We have been providing lots of news regarding the recent Geneva Motor Show with some very exciting cars being unveiled and concepts being announced. The latest concept we are to bring you news of is SEAT’s IBX.

This hybrid vehicle comes following their previous all electric IBE concept which showcased in the Paris Auto Show last year.

SEAT’s new concept, which they are referring to as a ‘crossover,’ will be a sports style vehicle designed for an active urban sport lifestyle. Its combined internal combustion and electric powered engine will allow it to travel 45km on electric alone.

As reported by EarthTechling it’s a compact car measuring 4.26m x 1.80m x 1.62m. It is set to run front-wheel drive but will also offer a 4WD option in addition to the engine options that will be available from SEAT’s current injection range, either TSI or TDI. Other efficiency technologies will also be integrated into the final design.

As far as the design of the outside of the car goes, it will feature the SEAT logo embedded onto the grill as with its other popular vehicles and its stylish narrow headlamps will use LED technology similar to that of the AUDI design. What do you think of the SEAT IBX? Check out the video below for a closer look.

Most of the big motor manufacturers have various electric cars in development or already coming to the market. BMW first showed off the ActiveE Concept back at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. Now the German auto maker has showcased its latest offering of its electric 1-Series at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Jeff Glucker of autoblog is reporting that the ActiveE will start rolling out to certain markets come the Fall of 2011. The ActiveE comes after the MiniE which has seen a fleet of 600 being field tested, but now BMW are set to produce 1,000 vehicles.

BMW will show off the ActiveE in North America for the first time in April at the New York Auto Show. Following that it will find its way onto driveways and garages of residents in Boston, Connecticut, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, and New York.

The ActiveE will be powered by a set of liquid-cooled SB LiMotive batteries, which have enough power to generate 170 horsepower and 184lb-ft of torque. It can hit sixty miles per hour in around nine seconds, and has a range of one hundred miles.

BMWs ActiveE can be fully charged in four to five hours using a 32amp connection, and is capable of 25 miles after just a one hour charge. It can also be charged from a conventional wall socket found in the home.

With the Geneva Motor Show still ongoing the nominees have been have already been announced, for the World Car of the Year. They have been narrowed down to just three vehicles with one in particular somewhat of a surprise.

Last year’s winner, the reliable VW Polo will have to make way this year for either the BMW 5 series, the Audi A8 or the shock nominee Nissan Leaf. Although people did not expect the Leaf to make the top three, all the finalists are certainly worthy.

Some cars that didn’t quite make the final three are being commended with honorable mentions as they made it to the top ten shortlist for World Car of the Year. The full shortlist which includes the BMW X3 and Audi A1 can be seen at The Tech Herald.

The winner of this prestigious prize is to be announced at New York’s International Auto Show which kicks off April 21st, where awards for World Green Car and World Performance car of the Year will also be presented.

What do you think of these three finalists? Is there a car that you think should have made the top three instead? Which do you think will win? Share your thoughts below.

Saab have never been regarded as producing cars that drivers would dream of having but their extensive experience in car manufacture has led to them being renowned for turbocharging, safety, environmental consideration and more importantly significant advancements in ergonomics.

Today we have news that the Swedish company have unveiled their new Android-based Infotainment system IQon at the Geneva Motor Show. It may not be the first to produce such a system but the IQon platform from Saab offers more than just the usual features you would expect from an in-car infotainment system.

As 4WheelsNews reports in their article the IQon features entertainment and navigation which you’d expect but also includes lots more. It also has an App Store with a wide range of multi-media functions, online services and apps, more significantly it will feature sensors all over the car allowing access to over 500 signals from the inside and outside the vehicle.

These signals measure barometric pressure, temperature (inside and outside), engine torque and speed as well as speed of the car, steering wheel angle and much more. Saab’s Johan Formgren says ‘there are no limits to the potential’ of Saab’s IQon.

More details are available at 4WheelsNews or you can check out the Saab Newsroom. Also check out the video below to see the IQon system in action. What do you think of Saab’s Infotainment system? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
