Instead, the new game – which will be released for the PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network on March 23rd – will feature a brand new cast of characters. According to Stephany Nunneley at vg247.com, Atari has now detailed the new characters.

The first character profiled is the leader of the team, Alan Crendall. Although he has no real background in the paranormal, he is practical and hardworking. When things go wrong, he’s always the one with the plan. Next up is Samuel Hazer.

Hazer is an optimistic scientist, whose positive attitude keeps the team’s spirits high. Then there is Bridget Gibbons, who has been described as a tough chick with a fierce determination. Although she doesn’t have any paranormal training, she’s a natural at ghostbusting.

The final member of the team is Gabriel Sitter, who just happens to be the technical genius of the team. Max Scoville from destructoid.com spent some hands-on time with the Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime game recently. Read his preview of the game here.

A few days after that, we brought you some gameplay footage.

Now it appears that Atari has just released another new trailer, which according to Lee C over at thesixthaxis.com shows us the environments that will be featured in the top-down arcade shooter. As you can see in the trailer (below this post), this includes inside buildings and underground sewers.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, which has been developed by Chilean developer Wanako Studios, sees players take on the role of a rookie who has been hired by the Ghostbusters to save NYC from a ghoulish disaster, and features four-player online multiplayer gameplay.

Besides releasing the recent environments trailer, Atari has also released a few screenshots for the upcoming game. AS Tom Ivan over at computerandvideogames.com previously reported, the new screens show some of the enemies and weapons featured in the Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime title.

Now we are brining you some footage of the gameplay and boy does it look fun.

For all of you Ghostbusters fans out there this could be the best game they have released yet, although there is no sign of the voices from the films. You start out as a rookie trying to stop the ruin of New York City and the game has an array of different environments to explore and hunt down some ghosts. It also has a heap of jobs for you to complete throughout the game.

The CEO, Jim Wilson of Atari said “In Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, we are introducing an entirely new look and gameplay experience on digital platforms that will impress new and loyal Ghostbusters fans alike,” You can view the gameplay footage at the bottom of this article courtesy of Eurogamer and Machinima.

The game is 4 players and I for one cannot wait for this release, it’s expected around spring 2011. I just hope that the game is long enough to be sat around with a few friends having a beer fighting ghosts. I am also hoping that they introduce something a little different to the game, like a view point from the ghosts, like a separate campaign but am I just dreaming?

As reported from VG247, the title will be called Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime and it will be developed by relatively unknown Chilean-based company Wanako Studios.

Unlike the third-person based Ghostbuster title handled by Terminal Reality, Sanctum of Slime will be an over the top, arcade style co-op adventure game, with support for up to four players on screen.

Details are very scarse in terms of storyline, but we’re hearing that the rookie featured in the last game will be heavily featured in SoS. However, it doesn’t look like the Ghostbuster film actors, Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and Co will be returning for Sanctum of Slime.

The good news though, is that some early screenshots of the game have already been uncovered, courtesy of USA Today, who also confirm that players will be able to drive the Ecto-4WD vehicle. The game is due out in Spring, on the PSN, Xbox Live and PC.
