We now have a great gameplay clip to show you, which gives you an idea of how multiplayer will work in Ascension and just like we’ve seen in single player campaigns – multiplayer is still going to be as violent as ever.

The gameplay shown appears to be an online deathmatch mode, with players having the ability to finish off opponents with a close-up brutal execution. The object of the game from what we can see is to rack up as many points as you can. You can do this by obviously killing as many opponents as possible, or by grabbing items from the various chests that are scattered around the map as well.

You can pick up more powerful weapons as power-ups, ones which deal a lot more damage, but only last for a limited time only. One thing that we do like the look of is the various traps you can set for your opponents. By setting traps using R1, you can begin combat with an enemy and then lead them towards the trap as you’re fighting. If they land on the trap they’ll take extra damage, but so will you if you don’t escape quickly enough.

It looks like an interesting addition to God of War, but at the end of the day they had to add multiplayer in sooner or later. Hopefully the game contains a lot more multiplayer modes than the one seen, otherwise it may get a little boring rather quickly. Are you getting Ascension or not?

Sony has sent out a message on Twitter, reminding God of War fans around the world that there will be a live stream in a few hours in which game director Todd Papy will be unveiling the game to a watching audience.

There’s no confirmation that gameplay will be shown, but considering that there is a live stream put in place, we doubt that Papy will be merely talking about the game – he must have some juicy action to unveil for thirsty God of War fanatics. Unlike the Assassin’s Creed 3 reveal, we’re yet to see any initial screenshot leaks for the game, so we have no idea how the game looks graphics wise.

We hoped that Sony may confirm a title for the PS Vita as well, but Sony has already ruled this out for the time being as Ascension will be a PS3 exclusive. With that in mind, the game has a lot of expectations to live up to after God of War 3 and also especially since other announced PS3 games are looking so good – The Last of Us being the one that stands out so far.

Will this end up being a prequel to the first God of War game, or will Ascension take a route similar to the two PSP games Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta in which we saw a completely different story? We can’t wait to see the quality of Ascension, so we’ll be tuning in to the stream for sure. Will you? If so, let us know your expectations and what you need to see in order to secure your purchase. It’s a shame that Amazon has had to leak it in this way and we’re guessing that Sony will not be too happy about it. Now that it’s out there though, there’s no point hiding away from it – God of War Ascension will be coming to the PS3, but since it won’t be God of War 4, we have a sneaky suspicion that it may appear on the PS Vita as well.

In the trailer we see the words Olympus and Ghost of Sparta mentioned, which most of you hardcore fans should know highlight the two God of War games that released on the PSP – Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. The trailer also suggests that this game will be a prequel of some sort, rather than a full on sequel to God of War III.

Amazon has even decided to post the box art for the game as well. Despite them saying that the box art is ‘not final’, it looks pretty final to us and includes the standard ‘Only on PlayStation’ text in the top right corner. For those of you that are still doubting this as genuine, don’t forget that Sony’s own Facebook poster had a file name including the letters ‘gowa’ – so this is definitely real folks.

It’s not the God of War ‘Ashes’ game that some of you had been hearing about, but Ascension sounds like a pretty cool name to us. The only thing left now is for Sony to make this official, despite everyone knowing about it now – how many times has this happened to the company over the years?
