seconds per search, since it will now predict and display results as you type it into the search bar.

We’ve ran a few tests on their homepage, and as long as you know what you are looking for, it does seem generally quicker than the old method of hitting that search button.

However, not all of you feel the same. Over on Twitter, I’ve noticed that some of you think that the feature is annoying, and adds unnecessary confusion whilst searching. Another user comment I’ve read stated that they were actually distracted with the new search options – which is interesting.

Personally, I’m happy with Google’s new features. It is a few seconds quicker for me as Google said, and it is more useful seeing results pop up without having to scan through various pages each time.

Is Google Instant Search quicker for you or not?

Following on from our article which asked you for your impressions of Google’s new Instant Search feature on their homepage, we now have a hands-on review for you to take a look at, which focuses on the mobile version of Instant Search.

The hands-on comes to us courtesy of Engadget and gives us a good look at how Instant Search handles itself on a Motorola Droid 2 handset.

On the mobile version, you’ll only get three results displayed directly below the text box (desktop has five), but as you can see from the picture below, the mobile version will also bring up instant search results as you type.

Engadget state that search speed was pretty much the same when using a 3G or WiFi connection, while you’ll be pleased to know that mobile Instant Search also brings up thumbnails from Google Images.

According to Google, Instant Search will be available on all browsers that support AJAX, and it will be available to try this coming fall. Head to Engadget for the full hands-on.

Are you looking forward to using this on your handset?

Now that it has been a few hours since Google’s monumental announcement, how are you finding the new Instant Search feature? Is it more impressive than you first thought, or do you prefer the old method of searching?

We doubt it’s the latter, since most will agree that Google’s Instant Service is very useful indeed. If you didn’t know already, the service will display predictive search results, as you are typing – effectively ruling out the need to search pages and pages of Google results.

I’ve taken a look at some consumer feedback on Twitter, and actually the response is pretty surprising. A lot of you obviously love the new update, but some explain that Instant Search ‘doesn’t feel right’, and in some cases, others label it ‘scary’.

What are your impressions of Instant Search after having a few hours to play around with it. Is it better than the standard method of searching?

You may have recently noticed that Google has updated their popular search engine, this new update is being dubbed Google Instant search, and after playing with it for a while I think I am a fan.

From what we can see Google Instant Search is not the only new developed that Google has introduced today, they have also launched Google Scribe, which is a text completion service.

Let’s start with Google Instant search, when you use Google your results instantly show below (without you needing to press enter/return), as you add more words your results are narrowed down, which should make searching a quicker and easier task, it also seriously cuts down the amount of times some of us will press the return key per day. Try it out for yourself here. You can see fully detailed information regarding Google Instant here.

Google Scribe seems to be a work-in-progress, it is a bit like a word processor which guesses what you want to type. You can try it out here, it should save keystrokes by suggesting words and popular phrases.

I think that Google Scribe may be used in Google Chrome OS when it arrives, perhaps they plan to integrate it into their Google Docs applications, that would be great in my opinion.

Have you used Google Scribe? If so how do you think Google should use this technology?
