A few weeks ago we announced that Acer had just unveiled its updated range of Aspire TimelineX notebooks, which as we mentioned come with USB 3.0 ports and a choice of Core i3 and Core i5 processors. Now it appears that Gateway Incorporated – a subsidiary of Acer Inc. – has followed in Acer’s footsteps, by announcing their updated NV and ID series notebooks.

As Dana Wollman at engadget.com notes, the updated models – which now come with USB 3.0 ports and a choice of Sandy Bridge processors – include the 14-inch ID47 series and the 15.6-inch NV series. It’s not just the notebooks’ specs that have received an update either, as Gateway has also revamped their designs. The NV series now has a chiclet keyboard, and the ID series’ trackpad is now 20% larger.

All models run on the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system and come with a 1.3-megapixel webcam and a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. The NV is said to provide up to four hours battery life, while the ID47 series’ non-removable battery promises up to 8 hours use. Canadians will get additional options, including NVIDIA Optimus on select models and a 15.6-inch version of the ID.

Both the ID and NV series feature quick-use hot keys, which provide users with instant access to their social networks on website such as YouTube, Facebook and Flickr. The Gateway ID47H02u model – which weighs in at 4.6 pounds – is powered by a 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5-2410M processor, and comes with 4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000, digital media card reader and a 500GB 5400rpm SATA hard drive.

It also comes with an 8X DVD-SuperMulti double-layer drive, Dolby Home Theater v4 Audio Enhancement, an HDMI port and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n). Meanwhile, the ID47H03h comes with a 750GB SATA hard drive, a 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5-2410M processor, NVIDIA GeForce Optimus GT 540M graphics with 1GB of video memory, Bluetooth 3.0 and a digital media card reader.

The ID57H03h model comes with 8GB DDR3 RAM, an 8X DVD-SuperMulti double-layer drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and NIVIDIA GeForce Optimus GT 540M Graphics with 2GB of video memory. The Gateway NV55S05u on the other hand is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core AMD A8-3500M processor, an AMD A60M Fusion chipset, 6GB DDR3 RAM, a 640GB SATA hard drive and AMD Radeon HD 6620G graphics.

Finally, the NV57H05h is powered by a 2.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i3-2310M processor and comes with an Intel HM65 Express chipset, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000, a dedicated numeric keypad, high-definition stereo speakers and a 640GB SATA hard drive. You can read more about the specs, pricing and availability of these models over on the engadget.com website.

Would you buy any of the aforementioned notebooks?
