If you’ve recently purchased or you’re thinking about buying a new Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, you might be wondering about what apps there are available to download. There are in fact quite a few applications that are either designed or have been optimized specifically for Honeycomb tablets.

The question is however which ones are worth downloading? We found a recent article by Tim Conneally over on betanews.com, which takes a look at some of the applications that are available for Android Honeycomb tablets and provides a list of the 10 best apps to download.

If you enjoy playing tactical role-playing games, then Spectral Souls may just be the ideal app for you. The Spectral Souls app may be a little on the expensive side at $14.76, but for that you get hundreds of hours of gameplay, 52 different soundtracks and a total of 82 different characters.

Another great application on the list is Electrum. Although the Electrum drum machine application has been around for over 2 years, it’s just received a UI revamp especially for Honeycomb tablets. Then there is the Google Body application for the more inquisitive Android Honeycomb users.

Users are presented with a scalable 3D rendering of a human body, which can then be viewed as different layers such as bones, muscle and circulatory etc. The list would not be complete without the Angry Birds Rio game, which is said to look and handle beautifully on Honeycomb tablets.

You can view what other apps made it on the list via the betanews.com website.

We have some rather interesting news now for all you Android users out there that thought they were missing out when the WatchESPN application was released onto the Apple App Store for iOS devices, as the popular app is now available for Android devices too.

As Dakota Torres over at unwiredview.com recently noted, the WatchESPN app will enable users to watch a live stream of many of the popular sports network’s channels including ESPNU, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3, allowing them to keep up to date with their favorite sporting events.

This means they can watch sporting events such as the NBA Playoffs, Major League Baseball and even all four of the tennis Grand Slams, direct on their Android device. Users can also watch Mike and Mike in the Morning, SportsCenter or any other ESPN original show.

The WatchESPN application does require users to be running Android 2.2 or above, as well as have the Adobe Air app installed. The biggest downside of the WatchESPN app is the fact that you can only watch content if you are a customer of a specific list of cable providers.

These include Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS TV and Bright House Networks. However, ESPN has mentioned that it intends to have more cable providers added in the future. You can read more about the WatchESPN app over on the Android Market.

Will you be downloading the WatchESPN app?

If you own an Android device and you currently use the 7digital application, then you might be interested to know that the app has just received an updated version. The updated app has added a number of new features, including MP3 downloads and last.fm scrobbling.

As Samia Perkins at androidcommunity.com notes, the 7digital for Android app now allows users to download music to their devices. Previously, users were required to download music onto their computer and then sync their device, but now they just buy music directly from their device.

The 7digital application features a music store with around 14 million tracks, which users can search and preview from their device. The app even provides users with the option of downloading a lower quality track while using a cellular network, so they can save bandwidth and battery.

As mentioned above, the updated 7digital app also allows for last.fm scrobbling, which can be enabled or disabled via the settings screen. Other features include 30-second previews of all tracks, so you can try before you buy and the ability to create and manage playlists within the app itself.

Users are able to search for music by genre and new releases, as well as by artist, track or album names. What do you think about the 7digital for Android application?

It appears that Nintendo’s hugely popular Mario kart racing game could well be facing a bit of stiff competition soon, when the upcoming KartRiderRush game – originally named Crazyracing Kartrider – finally makes its way on the iOS and Android mobile platforms some time this year.

According to a recent article by Mike Jackson over at computerandvideogames.com (via Kotaku), the Korean kart racing game has become a huge success in its home country. In fact, it’s so successful that nearly a third of the country’s population has already played the game.

The question in our minds however is whether the KartRiderRush game can truly be a rival for the Mario Kart title. After all, Mario Kart DS was in fact the sixth best-selling DS game with a total of 20.7 million copies sold worldwide as of December last year.

KartRiderRush has only ever been played in the west as beta tests, which were held back in 2007 and 2008. A full version of the game was promised for last year, but it obviously never happened. The title is now skipping consoles altogether, and going to straight to Android and iOS.

The mobile version will be free to download, but players will have to pay for extra tracks, characters and other items. KartRiderRush will feature four-player offline-racing, cel-shaded cartoon visuals and a choice of either tilt or touch controls. You can view a video of the app below this post.

What do you think of the KartRiderRush game? Will it give Mario Kart a run for its money?

Back at the beginning of February Google rolled out an update for its popular Google Maps for Android app, which as we previously mentioned here added the Latitude check-in functionality. Now it appears that Google Maps for Android has been updated yet again.

According to a recent article by Gabe Peters over on the pocketnow.com website (sourced from Droid Life), Google has now released version 5.2 of its widely-used Google Maps for Android app, which provides users with more social networking features.

For example, the Google Places feature is now integrated with Twitter, allowing users to share their opinion and other information about a specific location. Android users will now be provided with simple icons, a short amount of text to choose from and a 1.5 star rating.

Another great feature included in the 5.2 update is the ability to ping your friends through the Google Latitude support. Latitude enables users to view their friends’ recent check-ins on the map, and now it will allow them to ping a friend to request a new check-in.

Once the friend checks-in, Google Maps will provide users with a notification enabling them to meet up. Do you own an Android device? If so, do you use the Google Maps for Android app?

It looks like Nvidia has decided that now is the perfect time to release its new Tegra Zone app onto the Google Android Market, what with all the Android devices featuring the company’s dual-core Tegra 2 chip that are scheduled to be released soon.

According to a recent article by Devindra Hardawar over at venturebeat.com (via Engadget), the Tegra Zone application features a list of games that all take advantage of the powerful hardware. However, the app still guides users to the Android Market to download the games.

Games that have been enhanced for the Tegra 2 hardware include features such as improved AI, more interactivity (due to the ability to display more characters on the screen) and better quality graphics, including complex lighting an higher resolution textures.

Devices that run on the Tegra 2 chip include the recently-released Motorola Xoom tablet, the LG Optimus 2X smartphone, and other upcoming Android 3.0 Honeycomb devices such as the LG Optimus Pad and Samsung’s new 10-inch Galaxy Tab.

The list of games featured within the Tegra Zone app include Fruit Ninja THD, Backbreaker THD, Galaxy on Fire 2 THD and Dungeon Defenders: First Wave Deluxe HD. Besides games, the app will also feature game reviews, screenshots, HD trailers and much more.

You can view a video of the Tegra Zone app in action via the engadget.com website. Would you download the Tegra Zone app?

If you own a Google Android-based smartphone we have some good news for you, recently released figures show that the Android Market has a higher percentage of free apps when compared to all rival app stores.

If you check out IntoMobile’s recent article you can see a chart showing a comparison between the Android Market and all other application stores, the chart shows that the 57% of the apps available from the Android Market are completely free.

Apple’s App Store for iPhone only features just 28% of free apps, however lets not forget that 28% of all of the apps at the App Store is far more than 57% of the apps at the Android Market.

The latest figures show that there are roughly 85,000 apps available today from the Android Market, which means that there are roughly 48,500 free apps to choose from, whereas there are currently around 225,000 apps at Apple’s App Store, which means there are roughly 63,000 free apps to download.

There is no doubt that the Android Market is growing rapidly (apparently by 10,000 apps per month), therefore it will be interesting to see how the Android Market compares to the App Store this time next year. Do you think the Android Market will overtake the App Store?
