Earlier this week, we told you about a very impressive looking Google Glasses video tutorial, which attempted to give you a better insight into how the basic functions of Google’s new wearable tech will work. Now though, we have one of the first Google Glasses reviews to tell you about, since the product is already in the hands of many developers who forked up $1500 for the privilege of owning an early Explorer Edition.

Unfortunately though, the first review has also brought with it, the first documented Google Glasses problems. More specifically, the review over at Engadget has reserved a portion of time to talk about the battery life issues that is currently present on the Explorer Edition.

The author in question, Tim Stevens has said that on a full charge and after normal usage consisting of email browsing, viewing photos and some videos, Google Glasses can only manage around five hours of battery life. After these five hours were up, Stevens added that his pair of Glasses then “unceremoniously shut itself down”.

Even worse, he has also said that with more strenuous use of the Glasses, ie recording more lengthy videos – Google Glasses will only be able to last a few hours. It goes without saying that two hours of heavy usage will not be what consumers will be expecting if they plan to fork out a near fortune to buy one at launch.

Then again, this is a developer edition let’s not forget. Google especially put the product out early to gain feedback like this, so there’s a good chance that Google will be improving on battery life before the final version is out. Read the full review through the link for some lovely pictures and let us know your initial reaction to the battery life problems.

Are you surprised and perhaps a little shocked that battery life is so poor? We would have thought that a good impression should have been made to developers, but we may be hearing a little more about weak Google Glasses battery life as the weeks go on.

If you are interested about Google’s upcoming Project Glass technology, but are actually not sure how the process will work, Google has attempted to make things a lot clearer this week. We think they have succeeded as well, releasing an excellent video tutorial showing some of the basic functions and virtual interfaces you’ll see in front of you if you manage to pick up a pair later in 2013.

At the moment, access is exclusively reserved for developers, with each one paying a handsome sum of $1500 for the pleasure of getting to grips with a pair of glasses before everyone else, glasses that can be modified with custom features as developers see fit.

We were initially impressed with the general concept of Google Glasses, but after watching this video, we have to say that we now can’t wait to get our hands on a pair. Some critics are saying that it is an expensive gimmick and that it will never work, but we can definitely see a future where many consumers will want to try these out.

Watch how Google demonstrates the use of the touchpad, which is located on the side of the glassess, supporting touch input from the length of the user’s temple, to the ear. The interface is activated on the press of a simple touch, while navigation is handled by swiping across the touchpad or swiping downwards depending on the interface menu that you see in front of you.

Speaking of which, Google also reveals that a clock widget will act as the main Glasses homescreen interface, while a series of information cards, such as stocks and weather form the timeline. Cards on the left hand side are new pieces of information that are either live or about to happen, while cards on the right are older pieces of information – like already opened messages or videos for example.

It looks fantastic and it all makes us wonder what the price is going to be for the innovative technology. You just know it isn’t going to be cheap on the market, but that still doesn’t decrease our interest for getting one. Watch the tutorial above for a clearer insight into Google Glasses and let us know if you are now seriously considering getting a pair for yourself.

Earlier on this week we shared a very useful infographic with you, giving you a clear picture of the technology and features that are powering Google’s innovative Glasses product. Now, we have a much needed release update for those you who have already put down $1500 for the luxury of owning a developer version of the Glasses.

If you have been keeping an eye on updates for the elusive product, you’ll know that Google hasn’t said a lot about their upcoming Glasses, only that they will be ready for developer release soon. We have seen a few sightings in the wild of the new tech in the media, but nothing else apart from that.

Now, we have some official news from Google at last, as the company has told TechCrunch that the first batch of Google Glasses will ship to developers ‘within a month’. Google were speaking at the recent Glass Collective event when they revealed the status update, although obviously the company were still unwilling to commit to an actual shipping date just yet.

We imagine that Google are still putting the finishing touches on their wearable Glasses, as the worst thing they could do is release the sets with major functionality not working – especially for such a high profile launch and after the hype these sets of glasses have received throughout the last few months.

The 30 day time frame now fits in perfectly with the company’s upcoming Google I/O conference, which will take place between May 15 and May 17. That means ideally, developers will already have their Glasses at hand when Google take to the stage to give their final demonstration of the product, before releasing it to the public later on in the year.

