If your work requires you to own your own truck, or even if you are a company with a fleet of your own trucks then keeping them serviced is very important. Keeping up with basic truck maintenance can make the difference between making money and losing it – and I know which you would rather choose. Just remember that a utility truck has to work much harder than your average family car.

All the time your truck is off the road it is costing you money, so make certain that you keep on top of that maintenance schedule. Thankfully help is at hand with the aid of FastMaint CMMS software; it does not matter how big or small your business is, it is said that this is the maintenance software to have. This is not needed if you are a one-man band – that can be done just by making a note on your computer. For more details visit the SM Global website.

One of the cheapest and easiest things to keep your truck running is by getting that oil changed; remember the more work your truck does the sooner you will need to replace that oil. If left too long then the oil will get thin and will not be able to protect all the metal pieces inside. DOITYourself.com recommends that you change the oil every two to three thousand miles – much sooner than a car then.

Keeping an eye on those tires is very important as well, how bad would it be to lose your load because you had no tread left on your tires? These are just two bits of advice; DOITYourself.com has a host of maintenance tips for you.

Considering buying a new truck, then read our recent article on how to compare each truck model, as well as finding out what was Truck of the Year.

When it comes to choosing a truck you might have a choice of two or three in mind – maybe even more – so how do you know that you are making the right choice? Thankfully there is a way where you can compare each model side by side – even if they are 2011 or even 2012 models. To help you out Automotive has a great comparison tool just for the job.

When you visit their website you will see that you have the choice to compare up to 4 vehicles at once. All the information that you need to know will be there for you to study, as well as images of the interior and exterior, specs, price and much more. However, I might have found an issue, as there are no 2012 model trucks showing up only cars; you might have to wait a month or two, before the automakers start to release details on their next models.

Do not let that put you off though, as you can still compare 2011 trucks side by side – there’s nothing better than seeing two models next to each other to truly compare those differences.

The Auto Channel also has the same tool; again you can only compare up to four trucks or cars at a time – but how many more would you have on your shortlist? This comparison tool is extensive in the way that you can look at 100 criteria of the truck. Which truck are you considering purchasing and why?

Just a piece of advice, remember that the Ford Explorer 2011 was voted Truck of the Year. Also you need to make certain that you save as much fuel as possible when driving a truck, as we know how much fuel they take; so read our tips on how to extend your gas mileage.
