The Karma app has hit the headlines recently thanks to Facebook’s acquisition, although how good is this application really and does it bring a better solution to send gifts to friends and family?

Just 8 days into this month the Karma app jumped to version 1.80, and with it brought bug fixes that has made the experience better, which has been pointed out by a few comments on the official iTunes page with statements like “working again“. We had a little play with Karma on our iPhone and found it pretty easy to use, and it was great to not have to know the address of the person you want to send a gift to (never been that good with keeping track of addresses).

We’d have to agree with the new iPhone Rumors blog, when they state the app has a “very niche catalog“, which is thanks to what seems to be a selective partnership by those behind Karma. It will be interesting to see how the gifting app changes now it has been acquired by Facebook, and we hope they expand the gift catalog dramatically to provide a better service.

What do you think about the Karma gift-giving app for iPhone? Do you think the best gift is your time rather than spending it on Facebook, or is this a good solution for your busy lifestyle? We’ve embedded a video below that features the Karma co-founder talking about the app, and why it was created in the first place. The key success for this app comes from everyone sharing everything on Facebook, and with that connection you’re able to reach out and send a gift with Karma via email, SMS, and Facebook.

As we have already reported lots of canny consumers hit the stores today for the after Christmas sales. They could be getting some bargains for next year’s presents or something for now, and there will be some going out to spend any gift cards or cash they may received. There is now a growing trend of people using gift card exchanges, which can solve unwanted woes.

Many of us would have received gifts over the holiday season that are not to our tastes, which could be that brightly colored sweater or any other gift that won’t see the light of day. Some people can be hard to buy for so you decide to purchase a gift card for them, but what if it is for a store they never think of visiting?

There is help at hand now with a growing selection of gift card exchange services springing up to offer a solution to those unwanted cards. Today is Gift Card Exchange Day that was created by Gift Card Granny according to an article here. Consumers can go to the website and enter where the gift card is for and for how much, and they are then given instant bids from a variety of resellers who want to purchase the cards.

The service only works with reputable resellers and there is a consumer protection built-in to the service. Gift cards from the likes of Target and Walmart will see you get a higher return on your exchange.

Consumers can also use some other gift card exchange services such as Cardpool.com, GiftCards.com, and PlasticJungle.com. PlasticJungle for instance will pay you up to 96.6% for your unwanted Walmart gift card, and you can be paid via PayPal, cashier’s check, and even an Amazon gift card. The site also has a number of gift cards on offer for a variety of retailers offered at a discount.

Retailers report that many gift cards that a given as gifts are often never redeemed, and either expire or forgotten about in a draw somewhere. Did you receive any gift cards that were for retailers you never use?

What is it with us humans and leaving things to the last moment? You find the perfect Father’s Day gifts and because you left it last minute the chances of getting them on time are unlikely, this is especially the case when looking to buy something online.

We posted a cool gadget earlier today, the GAEMS G155 that converts the PS3 and Xbox 360 into a portable games system, that most dads would love and could arrive as a late, or you’ll have to find something else.

This got us thinking about all the procrastinators looking online right now for that last minute Father’s Day gift, and we thought it would be a good idea for our readers to get some pointers. So we had a little look around and found a couple of ideas that may help you.

Those of you that want to find a gift you’ll be able to pick up on the way to dad should see this article, which looks at Father’s day gifts that are quick and easy to get, although they will not break the bank. Ideas include an iTunes gift card, Netflix subscription, RC helicopter and GPS.

Crunch Gear has taken a look at 11 gifts for Fathers Day 2011 that are perfect for the geek dad, and range from cell phone cases to rockets and a night out at a cheesy sports bar. The last one sounds like it could be a win-win for son-in-laws, although you’d need to be on good terms with the father-in-law.

Our favorite list comes from USA Today who has thought about gifts with impact, while these are not for everyone, they sure do cater to people who like to do it differently. The gifts range from golf and fitness gadgets to signed guitars, and ideas for military fathers.

Check out the lists via the websites above and let us know what you like the most, also feel free to share your tips with those that love to leave things to the last minute.

Mothers Day is the ideal date for tech gifts, as they would not normally purchase such products for themselves. We live in a world where technology is a way of life, so how about getting something for your mother to make her happy? There are so many different gadgets to choose from, from smartphones, cameras, GPS systems, tablet PCs and so much more.

Knowing what to get your mother comes down to a few key, namely price points, what she needs, and if it would actually be practical. We gave you an idea the other day about getting your mother a laptop or smartphone and signing her up to Twitter or Facebook, as this would be ideal to keep in touch more regularly.

We already have a few other tech gifts for you to consider, with the first being the Amazon Kindle. This is perfect if your mother loves to read and hates having to purchase a book, just to throw it away, as room is an issue. The Kindle is still the best eReader on the market and is also one of the cheapest.

Next up you could consider purchasing a compact camera. Going back a few years you would have had to spend a small fortune to get something half decent – not any more. There ss a choice to choose from, but we would suggest going for a Panasonic or Canon model. They are a little more expensive, but it will be worth it.

We all know how our mothers have to do a lot of driving, maybe to come visit us, go to the local store, or even visit friends. So a GPS could be the perfect gift. Most of the time they go on the same route, but if you choose one with live traffic information, she can always stay away from those traffic jams.

Finally, if you are feeling a little generous, then why not get you mother the ultimate Mothers Day gift, an iPad 2. Yes this is a little expensive, but this would certainly keep her amused for hours each day. She can check her emails, play games with apps, download recipes, read the news and also listen to music.

