We’ve got some great news now for those of you that have just purchased the Motorola Xoom tablet running Google’s Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system, as CNN has just launched its brand new application, which has been designed exclusively for Honeycomb tablets.

According to a recent article by Kayla Adams over on the gizmocrunch.com website, the CNN for Android news app – which is currently free to download from the Android Market – provides users with live video broadcasts, as well as pre-recorded news.

The CNN for Android app is also available as a widget for your homescreen, which is a feature that isn’t included in the iPad version. If users are interested in reading the full details of a news article, they just have to click the story and launch the application.

As Kelly from intomobile.com recently reported, the news stories are presented in a variety of views including a broadsheet view that features left-rail navigation and a grid-based view that displays several stories at once. The app features both images and video of breaking news stories.

The application is also the very first tablet PC app to use CNN’s iReport feature, which enables users to read community-generated news articles. It also allows users to contribute to the news, by uploading video and images to the CNN iReport website.

During a Google TV press event that took place in Tokyo recently, Yoshihisa Ishida, the head of the Sony TV division spoke to reporters and suggested that they would continue to use Android in more consumer electronic products in the future.

Which products you might ask? That we don’t know as he did not say specifically. We do know this though, that Sony’s PlayStation division are looking for Android developers.

We also have it on good authority that Sony are intending on releasing an Ericsson device that has an Android 3.0 mobile gaming platform.

So this would mean that the future of Sony products could potentially be in the hands of Android developers. How do you feel about this?

Now that most of the top Android handsets have updated to 2.2 Froyo, it is now time to start looking at what new features 3.0 will bring. We have just learned that the Gingerbread update could come with Video Chat – this would certainly be something that users would want.

According to an article on Android and Me, Taylor Wimberly had a conversation with Andy Rubin about the possibility of video chat after saying that they are working on a solution to offer what desktop users already enjoy.

This comes as no surprise really, as a number of new Android handset now come with front-facing cameras, such as the HTC EVO 4G amongst others. The Apple iPhone 4 already uses this feature, which is called FaceTime, but there are limitations. Only those with another fourth-generation iPhone can use it, and you have to be connected to a Wi-Fi network – unless you have a jailbreak.

Wimberly also had a chat with partners of Tegra 2, and it seems that Google Android 3.0 Gingerbread will come with a host of other features, all of which will make us change how we use our handsets.

Is Video Chat something that you would use?
