There’s been a huge debate running for a while now in regards to stand alone sat-nav devices, as more and more consumers are opting to use map apps on their smartphones. However, this will still not deter the big GPS makers from bringing out new models, and the latest 2013 Garmin nüvi GPS line-up is proof that there is no slowdown. Garmin don’t seem to be put off, and if you don’t believe us then maybe the 16 new models will help persuade you?

The 16 new Garmin nüvi GPS devices are spread over three series’s, the Essential, Advanced and Prestige. The ESSENTIAL Series consist of the 42 and 52 with 8 models in the range and has the most basic of features. However, they still offer more than enough to get you where you need to go, such as a bright display, driver-friendly features, points of interest and two display sizes, 4.3 inches and 5 inches.

The ADVANCED series has three versions, the 2497, 2597 and the 2797, with a total of 7 models in the range. There are three size variants, 4.3 inches, 5 inches and the larger 7 inches, which certainly comes in handy. The Advanced Series from the Garmin nüvi range does offer intuitive guidance, traffic alerts, voice recognition, and also directions spoken to you with a more life-like voice system.

Finally there’s the top of the range PRESTIGE series, which consist of just one model, the 3597. This version comes in the one size, 5 inches, but is packed with some of the best GPS technology. There’s not only voice activated navigation, but also all of the features from above and also lifetime maps for North America, HD Digital traffic, and the ability to link the nüvi 3597LMTHD to your smartphone.

For more details about each model and 2013 Garmin nüvi GPS line-up pricing then please visit their official website.

Garmin has not had a very nice couple of days due to its Nuvi recall over overheating issues, but that has not stopped them announcing the Edge 800 GPS for cyclists. The device comes with a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, which not only uses BaseCamp but BirdsEye satellite imagery as well.

Garmin knows that keeping a GPS signal is very important, so has incorporated HotFix technology into the design. The release date will be some time in October and will cost from $449 – $649, the price difference is due to a choice of different bundles.

The new Garmin Edge 800 comes with a host of cool support features such as: cadence sensors, heart rate monitors and a range of other ANT+ devices. Donald Melanson from Engadget tells us that early reviews are good for the new GPS device, but the true test comes once it comes to market.

Garmin looks as though they will back the Touchscreen Edge 800 heavily, you will know just what I mean once you read their preview of the device. Visit the Garmin website now for extensive details.