These are just a few ideas for Mothers Day, do you have any more?

May the 8th is fast approaching, so we are certain that you are looking for a few Mothers Day gift ideas? There are two things that you should consider, the gift of time and technology. More often than not your mother is a little out of touch with all the latest tech, but why not sit down and spend some time with her to get her up to speed?

This idea works both ways, your mother misses you and you miss her, this will be a way for the both of you to spend some quality time together. An ideal gift for the person who gave you life is a smartphone, what better way to keep in touch? You can show your mother how the device works and maybe even sign her up to Facebook.

This will be like the gift that keeps giving, as you will be able to share photos of some of the things that you get up to – within reason of course. This is perfect if mother and child live too far away from each other to visit once or twice a week. If she is happy with her phone then why not a laptop or tablet device instead? You can still keep in touch with these devices, but she can also have her own fun as well.

If you do not wish your mother to have access to your Facebook, then maybe you could sign her up to Twitter, and keep in touch that way. More often than not you find it hard to hold a long conversation with your mum, so what better way to let her know that all is fine than a tweet?

One year my brother got my mother a laptop, and now she is on it everyday, keeping in touch with people on Facebook; but mostly enjoying the games that come on The Social Network. Remember, if money is tight, then there is still no excuse, as we have just explained above.

What is the perfect gift for your mother?

With just 16 days left until Christmas, if you have not got all your gifts yet – then you had better get a hurry on. Knowing what to buy someone gets tougher each year, but not if they are into their gadgets. What is needed here is a guide for top tech gifts for the 2010 holidays.

If you know that the person you are buying for loves gadgets, then this makes it much easier, as there has been a host of new technology launched this year. It’s so easy to go for the most obvious, but that could be a mistake because they may already have it.

Looking around there are a number of websites that offer you some gift ideas, we already gave you a few ideas a couple of week ago. However, the likes of PC World offers a more extensive guide, which they are calling “Cool Yule Tools.”

Some of the gadgets are obvious choices, but there are some that would never have thought of, such as a 3M Mpro 120 Pocket Projector. However, if you want something a bit more updated, then you should read our hands-on review of the 150 model.

Another great idea is a Powermat Wireless Charging Portable Mat, which uses induction technology. Visit PC Word now for their full list of 25 gadget ideas of this holiday.

However, it is CNET Reviews who has the most extensive holiday gift guide for 2010. They have broken this down into different categories, which does make it easier if you kind of know that gadget you are looking for. There is even a video that will help you with choosing that perfect gift.

What do you hope to get this year?

Time seems to be racing by this year, which means that it’s going to be Christmas before we know it. While it may be hard thinking of gift ideas for some, gaming fans (such as my 16-year old son) are pretty easy to buy for. Unless you just don’t know what games to choose that is.

If it’s a PlayStation 3 owner you are buying for, then you may be interested in an article I found over at gamingbolt.com that was written by Rashid Sayed. The article provides a list of all the games, collector’s editions and hardware that might be worth purchasing this Christmas.

God of War 3 is the first game mentioned on the list, described as a 15-hour adventure that you really don’t want to miss. Heavy Rain is also on the list followed by Sports Champion for the PlayStation Move. With so much to do, Sports Champions is sure to have something for everyone.

Other games on the list include Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Gran Turismo 5 and Mod Nation Racers. If they haven’t already got it, the PlayStation Move starter pack is another great gift idea for Christmas this year. You could even buy them a PS3 Sports Champions Move bundle.

You can view the full list via gamingbolt.com. Have you bought any video games for anyone this Christmas?

Retailers all over the U.S. have been preparing for tomorrow’s Cyber Monday sales (although some have kicked off today) recently, by posting details of the deals that will be offered. We’ve already brought you news from JCPenney, Staples, Walmart and Best Buy, now it is Gamestop’s turn.

As reported in a recent article by Saiyan over at saiyanisland.com, Gamestop sent the website an email recently, which contained a partial list of the video game deals they will be offering come Cyber Monday. This includes great stocking fillers, such as Up for the PS2 and Rune Factory 2 for the Nintendo DS.

Both of these titles will be on offer for just $9.99 on Cyber Monday. If it’s an adult you are trying to buy for this Christmas, then you might like the Microsoft Kinect Sports bundle, which will be on sale for $249.97. However, you don’t necessarily have to wait until Cyber Monday, to pick up a bargain.

Ever since Apple released its popular iPad tablet PC back in April, it has gone on to become one of the most popular and sought-after gadgets of this year. That’s why it comes as no surprise, to learn that the iPad is in fact at the top of the list of most wished for gifts this Christmas.

If you thought that gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 would be at the top of the list of the most wanted items this Christmas, you’d be very wrong. According to an article over at tqcast.com by Desz, research from The Nielson Company shows the Apple iPad at the top.

The list shows the most desired electronic devices by kids aged between 6 and 12 years and surprisingly, the iPad is right at the top. What’s even more surprising is the fact that the PS3 came fifth on the list and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console came second from the bottom.

A computer was the second most desired electronic device on the list, while the Apple iPod Touch came in third. When you look at the list for children over the age of 13 years however, the iPad is no longer at the top. The most desired electronic Christmas gift for over 13s appears to be a computer.

The second most desired electronic on that list is a TV, followed by a non iPhone smartphone. The PS3 came ninth on the second list, while the Xbox 360 came in 12th. The iPad hasn’t disappeared off the list completely though, as it came in at number 4. You can read more via tqcast.com.

What have your children put on their Christmas wish list this year?