If developers have paid $1500 for an early taster of the glasses though, what is going to be the final price for consumers when it lands on the Google Play Store? More importantly, how much would you be willing to pay for a set? We just pray that when they finally do become available to buy, the Play Store will be better equipped to deal with the inevitable high demand – unlike what we saw with the Nexus 4 saga.

If you watched some of the 2013 Oscars after party coverage, you may have seen a little cameo of the elusive Google Glasses tech, as briefly shown off by Google Co-Founder Sergey Brin’s wife. Now, we have had an additional sighting of the upcoming tech, as the Google Glasses have shown up on sale on online marketplace Ebay.

The Project Glass concept was due to go sale to developers at the end of last year, but so far that hasn’t happened. Google’s I/O conference is coming up in May though, so there are signs that this could be the event that Google finally decides to let developers have their own hands-on time with the innovative tech.

It is known that an asking price of $1500 will be needed for developers to get their hands on a pair of Google Glasses, with select developers already knowing if they have been chosen to participate in the initial rollout before a public release. With this in mind, an Ebay listing had been spotted recently, with one seller claiming that they were one of the selected individuals in line for a pair, but was willing to auction off the glasses for the right price.

We can tell you that the highest bid on the auction reached as high as $15,000 US at one point, but as of now – the auction has been abruptly ended and the information on the glasses is nowhere to be seen. The seller in question had been identified with the name “bla7kcat”, but we wonder if Google had possibly tracked him down to stop the sale from going through?

It goes without saying that it was a bit cheeky to even attempt to sell these off, but then again you could argue that if he or she was paying $1500 for a developer pair, then they are also entitled to make a profit on the purchase if they chose to. Let us know what you would do in the same situation if you had a pair of Google Glasses.

Would you keep them or try to sell them off for $15,000 too?

Last April Google announced to the tech world that they were working on a new project called Google Glass, and in that time we have seen a number of developments, but it still seems that we are so far away from the device getting a public release. However, we are now one step closer as there are to be two events where developers will get their hands on them.

It’s reported that at the end of the month Google will hold two events called Glass Foundry in New York and San Francisco where developers will get to spend two days with the gadget to look at different ways in which they can help develop the glasses.

On the first day of each event devs will get an introduction to the product with the second day looking at the Mirror API aspect of the project. Google engineers will be on hand to answer any questions the developers may have, and we assume that the engineers could also learn a thing or two about what the developers feel would help benefit the project.

However, it’s at the end of the second day that excites us the most because the developers will be able to show Google what they have come up with so far. Let’s hope that there are a few suggestions in regards to overall design, because they seem a little obvious at the moment. However, they are less conspicuous than the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses seen at CES 2013.

You have to admire a good concept and this latest one that we have to show you is rather brilliant we have to say. If you’re familiar with Google’s recent Project Glass initiative, you’ll be interested to know that somebody has created a video game version of it.

It’s not just any old video game though, but rather a concept look at how Battlefield 5 may look in the distant future if combined with a pair of Google’s fancy glasses. In short, the person in the video is able to load up a virtual Battlefield sim straight from the glasses, using the location that he is currently situated.

Soldiers come out of nowhere and there’s plenty of Battlefield effects to be seen, including some pretty realistic knife action. The video takes elements from Google’s original Project Glass video, such as being able to toggle music on and off through the glasses, as well as being able to take a video call instantly, whilst still being in the Battlefield sim.

Sound a bit too unrealistic to you? Perhaps, but that’s why it’s a concept and it is very well made. The video, made by ‘There is a Canal’ seems to have already attracted the attention of EA, as we can see that the video has already been uploaded to the official Battlefield Facebook page. Job done then for the creator?

This could be the first progression into a virtual reality future of video games, and it may seem farfetched right now, but it is obviously going to happen sooner or later – in the comfort of your own home. We just hope that Google’s Glasses come with a disclaimer, otherwise people are going to get seriously hurt running around abandoned warehouse sites pretending to shoot imaginary people.

What are your thoughts on the concept – do you like it?
